i would like to ask tat izit a lvl is a worldwide recognized exam?? if i take a lvl... can it be a PASSPORT for me 2 go 2 wherever university that i want?? even US???

US is matriculation...

A-level is an entrance examination for university in UK. But it is also well accepted by other university worldwide.

So far, I don't see any of my Alvl friends going to US universities. Most of them going to all Commonwealth countries (except Canada)

that's probably because they wanted to go to commonwealth countries, so they took up a-levels. a couple of my friends end up in the US with a-levels. it's accepted in most universities there.

havard for one accepts a-levels from msia, but obviously people enrolling to harvard are top of the line, no questions asked.



but IMHO, a-levels is ur best bet, as it is one of the most widely accepted university-entry examination in the world. but i wouldnt say EVERY university.

Perhaps you should plan forward and then work backwards towards the end in mind. Now, this may appear to be an egg and chicken scenario, as most of us are uncertain where our interest lies after SPM.

While any form of education is never really 'wasted', most of us would like to work out the most efficient route to achieve our targetted education ..efficiency in terms of time and money.

As the Uni entrance qualifications are generally country specific, it is best if you can determine which country you want to go to for your further education.

A levels is the most widely accepted pre-u qualification in commonwealth countries. Of couse, it is also be used in countries like Australia and USA.

HOWEVER.....

A shorter and cheaper route to Australia is be via SAM, MUFY or equivalent., which is a 1 year , which A levels is 1.5 yrs and generally costs more.

As for USA, if one clears SATS, one can even enter a US uni after SPM. Any A level qualification may at best gain you some exemption for some credit transfers...not so efficient in terms of cost and time vs someone who had not done the A levels in the first place.

If Im not mistaken, even form six is accepted worldwide.

yes...STPM is treated to be the equivalent of A levels for purpose of gaining entry into the Uni , at least in S'pore and UK

Not entirely true, MUFY costs you about 20k, with that money you can do A-levels. Similarly, SAM and AUSMAT is as expensive as A-levels in certain colleges.

A-levels or any other pre-u program makes you a stronger candidate if you are applying to top schools in the US. You'll have 12 years of education as opposed to just 11.

You are right. The fees differs from college to college. eg doing Sam is more costly in Taylors than say Inti. My observations seems to suggest though, that within the same instituition offering say all diiff pre-u courses, the australian ones are generally cheaper than their A levels programme. As I remember, it applies in Taylors, Sunway and Inti.

Well, everyone has their own opinion. So you gotta make your own decision!!!
I did SAM and now I'm in UK studying my degree. It's one of the fastest way to graduate!

No....one can do A-levels/STPM/SAM/CPU or whatever to go to the States. In addition to that, one must take the SATs if the institutions require them.

Not really. If you really look at the ranking and the history, melbourne Uni is the top. Both unis are top in Australia but Melbourne ranks higher than ANU in world ranking.

It's not a matter of easy to enter or not. Australian universities have a certain quota for Overseas students and these are quickly filled up by students from Malaysian, Singaporean, Hong Kong and Indonesia. Furthermore, outside Australia, Malaysia has a strong pre-U entrance level (SAM, etc etc) than other countries in these region.

You hardly see non-Asians taking up the Overseas students quota because most of them would have good universities of their own that they don't have to go overseas to further their studies.

easy to score usually means easier to study, which would mean everybody's taking it and eventually more people applying universities using that qualification, where in the end u'll be competing with more people who chances are probably better than u, if not worse.

If you want to come down to KL, Sunway and Taylor's are not everything.
