that's probably because they wanted to go to commonwealth countries, so they took up a-levels. a couple of my friends end up in the US with a-levels. it's accepted in most universities there.
havard for one accepts a-levels from msia, but obviously people enrolling to harvard are top of the line, no questions asked.
but IMHO, a-levels is ur best bet, as it is one of the most widely accepted university-entry examination in the world. but i wouldnt say EVERY university.
a lvl.... passport?
