just came back from perhentian and back straight to work .anyway,finally got my open water licence.so excited!

thou i got some blister and cuts from stupid fins and got some scratches from coral,everything was great!

Good to hear. Sucks coming back to work right? LOL~
should try socks with those fins to prevent blisters.

Nah, u don't need a group to do aow. U can do it alone too but living might be more expensive with places charging surcharges.
In AOW, there is a few questions like "why do you want to go deeper?" And "what is your purpose?" I am not judging and putting you down but just hope it is the correct reason for your safety.

If you think it is your reasons are correct than I would say go do it. There r cheap dorms in perhentian so u could do it there if u r worried of accomodation. 

I just go and have a look,excited about diving and started to plan what to buy next ad.

A bit weird that you only heard of rainbow runners. IMO, people go there mainly for the underwater camera accessories.

Check the first page 2nd post for a not-so-complete list of dive shops, rough location and what they usually carry. Most people will start with scubatex.

ok i will..my schedule's always last minute and really tight at the moment,very hard to find replacements for my shift...so on 2nd thought,maybe its a bit hard for me to join u guys..

i just found out about MIDE on its last day, and i was working that day.dammit man.never knew they had an expo for diving.

and my diver friend once told me,OW divers are like snorkelers with air tanks.lol

I've seen very experienced OWD which is a better diver than some AOW.

I've heard of new OW dive better than some AOW.. Never seen one before cos i no bring mirror UW 

I do not recommend that...

even if you are good or so-called born to be diver, it makes senses to have more dive experience before moving up the ladder...

just my 2 cents.

no point rushing through the certifications... find this rather dangerous in most cases when the diver is not well-prepared and certified (depending on who the dive instructor is teaching you and his level of 'leniency')

I know of a friend who did OW straight to DM. One day we were casually talking about dive equipments and he told me "dive comp not important wan la, so expensive no need to buy". 

There are plenty who do that. For me i think if your comfortable with your open water and want to move on to advance than might as well go ahead as for me advance is just a "term" and does not mean anything.
I mean if your an OW only you could dive to 25m too and do those things you do during AOW, with enough dive your buoyancy would be better, anyone could dive around a sunk ship/boat, and compass is the same as on land.

Important is the mindset to dive safe and within limits.

p/s: no1 wants people to go get their license and stop diving after that. Thats y i always suggest DSD first to know if you really like it and would want to continue with it.

not legally, i mean do-able. its not that difficult right? just descend deeper a little following your DM/instructor.

I did my AOW right after OW. My primary reason was economical: many dives incurred an "adventure dive" fee, so I might as well top up and a bit more for the certification.

Reflecting back, I think it's a good decision. I was comfortable in similar waters, keen to learn, and my dives were closely supervised by an instructor in a small group of 2 (instead of joining the bigger groups).

Nahh.. don't really have to log 50 dives for TEC.

it should be from liquivision..still an upstream project,awaiting completion and validation of the new algorithm,in a few years' time.

deep, wreck, night ... OW can do le ... depends on the DM, we were @ tioman and 1st place we went was Renggis for DM to test power, seeing everyone is good enough we went deep the next dive ...

it's all about discipline ... you behave, follow instructions and you will be good, you don't all hell will break loose ... tapi cakap betul hor deep dive and drift dive memang sedap

haha i think at OW's allowable depth dive tables are sufficient la... and also i'd like to put myself in relative deficiency to keep myself on my toes..need to 'feel' the tables, if you know what i mean. that way i can appreciate a dive comp when i get one. not to mention i haven't fully understood the concept of the RGBM.

there's RGBM, DSAT, Bulhmann, VPM. Don't tell me you wanna master all then only get a dive comp?

RRP is RM1090; willing to let go for half the prize; someone bought too small for me; and don't want it to go to waste.  It's a bright color too, sth you don't find in normal dive shops.
