QUOTE(plumberly @ Jun 23 2013, 09:20 AM) Got some money available after the completion of Sukuk 1Malaysia. With the very high personal loans at BR, MBSM etc, (see earlier thread on this), I am now thinking twice whether I should put this sukuk money in BR. Best 12 months rate is 3.6% at Affin (exclude BR). Any better rate from other banks? I don't like like the combo (saving , investment plan etc). Many thanks. UOB has 3.68% until end of June for 12 months FD. I think min is 10k (not too sure on this min amount). Update: Confirm minimum amt is 10k. This post has been edited by bbgoat: Jun 25 2013, 07:16 PM

QUOTE(Human Nature @ Jun 28 2013, 04:16 PM) Just back from my FD trip! UOB insisted to have fresh fund for the promo. The most, they can only accept 50% of the fund. So I inquired on the banker's cheque fee. The staff said it is RM2.15. So I told her about the RM0.15 and its condition. Even the manager is not aware it. RM2.15 has always been their practice. Nevertheless, she said she will give me RM0.15 for this time, haha, but being a pain, I said I will be insisting for the RM0.15 in future too so she better check with the HQ next time. I paid RM0.15 only for 4 cheques Then went to OCBC for 3.70% 12 months. Dealing with the officer was pleasant but got slightly mad with the staff that is issuing the cert. He kept entertaining other customers who came later and put my documents aside. After 20 mins of waiting and observing, I said I would like to speak to the manager, then only settle In Penang, I have been getting the banker's checque at RM 0.15. As to the FD, either I add RM10k into the current matured FD to get UOB's new FD promotion rate or I issue another bank's cheque and place a new FD to get the current FD rate (fund of matured FD transfer to the other bank).

Just back from BR high tea. About 100 people invited. Mainly uncles and aunties. Door gift given.
BR presentation also deals with PIDM protection issue and claimed that they are under Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Domestic Trade supervision etc.
Lucky draw 10 prizes, did not get any. Overall quite OK. People comparing BR with other banks and said at least we get gifts and invitations.

QUOTE(BoomChaCha @ Jul 1 2013, 12:48 AM) Have you done many times like this just to add some money to renew your FD? No lah, if have extra money at hand, then do that. If not, withdraw then issue another bank's cheque to place new FD. But UOB probably do not like the second method.

QUOTE(BoomChaCha @ Jul 1 2013, 12:51 AM) Did Bank Rakyat send you an invitation card for this high tea? Or they called you? How was the food? Yes, they send the card and called to confirm with me. Food wise, as number of people limited, choices so so. Taste as normal hotel buffet. But seems to be topping up as soon as people finished the plate of food. Oh, ya. The door gift is just 6 piece cutlery set. This post has been edited by bbgoat: Jul 1 2013, 09:06 AM

QUOTE(BoomChaCha @ Jul 1 2013, 06:21 PM) As to the FD, either I add RM10k into the current matured FD to get UOB's new FD promotion rate or I issue another bank's cheque and place a new FD to get the current FD rate (fund of matured FD transfer to the other bank).I am very surprised you can add RM 10 to your current matured FD and convert it to a new FD at promotion rate.. Last time I asked UOB if I withdraw cash from matured FD, and add some new fund to it, and then to convert two funds (cash from matured FD and new fund) to a new FD at promotion rate on the same day, but they said cannot. Note add RM10k, not RM 10 ! UOB FD promotion stated fresh fund and minimum 10k required. If customer withdraw the fund and deposit min. 10k using another cheque, by right should be OK In fact for the first time that I did it, the counter lady advised me why not I deposit min 10k in addition to the original FD so that there is no need to withdraw the fund and issue new cheque (another bank) to place the new FD. I did proceed with the RENTAS and then use another bank's cheque to place the FD (lower than the original amount). Then for other times I added 10k to the original FD to enjoy the new rate (without RENTAS and issue new cheque). I even withdraw cash for the old FD's interest ! I think it is a win win situation for bank and customer. This post has been edited by bbgoat: Jul 1 2013, 08:07 PM

QUOTE(Human Nature @ Jul 1 2013, 08:36 PM) It will make our life easier if they accept minimum fresh fund + matured FD with interest for new promos You can withdraw the interest for makan makan if you want to ! In fact the lady asked me what I want to do with the interest, so I just withdraw the interest and placed the new FD with RM10k on top of the old FD's principal amount.

QUOTE(BoomChaCha @ Jul 1 2013, 08:28 PM) Oh..ooh.. ha..ha.. I am sorry, I missed a k...I think I need to zoom the text on my monitor.. Ok.. so we need to add additional minimum FD fresh requirement RM 10K (UOB) to convert the matured FD to new FD promo. It is a very straight forward and smart method but provided if extra RM 10K is available. All members must read this technique from bbgoat I was wondering can we do the same to OCBC FD? Thank you so much for sharing... As mentioned earlier, for the first time, I did withdraw the money, RENTAS to another bank and issued cheque from the other bank to place the FD. This method has been mentioned by various members before. The bank should accept this method as well. Though they probably do not like this method, I think.

QUOTE(HJebat @ Jul 26 2013, 07:58 AM) Yea, for 50K I can get either 4.01% or 4.11% for 12-month tenure. Depends on branch discretion. Yes, as you build up your deposit, you can ask for higher rates. Initial first time deposit of 50k can get to 4.06% (in Penang or other places ?). I got 4.2% with later deposit of slightly higher than 50k.

QUOTE(HJebat @ Jul 26 2013, 07:53 AM) You can get 4.25% rate by using 50K capital? Out of curiosity, do you have any other account or business venture with BR, before the placement of your 4.25% rate FD? Good question. He must have some "secret recipe" if not Kedah branch is in need of cash to lend out (just joking).

QUOTE(pinpinmiao @ Jul 26 2013, 10:56 AM) There is no secret recipe lah yeah it was a fast deal, the bank manager flipped some papers when i asked for 4.3% then it came down to 4.23% and i mentioned i got more funds to move over if i get a good rate and finally i got 4.25% Surprised to hear that. 4.01 to 4.06% the branch manager can approve, to 4.11% the northern district manager need to approve. Beyond that the HQ need to approve. That is what Penang BR told me. It took me like few hours to get the 4.2% approved as they need to contact KL for that. The last time I tried to get beyond 4.2%, the branch told me (hrs later) they tried 4.25% but KL did not approve (that was what they said, true or not, not sure). They even show me people deposit 500k (with prior history) but only get 4.2%.

QUOTE(HJebat @ Jul 26 2013, 10:07 AM) I have a total of 6 figure amount in BR's FD, but no matter how I nego also of no use. Everytime I try to get an extra %, they rejected it straightaway. The most they offered is an extra 0.10%. Your branch in Penang is more accomodating. Maybe that particular branch has a quota to fill. As your 6 figure number gets higher, ask again! They probably do not want to contact KL/HQ beyond the 4.11%.
