QUOTE(hanishoney @ May 16 2016, 03:10 PM) Diono is not importing their USA carseats here because they are expecting Malaysia to adopt European standards in 2019. If you want Diono Radian carseats, you'll have to import directly from USA. Can order online, from lazada or other online websites. No wonder i cannot find Diono anywhere in Malaysia and Singapore.By the way, does anyone of you use a rear baby mirror in the car? |

QUOTE(hanishoney @ May 17 2016, 02:55 PM) I used one with my firstborn when he was a baby, but I didn't bother with my second child. I find that I prefer to focus on the road when I'm driving and stop frequently to check my baby when I'm driving alone, and if I'm not the one driving, I just use my handphone selfie camera to take pictures of my baby to check. Thanks for your reply.I just bought a Diono radian r120 from US Ebay for S$400+. Quite satisfied with the car seat so i bought another one from US Ebay again. Even though I have yet to installed it in my car due to i haven't bring back to Malaysia but i believe it shouldn't be an issue. Car info: Honda City 2015 with 3 lap-shoulder seat belts (ELR) at the rear My plan: 1) Diono Radian r120 for 2.5 year old daughter - install behind the passenger seat and rear facing - use car seat belts instead of latch to save width space - use locking clip due to ELR car seat belts - use Diono Angle Adjuster to have more leg room for front seats - secure top tether at the bottom of the front seat tracks using their connector strap 2) Diono Radian r120 for 7 months daughter - install in the middle rear seats and rear facing - use car seat belts instead of latch to save width space - use locking clip due to ELR car seat belts - secure top tether at the bottom of the front seat tracks using their connector strap The main reason i bought Diono radian car seats is due to the narrow width. Normally my rear seat is always occupied with an adult therefore i couldnt fit the 2nd child car seat hence my 7 month daughter was always carried by hand. I understand the high risk but too bad my wife and in-laws think it is a hassle. After buying this, i hope my wife or my in-laws have no excuse of not letting my young daughter sitting child car seat. This post has been edited by lil_flank: May 26 2016, 10:03 AM |

QUOTE(hanishoney @ Jul 11 2016, 04:44 PM) Babies should NOT be left in the carseat for longer than 90 minutes each time, BECAUSE the carseat is not lying flat. Babies should lie flat most of the time. However, lying flat in the car is NOT safe if there is a car accident, because the 45 degree angle as per your carseat's indicator, protects your baby's entire spine in a car accident, like a rocking "cradle when the bough breaks" in the song rockabye baby song. hanishoney can really be our Malaysia CarSeatLady or CarSeatGuy So just tell your auntie that baby will most often be in his crib/floor/cot lying flat at home, not in the car. BUT this angle is necessary in the car. If you have to drive for more than 90 minutes with your baby, break the journey up so that baby gets out of the carseat for half an hour or so every 90 minutes. Once your baby has head control, you can extend his/her time in the carseat to two to four hours, but every two-four hours, still need to let out to stretch and move about. In fact, adults should also get up/out and stretch/walk around every two/three hours to extend lifespan. More info: http://www.babycentre.co.uk/x554834/is-it-...in-his-car-seat You can also tell your auntie that baby must NOT be fed lying flat. Babies also need the 45 degree angle for feeding to make sure that if they vomit (reflux is very normal for babies), they don't accidentally swallow back their vomit and choke. Time for a little review of my Diono Radian R120 car seats after using for a month. Details: -Car Seat Models: Diono Radian R120 (2x) -Car: Honda City 2015 -Car installation position: Side and middle of car rear seats (rear-facing position) -Usage: Side rear seats is for my 2.5 year old toddler and middle rear seats is for my 9 month baby -Using ELR belts and locking clip for both child car seats instead of Latch to save width space -Top Tether is clipped on the Diono Tether strap for both child car seats -Bought Diono angle adjuster and installed it at the child car seat (side rear seats). This is to free up some space of the front passenger seat. -Bought and installed two Diono Dry Seat Protectors to minimize any accidents (pee, vomit etc) Review: The child car seat is really narrow. After installing two child seats rear facing at the back, an adult can still sit at the back comfortably. It uses full steel frame so it is quite safe but it is heavy. This car seat can rear-facing till 20.5kg or 112cm, forward-facing till 36kg, booster mode till 54kg or 144cm. It has a chest clip to ensures the child stays safely and correctly positioned within their harness. The car seat can easily be folded if not in use. It is also crash test certified. However i also find some cons. This car seat has very few paddings due to it is narrow and there is almost no head protection. I should have bought the Diono Radian RXT for the little extra head protection. However the Diono Radian RXT also have some cons. Some say the child's shoulder may hit the head wing when they grow older and the head wing may interfere with the car seat belt in booster mode. The Diono Radian R120/RXT is very tall so rear-facing can take up alot of space therefore i bought the Diono Angle Adjuster. |

QUOTE(MeToo @ Aug 4 2016, 06:59 PM) Luckily mine is not a fat baby... I switched my daughter from front facing to rear facing coz change other car seats brands. Initially she cried, but my wife sat behind to accompany her and brought some plush toys and books for her. Currently she doesnt make a fuss even without anyone sitting behind. I even bought a used britax rear mirror to monitor whether she got bully her young sis or not, lol..Anyway we went for rear until she started complaining due to the lack of view... so we shifted to forward facing when she was around 12~18 months. QUOTE(Crow79 @ Aug 21 2016, 12:46 AM) Hi guys, hope this post is appropriate here.... Seems like you have done some homework Been looking for a good car seat, and considering the Graco 4Ever. I read in their manual that they suggest ISOFIX/LATCH until 40 pounds only, beyond which they recommend seat belt installation. Tried both my cars (Peugeot 407 2010, Ford Fiesta 2013) rear seats seem to have ELR type belts (can't lock manually). Should I get locking clips or look for other car seats with built in lock - offs? Thanks in advance! Most people in Malaysia install their car seat incorrectly due to not reading the handling manual and identifying the type of seat belt retractor Most of our cars in Malaysia comes with an ELR type belts unlike in the US which uses ALR type belts. Most of the major US child car seat manufacturer such as Graco, Diono etc. cater for ALR type belts however they do include a locking clip. For those planning to secure child car seat with ELR type belts: 1st Method: Buy and use child car seat that have built-in lock-offs Pros: -Not difficult to install child car seat -Save width space compare to securing using Latch/ISOFIX 2nd Method: Use locking clip/lock-off clips for those child car seat that does not come with built-in lock-offs (Please check the child car seat manual 1st) Pros: -Save width space compare to securing using Latch/ISOFIX Cons: -Quite difficult to install locking clip For those planning to secure child car seat with Lap belts: - You do not need to use locking clip/lock-off clips Pros: -Not difficult to install child car seat -Save width space compare to securing using Latch/ISOFIX For those planning to secure child car seat with Latch/ISOFIX: - You do not need to use locking clip/lock-off clips Pros: -Very easy to install child car seat Cons: -Weight limitation from child car seat and car anchor points -Use more width space compared to using car seat belts -No car anchor points in the middle rear seat for most cars Graco 4ever is a very good child car seat due to it can cater for 4lbs to 120lbs and have good side impact protection. However do take into consideration: 1) It is not cheap (around RM1800) 2) Child car seat cannot be used again if involve in car accident 3) Width of child car seat is abit wide 4) Locking clip is included for Graco 4ever. For ELR type belts, it may be a abit tedious to install the child car seat and locking clip. So what is your needs and top priority? Eg. Easy to install/Easy to move from car to car/narrow width/safest car seat/good side imapact protection/max weight for rear facing/All-in-1/budget car seat With these information, it would be easier to recommend you |

QUOTE(Crow79 @ Aug 21 2016, 06:09 PM) Thanks for the reply! My priority were narrow width and max weight of rear facing. So I bought two Diono Radian R120 and installed in my Honda City 2014 (Rear middle and rear left seat). I can still fit an adult at the rear seat. For your information, Diono Radian R120 does not come with built-in lock-offs so i am currently using the locking clip that comes with it. Actually installing the locking clip is not that hard. It is just abit tedious compare to using Latch/ISOFIX and child car seat with built-in lock offs.Well, for me, the main concern is safety with good crash test ratings (including side impact protection). Extended rear facing would be a plus point. In terms of budget, less than 2K would be okay. The 4Ever sounds like the perfect seat for me, but I'm just a bit worried about installing the locking clip wrong. Have you had any experience with locking clips and are they reliable? This would be my second car seat. My kid's (8 month old) been riding around in a Recaro Performance Ride which I'm very happy with (and I think has a built in seat belt lock - off for front facing). The only thing stopping me from just buying another is that whole fiasco with the top tether recall. Thanks in advance! Really appreciate all the advice I can get How to install Locking Clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7YTlwh3Mos Normally I will leave on the locking clip on the car seat belt if i temporary take out the child car seat. Whether the locking clip is reliable or not, I think it should be safe if we are using the locking clip that is included by the child car seat and it is stated in the Manual. Most important is after installing the child car seat, it cannot move more than 1 inch front to back and side to side. Graco 4ever is a very good and safe car seat. It can rear face till 40lbs. Rear facing is 5 times safer compare to forward facing. But like i mention, child car seat cannot use again if involve in any car accident. So even if this car seat can last 10 years, can we be sure not to involve in any car accidents for 10 years? So some people prefer to buy Convertible Car Seat instead of All-in-1 car seat due to it is cheaper. Try to imagine someone just bought the Graco 4ever and he got involve in a car accident. He need to throw away this expensive child car seat and buy another expensive Graco 4ever. So buying a convertible car seat and backless booster seat would seem like a better option. You may consider Graco Extend2Fit™ Convertible Car Seat as it can rear face till 50lbs. It have most of the features that Graco 4ever have. But if the price of the Graco Extend2Fit is almost the same as Graco 4ever, I think it is better to buy Graco 4ever Which child car seat are you referring to regarding the top tether recall? Graco 4ever or Recaro Performance ride? If you are referring to Graco 4ever, do check which manufacturing date is affected. Normally Graco child car seats will stated the manufacturing date on the car seats. I think it should be safe if your Graco child car seat's manufacturing date is not within the recall affected date. QUOTE(Crow79 @ Aug 22 2016, 06:17 PM) Thanks for the video link! Feel a bit more confident using locking clips now. The top tether recall I was referring to was the Recaro Performance Ride You are welcome! I saw the Graco 4Ever was sold for Rm1790 in the recent Baby Expo in Midvalley.http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/cars/st...ride-child-seat Thanks again for the info. Think I will go for the 4Ever after all (bottom line, wife likes it! |

QUOTE(titan @ Dec 15 2016, 02:44 PM) thank you! will check them out. was worried i couldnt find the right car seat on time. will survey and need to get them by this wkend. Chicco Nextfit Zip seems like a good choice after reading some reviews. One thing i like is that it has built-in lock offs which is quite convenient for cars that dont have isofix. Most of our cars in Malaysia is not ALR seat belts hence require built-in lock offs on child car seats or require an additional part which is the locking clip to secure. Using a locking clip to secure is quite tedious. I believe u r planning to put it at your rear car seat. Safest position is the rear center seat. Check wat type of seat belt your car is using (ELR or ALR). Also measure the estimated allowable space coz this child car seat is quite big. Good luck in finding a suitable child car seat. I am also going to Singapore next week with my wife and 2 toddlers. |

QUOTE(titan @ Dec 16 2016, 04:29 PM) i believe that my car has no ISOFIX.. so seat belts would be only option? yes? If your car dont have ISOFIX, then seat belt would be your only option. Securing using the seat belt also have some advantages compare to ISOFIX:yup. agreed. will be bringing my daughter to let her try it out. totally agree with you on the ALR seat belts. i am actually planning to secure the car seat at the rear passenger side as the middle seat is raised and curvy. assume not as safe? thank you. i really hope i can get it done by Sunday. have a good break in Spore to you. 1) Child car seat can use on most cars (seat belt/ISOFIX) 2) ISOFIX uses more unnecessary width space than securing using car seat belt 3) Most car dont have ISOFIX in the rear middle seats. 4) ISOFIX have weight limitation so u must check the ISOFIX weight limitation of your car and the child car seat. Car seat belt's weight limitation depends on your child car seat. But ISOFIX is certainly easier to secure. Securing the child car seat at the rear middle seat is the safest. The side impact can be greatly reduced. Even though your car's middle seat is raised and curvy, it should be fine as long your child car seat cannot move more than 1 inch from side to side, front to back. You need to check what type of car seat belt your car have (3 point ELR/3 point ALR/lap belt). Then check whether the child car seat u intended to purchase can use it. QUOTE(braindeath @ Jun 29 2017, 09:27 AM) 1) Cruze Most cars in the US have Automatic Locking Retractor (ALR) car seat belts. Therefore most US brand child car seat including Graco do not have 'lock-offs'. Most cars in Malaysia are using Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR). Therefore if u are securing a US brand child car seat (without lock-offs) onto a car with ELR belts, u are required to use a 'locking clip' and it is abit tedious. However most US brand child car seats including Graco do provide locking clip. Do check the child car seat manual for proper installations.2) doesn't matter, prefer isofix but iinm cruze have no isofix n graco only able to use seat belt. 3) so, far my child and wife sit at the back n no planning on 2nd child yet. 4) best performance within my budget, done lil bit of research and ukreview stated graco milestone as no 1 U also better check if your car are using ALR/ELR belt system on the rear seats even though your car is an US brand. Below are some other tips: 1) Always rear facing the child car seat as long as possible. This is because rear facing is 5x safer than forward facing. However do take note of the weight limitation and height of rear facing. 2) All child car seat have a expiry date including the belt harness. 3) It is highly advisable to replace the child car seat if your car get into any accidents. Therefore buying a All-in-1 child car seat is abit risky coz is more expensive to replace. 4) Car Seat belt have higher weight limitations than ISOFIX/latches. 5) Steel frame on child car seat are safer but more heavier. 6) Always read all the pages of the child car seat manual for proper installations. This is becoz many people secure the child car seat improperly. Graco is indeed a good product. I recommend my friend to buy the Graco extend2fit. The only disadvantage for Graco is u are required to use the Locking clip if u are using ELR belts. Graco's safety is also very good. Just abit bulky and expensive in Malaysia. I once saw Graco 4ever sold in baby fair in Mid valley for around Rm1800. This post has been edited by lil_flank: Jun 29 2017, 10:16 AM |

I saw this child car seat sold in Midvalley babyfair around Rm1800.2. Preferably ISOFIX for convenient purpose 3. Currently not sure but my wife is due end of year so we are surveying now 4. Currently i have saw Recaro Citylife, Easywalker Mini Buggy XL and SweetCherry SCR15 (heavy as hell, so it is out) Priorities would be ALL-IN-ONE. Infant Carrier, Stroller and Car Seat |
