honda jazz..
currently using 1 ferrari car seat for group 2-3 (up to 12 years old) and 1 halford elite classic baby carrier

and currently aiming Halford Zeus XT Convertible but not sure can fit in or not.. hmm.gif
*
There is a good news and a bad news.

Good news is Honda Jazz is able to put 3 child car seats across.

Bad news is u may need to change your current child car seats to those narrow child car seats. And these narrow child car seats are not commonly sold in Malaysia like my Diono radian series.

I bought mine from Ebay US. It was shipped from US to SG. Then i drove my car to SG to get it.

Recently Amazon Prime SG had sold these diono car seats at a cheaper price but it has sold out.

I bought three of my child seat from this seller. Currently this child car seat is having a promotion. Shipping to MY is more expensive by almost twice than SG. Ebay calculated three car seats shipped to Peninsular Malaysia would required US$874.22

I bought gb pockit plus . I might get joiee gem for the combo . but still need recommendation for the carseat . all in one.
*
Your budget of Rm700 for all in one car seat is abit low. Why not u increase your budget for your child car seat since u already can afford GB pockit plus?

Safety: child car seat > stroller
Tats y I rather spent more money on a good child car seat than a stroller coz too many idiots on the road these days.

Joiee gem combo is an infant child car seat which only can last for a few months to 1 year. Do check out promotion for Chicco Nextfit child car seat in Chicco Malaysia facebook. I think last time was selling around Rm900+. My sister-in-law bought the Chicco Nextfit Zip version for Rm1100 during their warehouse sales this year.

I recently found good review on budget models, they also won’t come with all of the shiny and fancy things that other people have – like perhaps it won’t have a leather handle or a full-blown toy bar. Instead, these baby safety seats will run almost half of the price of some of the others. But you won’t be compromising on quality. They have chosen these models because, despite the low prices, they still comply with the required safety standards and have received the best assessment of consumers. Your child won’t be any less safe if a cheaper infant car seat, nor will you have to worry about any of the levels in an affordable convertible seat.
*
Almost all the budget child car seat mentioned in the website are not sold here. Most of the budget child car seats sold here do not have online review.
BUT having your child sitting in a child car seat that complys with a safety standard and installing it correctly is better than not sitting one.

Hi all, I'm looking for a car seat for my 18 mo daughter and have my eye on graco. Can anyone tell me what is the difference between 4ever vs 4ever extend2fit? Is it okay to be used in Mitsubishi ASX? And where in KL city can I find one selling?
*
1st, list out all the seat belt type (3 point ELR, 3 point ALR or lap belt) and ISOFIX available in your car.
2nd, determine where you wana install your child car seat (rear center, rear side, etc) and what type of method you planning to secure your child car seat (ISOFIX or seat belt)

Graco 4ever is a very very good and safe child car seat.
http://www.gracobaby.com/en-US/Convertible...rtible-car-seat
*Every DETAILS listed in the website is describing the feature of the child car seat. Do let me know if you are unclear of some of the feature.

Graco 4ever extend2fit is an upgrade version of Graco 4ever there it is even better.
http://www.gracobaby.com/en-US/Convertible...4-in-1-car-seat

Graco 4ever extend2fit can extend your kids legs when rear facing so your kids leg wont bent alot. The max weight limitation of rear facing for Graco 4ever is 40 lbs where else Graco 4ever extend2fit can go up to 50lbs. This makes it more safe coz your kids can sit in rear facing mode longer. Rear face is 5x safer than Forward facing.

I have seen a few Graco sold in Aeon but not these models. I have seen Graco 4ever and Graco Extend2fit sold in Midvalley Baby fair a few times. I think the Graco 4ever was sold around Rm1600 to Rm1800. So far I havent seen Graco 4ever Extend2fit sold in Malaysia retails stores or baby fair. Maybe you can try to order it online:

Actually office mates collect money and ask me to choose lo. I just add 2xx only .  biggrin.gif
I get the pockit because it smallest i found which is suitable for my myvi  brows.gif
For now I bought the gem . I will stalk Chicco for now . Once sale i'll grab it . Look though too . Thanks for suggestion . They r good and can fit myvi right ?

Btw . Is sweet cherry brand good enough ?
*
I understand the convenience of GB pockit plus coz i also own one too. Nowadays, i just fold the stroller and walk into the restaurants. I dont need to worry whether will my stroller get stolen or not.
Chicco Next2fit can only use till your kid is up to 65lbs. Therefore it is only a convertible child car seat, not an All-in-1. I recommend this model due to your budget.

Sorry, i am unable to feedback Sweet Cherry coz i dont have one and very few online review about this brand coz is a local brand. They also didnt mention how long is the lifespan of this child car seat.

There are a few golden rules in child car seats:
1) Keep your child rear facing as long as possible coz rear facing is 5x times safer than forward facing. Therefore buying a higher max weight limit child car seat for rear facing is safer.

2) Every child car seat have a lifespan. Therefore manufacturers have to indicate the manufacturing date on every car seat so u can know when your child car seat will expire. This is becoz manufacturers have tested their product to ensure it can work properly even after several years of usage. All-in-one car seat have the highest lifespan which is usually 10 years. Thats why it is not wise to buy 2nd hand child car seats.

3) Child car seat cannot be used if it is involved in a car accident even it is a minor one or there is no sign of damage on the child car seat. This is becoz the child car seat cannot work properly if there are some damage on the child car seat. Thats why there is a risk buying All-in-one child car seats. In US, they can purchase child car seat insurance. Therefore it is also not recommended to purchase 2nd hand child car seats. Is it worth risking the child's life?

Most Malaysians dont bother about these rules. Their mentality is it is considered good enough that i even let my kid sit on a child car seat. So many irresponsible parents rather spend on other stuff then child car seats. Some even let the kid sit in the passenger seat even though there is an airbag in the passenger seat. I seen many cases the parents or even the sales person dont even know how to properly secure the child car seat. It is like wearing a helmet without securing the latch when riding a bike.

i agree.
most malaysian dont care.
actually a lot of people still dont know how to install a car seat properly.
already spent money on the car seat, but install it wrongly.

even if install it correctly, but wrong direction. ( for newborn MUST rear facing, at least until the baby grows too big for rear facing or 2 years old )
*
Some parents just dont have the patience to train their child to sit rear facing position.
I would like to share my experience. The first child car seat that i bought was the Mothercare Madrid. I bought this because i was given some Mothercare vouchers. This child car seat could only rear face till 9kg so I changed to forward facing for my child since she have reached around 9kg. Then I had a 2nd child so it was time to buy a 2nd child car seat. I wanted to purchase a narrow child car seat so i could fit two child car seats and one adult in my rear seats. Since then I did alot of research and gain alot of knowledge about child car seats. So i gave away my Mothercare Madrid car seat to my cousin and I bought two Diono Radian R120. I have difficulties to changed my child from forward facing to rear facing again coz she was used to forward facing. We bought soft toys and books to keep her occupied. We try to let her know that if she wants to go out, she need to sit on her rear facing child car seat. It was not easy but patience was the key. Maybe during the first few times, an adult need to accompany them.

Some parents even funnier. They so eager to switch their child to forward facing position even though the child can still sit in rear facing position doh.gif . Their reason is that the child's legs look uncomfortable. And some just wana see what their child is doing. doh.gif

Hi everyone, can assist me on finding the best value car seat for my LO. She's just 2weeks old. Looking for something that may serve her maybe for the next 3-4 years.

1) What car are u driving? - City '14 (w isofix)
2) U planning to use seat belts or isofix/latch? - either
3) Are u planning to have more than 1 child car seat at the car rear seats? - No
4) What are you priorities in sequence?
(Eg. All-in-1 type, budget, safe, convenience, light weight, narrow width, etc)
- safety - all-in-1 - budget (below 1k) - convenience
*
Your budget is abit low for All-in-1 car seat. I suggest the Chicco Nextfit which is a convertible car seat. U can purchase it around Rm900+ during their Chicco Warehouse sales.

QUOTE(quebix @ Oct 31 2017, 01:15 PM)
quick question, if money is no issue, what is the best car seat available?
*
I would suggest the Graco 4ever Extend2fit. But u need to use locking clip if u are using ELR seat belts.

QUOTE(kutitata @ Oct 31 2017, 01:50 PM)
The worst mistake is that the car seat is still loose when installed
*
Yes and many are unaware of it. I think the worst is letting your child sitting the front passenger seat with or without the child car seat that has an airbag. Stupidity to the MAX!

hey , i m planning to install Chicco NextFit in my Honda City 2015 and fetch 2 ladies on the rear seat. both about 50kg..do u think its possible ?
*
There is no problem if the Chicco NextFit is rear-facing in the center rear seat coz the ladies can put their arms on the child car seat. If it is front facing, the ladies probably need to lean forward abit coz their shoulders probably abit tight.

Tats great! The price in the retail shop and warehouse difference by alot. Last time they used to sell the Chicco Nextfit Zip. Now no more i guess. Tempting to buy the twin stroller coz seems quite cheap but got scold by my wife coz we already have two (GB pockit+ and Silvercross). Not to mention it eats up alot of space after fold.

1) What car are you driving? - vellfire
2) U planning to use seat belts or isofix/latch? - isofix/latch
3) Are u planning to have more than 1 child car seat at the car rear seats?- nope
4) What are your priorities in sequence? - safety, comfortable

currently looking at Joie every stage FX and Recaro young sport hero, however the recaro 1 only for baby starting from 9 months old, so at the moment i think Joie every stage FX is a better option.

any other recommendation? how is graco 4ever compared to joie every stage fx?
*
Wahh bro, u have upgraded your car <thumbs-up> and congratz on becoming a father soon.

Before i proceed to give some advice, please take note on some golden rules below of child car seat.
1) Rear-facing of child car seats are 5 times safer than Forward-facing. So try to buy those child car seat that have the highest rear-facing weight limitation.
2) Never put child car seats with airbag (Eg. Front passenger seats with frontal airbag). Side airbags are fine. The safest child car seat position in the car is the middle rear seats for sedan. For MPV, it is the 2nd row middle seats.
3) Highly recommended to replace your child car seat if it is involved in a car accident even it is a minor one.
4) Every child car seat have a expiry period. Child car seat manufacturers have tested the child car seats so it can work as expected before the expiry period. Therefore, there should be a manufacturing date stated on the child car seats. Sadly, some countries including Malaysia does not enforce this rule because retailers will have a hard time selling the child car seat. All-in-1 child car seat usually have a higher expiry period (eg. 10 years and above)

Buying multiple stages child car seats are usually more expensive than buying All-in-1 child car seat. But all-in-1 are a risky investment due to the 3) golden rule. All-in-1 car seats usually take up alot of space but i think u wont have that issue in Vellfire.

Graco 4ever 4-in-1 is a very good child car seat and have many good reviews. Graco Extend-2-fit is also a very good child car seat because your kids have more legroom in rear facing position but it is not an All-in-1. If u want best of both worlds, try to buy the Graco Extend-2-fit 3in1.

One thing to take note is most of our cars are Emergency Locking Retractor seat belts. Graco child car seat are mostly cater for Automatic Locking Retractor seat belts therefore they do not have built-in lock-off. Hence u need to use Locking Clip provided by Graco for cars with Emergency Locking Retractor seat belts and child car seat that do not have built-in lock-off.

wow thanks for the very details reply.
can u elaborate more on wat kind of accident is consider minor?
for the expiry date, i checked quite a few store. some r already two years in so the expiry date already decrease by two years.
kinda hard to find a freshly new 1.

ooh, i saw the extend 2 fit but if im not mistaken tht day when i c it, even tho it hv more legroom, its not as good as graco 4ever cant remember y d.
i will go check out the other 1 and c. thanks for the recommendation. gotta hv to get it by june d.
*
According to child car seat manufacturers, it is recommended to replace the child car seat if your car is involved in an car accident. This is because it might have become weakened by the impact of the accident even if it doesnt appear to be damaged and might not be as effective in the future. Tats why they have child car seat insurance in other countries. But in my opinion, if it is a slight grazed or minor knock on the car bumper, it is maybe fine but check for any cracks or white lines on the child car seat.
Yes, it is quite hard to find a freshly new one unless u buy from online oversea. I bought mine from Ebay US therefore it only expire less than 1 year.
Due to these reasons, it is not recommended to purchase 2nd hand child car seat or take used child car seats from others.

Hi All,

As this is my first time buying car seat, would like to have some opinion & recommendation from you all.

1) What car are u driving? - Old persona elegance/Honda City 2011
2) U planning to use seat belts or isofix/latch? - latch, as both car do not have isofix
3) Are u planning to have more than 1 child car seat at the car rear seats? - yes, will have 2 car seat
4) What are your priorities in sequence? Safety & budget around 700.

I saw koopers quite cheap, but I'm a bit reluctant on it since first is local made, secondly never heard of its name.
*
Hi Foxngn,

Isofix and latch is referring to the same thing. In USA, they usually called it latch. That means u are looking for a child car seat that does not require isofix feature, am i right? After installing two child car seats, do u need to squeeze in an adult at the rear seats too?

QUOTE(Foxngn @ May 8 2018, 10:10 PM)
owh, haha. I didn't know that.
yes, i looking for those that doesn't require isofix feature.

Most likely I won't squeeze another adult at rear, but can't say for sure yet.
Rear car baby seat will be seated with 2 years old toddler & a newborn baby.
*
If u are really planning to squeeze an adult comfortably at the rear, u need to get those narrow child car seats (width around 17inch). Unfortunately i havent seen any narrow child car seats sold in Malaysia. My child car seats are Diono Radian RXT and R120. These child car seats are narrow type and i purchased from Ebay US but they are not cheap. Around Rm1800 for one. Malaysia used to sell Diono Radian RXT but they no longer sell it now. Heard the price was around Rm1500+. Some of these child car seats requires alot of rear legroom but i believe your Honda City should have no problem. Therefore do consider if u really need to fit in an adult at the rear or not.

Do read post #614 which i wrote in this thread for more child car seat information.

I am sorry I am unable to advise u which child car seats to purchase because I only have experience with Diono, Graco, Britax and Chicco child car seats. These child car seats are mostly priced > Rm1000. Usually I will recommend people to get Chicco NextFit Zip during Chicco Warehouse sales (around Rm1100) but it seems like they no longer sell this model during their warehouse sales.

There are alot of brands in Malaysia. Some are well known brands worldwide and some are not. If u have notice, mostly those well known brands have alot of reviews and some even have internal crash ratings but they are sold expensively in Malaysia. But that doesn't necessarily mean that those unknown brands are unsafe.
Therefore in order for u to find the best bang of buck child car seat which is safe and fit into your budget, i suggest u to find:
1) Convertible child car seat (can rear-facing and forward facing)
2) Highest max weight for rear-facing. (>40 pounds for rear-facing is considered very good)
3) Good side impact protection
4) Crash tested according to safety standards
5) No Isofix/latch feature
