Basically, all the things that you listed down is based on personal preferences. You might like 40mm stem, I might like 50mm stem. You might like 700mm handle bar, the rest of us maybe like 900mm handle bars.

One bike to do it all. My Enduro is more of an all rounder. Town ride, off-road, jumping, lite DH-ing...
I told you, it's all down to personal preferences.

Cockpit setup:
Enduro - 785mm bars with 50mm stem
Vimana - 710mm bars with 40mm stem
Classic track - 680mm drop bars with 60 or 70mm (lupa) stem

XC bikes can ride kiara wut .. depends on what you call comfort and breakproof lo even a BMX but not sure if you come out in 1 piece or not le. well I dont see why not.
I would say dun waste time converting, just go and ride.
But if you really want, change the frame better still and replace as others fall apart if you ride rough. 2pc crank wont make it an AM build.

Save more money  change bike instead upgrade a 2x10 crank.

estimate your current bike cost:
you bike : RM1200
Deore : 1000
Reba : 1200
Brake: 200
then upgrade crank: RM700

you can get a decent full-sus or a very good hardtail

save your money on that crank la... changing crank now make not much different for u now.

XC to AM is like changing the whole bike already. focus on getting a AM frame and fork... if you talking AM

headset usually different sizes cross different bike brand and bike discipline.
so better check your frame ...

headset pressed in and usually we dont want to knock them out... it will usually hurt the cosmetic of the frame and headset usually. its always better to get new headset with new bearings. it is one thing that people usually get new together with the frame. old sell with the old frame. except for cases like you having an expensive chris king that you might want to still keep.
