Aiyo... bike only consists of few components... why so tense about it.
29 and 26ers. The only difference u got is only the chainstay length and fork and wheels. The rest are mostly the same. So... back to basic compare apple to apple. Frame... At the moment Carbon is the lightest. Depending on brand. I think Scott is one of the lightest with sub 1kg weight. Usually, a carbon and alu frame will have about 300-500gr diff. Not including those chekai brand. Fork wise... well, the weight diff is really minimal. Probably less than a hundred or 2. Price wise... also not much diff. Wheels... U can get similar weight at similar price at similar spec. ZTR is the easiest to compare. Don't talk about hubs or what not... The diff also minimum. U also can get a ZTR wheelset with hope hub for 1.3kg on 29er and as well as 26er. So... what is the argument here? 25k for a bike? Possible... why not. Coz a carbon wheelset already RM10k. Carbon frame or Ti frame can be from 5k-7k XTR or XX crankset easily 4-5k. Fork 2-3k. |

QUOTE(xecton @ Jul 17 2013, 01:40 PM) As a newbie, I feel a bit frustrated when the shop owners always borak borak with the regulars and don't want to serve me. Well, its kinda true coz the moment u leave... chances are u r not coming back...And equally frustrating and slightly offending are those shop owners who want to complete the sale at that very day, at that very visit. They'll try sense your limit, then push very hard for any slightly cheaper bikes that they have. |

QUOTE(Broadica @ Jul 17 2013, 09:01 PM) Correct answer. That is why, they try not to let you go in the first place.QUOTE(cjseng @ Jul 17 2013, 11:15 PM) For a week of bikes shopping, have short listed 2 bikes Personally I not so fancy Merida. Hence, I am biased. But both are good models. Choose the color you like. Ha! Ha!(1) scott scale 650 (26' wheel) http://www.scott-sports.com/ca/en/products...CB214E489C07E49 (2) merida big seven xt-edition (27.5' wheel) latest 2014 model with full xt group set, rockshox air rebound 100mm with remote, 11.8kg. unfortunately no link from official site due to unlaunch model merida priced 300 more compare to scott due to latest 27.5 latest model (should I go for 27.5'?). scott has stop production for 26' wheel in their performance scale category, therefore they give 15% on this model. it seems some big player has keeping their eye on 27.5' trend, if in such case we would able to see some big discount in 26' model? appreciate if sifu could provide some points that will be helpful for decision making (money down) especially for a completly newbie getting his 1st mountain bike QUOTE(prs516 @ Jul 18 2013, 12:11 AM) I'm planning to upgrade my epicon fork to fox fork. Is there any difference if i choose standard coating fox fork or kashima coat fox fork? Please advice. Of course got difference. Or else, why would there be 2 different thing?QUOTE(KTCY @ Jul 18 2013, 07:16 AM) Hello guys. I'm very very new here. In fact, the last time I rode on a bike was 10 years ago. Nowadays, Rockshock Tora is quite common on entry bikes. Merida as well using it, Scott is using it and believe many others are using it too.I had reading thru this thread (almost every pages) and google around. So I'm quite keen to get Talon 2. Unfortunately I went to my giant reseller in Penang (the one opposite sunshine square), he told me no longer have stock and next coming batch will be next year. All he have is XTC which is out of my budget of 3-3.5k So guys, just wondering should I go around and look for Talon 2 ? I understand the spec is pretty good for a beginner with Rockshox fork and etc. Please help a noob here At this level... if you fancy Talon... go ahead and look for it. At the end, it is the color you prefer. |
