Then... you would have known... at RM1500... you just choose the color you like.
QUOTE(lkoky @ Jul 24 2013, 07:06 AM)
Guys, need help in choosing my first MTB. Currently I ride road bike, cycle ard 100km during weekend; been to Sempah & Fraser Hill no problem. So now looking to try MTB.

Should I go for 26? 27.5? 29er?
Budget is <5k; but just plan to get what is enough; not building a DREAM bike!!
Plan to use the MTB in FRIM, like the trail to Canopy Walkway.

I have looked at the local brand - Exitway, it looks like they have good components like Epicon fork, Sram X0 for <4k; Is this brand a value buy?
*
26" is considered history. By 2014... you will hardly see any 26" new bike coming out.
Whether 27 or 29er...
Not many of us really tried similar bike on different type. E.g. a proper 29er Trail vs a 650B Trail. Like what Camlion mentioned... 29er is more for XC. 650B is more for trail.

Now the next question would be... Is FRIM XC or trail biggrin.gif

When I ride XC... I donno why... I like transformer. Auto transform to gay. Ha! Ha! ha!

Anyway... getting an AM bike doesn't mean you need to ride like a superstar. It just overall gives you an option.
You still can climb you still can go down.

But overall, you just gonna be more confident on the bike due to the built.
XC is fast is sleek... but it can never go near an AM bike geometry.
Yes... u still can go downhill... But you just miss the whole point.

So... if you already have 1 bike that fits for XC... go for an AM bike or towards Freeride/AM bike. This way... you will enjoy both ends.

May I know what are the top brands for MTB? Is Haibike a good brand?
*
Well, there are so many brand out there claiming they are the best.
One thing for sure, we are in Malaysia with limited resources.
It might be the best bike... but at times, choosing the right shop that can give you service is more important.

Every brand claims they are using best technology and best design. But how many can give you the service that you need... test, touch, smell, feel and etc.
Price wise, you might spend a little bit more between A & B. But it all goes back to which shop can give better advise and service.

Thanks for the info,

Been googling on how to get a suitable bike.. but still kinda blur to me..

in short and general.. how should I know if the bike fits me. im 174cm with 62kg. normal size body
*
At 174cm... u will be most comfortable with a size M or 17.5" bike.
You will still be able to ride an S but it feels short and an L but u will be tired.
Unless you got really special leg/body proportion then M is the right one for u regardless how they claim.

QUOTE(tiongman99 @ Sep 16 2013, 01:58 PM)
one shop in kelantan offer me 2k for this bike..why??how much the market price for this bike??
*
If you have not much experience in handling/maintaining a bike, it is good to make friend with your local bike shop. Buy from them, learn from them and you get extra perks and free services from them too.

Bringing a bike from let's say overseas or another shop to them... is just not as pleasant.

Jason n dickybird... just enjoy the sports. This is just a forum.
We are all no better than the other.

Yeah, there are many coming in and ask ready available info questions... but heck... don't we all. So... just direct them to page 1. If lazy... but still wan to answer... just say "read page 1".

Cheers.

guys need assistant,

is giant anthem is good bike for on road and off road?

or should get XTC?

is anthem only mean for off road?

should get 27 or 29?

Thx
*
Anthem is great bike. So is XTC.

Giant is a reputable brand and is one of the cheapest brand you can invest your money in.

Saying that...
Anthem and XTC... both can go offroad and on road.

By the name of Mountain Bike... it is designed for offroad.

But you can use a Toyota Hilux 4x4 on road too. Many owning one never offroad as well.
Are they wrong? Na... its just preference.
Of course, a Toyota 86 will definitely able to tackle the road better... but heck...

So... whether offroad or on road... that is very much up to you.

XTC and Anthem....

Which one better?

Don't think too much.
XTC is hardtail. Meaning lighter but harder on ur butts.
Anthem will be more comfort.

And if you are 18 yrs old... Hardtail is great.
If you are 40 years old, fullsus is great.

26, 650B, 29...

26 - whether u like it or not... trend is moving towards 650B and 29. Some even say by 2015, most brands would discontinue their 26er.

650B - The trend now more for All Mountain.
29er - Trend moving towards XC.

So... what is All mountain and XC... read page 1.

Cheers.

if too small you be cramp and its uncomfortable especially for your back.... if u slighly between size u can play with longer stem and lay back seat post.
u need to go see around what available fit you within your budget rather than just those few used bike.

why not a new bike within that budget or stretch your budget a little if you can. getting something dont fit is just the same as wasting money.
*
The 18" 29er should be right for u. Get in touch with the guy and try it out.

kiara some say can be ridden with a Giant XTC. and FRIM for sure XTC can tackle. kiara kakis here may or not agree but for kiara need a quick handling bike because of the singletrack which the xtc should be. other than that i think a dropper seatpost may help with leaning way back for those ball shrinking incliines?
how long have already you been on the XTC? the xtc is a good bike i think, says the guy who rides an Anthem.hehe
*
U everytime say Kiara is either not rideable or dangerous... have you actually rode in Kiara?

u don't go tubeless? if go tubeless, is it safe to go below recommended minimum 30psi? the 30psi is to ensure bead seating safely or is it to prevent snakebite?
*
Tubeless can go at 20psi n heard some go at 18psi.
No problem. No need snakeskin.

U need constant top up sealant to avoid leak.
