easy! a bike with a light overall weight and big fat tyres. by light i mean a hardtail bike around 26 pounds with at least a Deore drivetrain. why light, so it will not feel like hell when you ride. fat tires give good road resistance so will help you train up for the trails and they are nice cushy on trails smile.gif

Thanks for the good advise. Will keep that in mind.

You guys might be very experience mountain bikers, but reading some of your post just show how childish and disrespectful some of you are.

Being a knowledgable mountain biker means being able to share useful infos to anyone from beginner to the advance biker. Not making cocky statement like getting bolted wheels, basket in front, mud guard etc.

For eg. a jogger in taman should deserve a pair of good shoes to protect the knees etc just as much as an athlete.

seriously... yes...
you guys must understand why that advise was given.

bike at that price range are pretty much the same in terms of performance and component across the different brand.

there is really not much different in between the different components offered in these bikes around the same pricing bracket. they all perform similarly except for the brand and look and feel of the bike.

so it very much down to personal preference of which style and brand you personally like.

additional advice for getting a new bike
- get the right size fitting (important)
- get a hardtail bike instead of a fullsus. simpler = easier to learn and ride. less things to go wear and tear.
*
Are you saying at certain price range eg Rm1000 range or Rm2000 range, all the bike are more or less the same.

I strongly disagree as I believe there are some bikes that are better build or equiped even at the same price range. Some rides better etc. To simply say choose the color you like sound more like an insult to the budget rider.

Don't get me wrong. I am not trying to flame here LOL. I do agree at Rm1-2k MTB are entry level which is all low end stuff, but a little more advise would be more helpful than simply choose the color....don't you all agree?

Too bad I can't assemble it yet. I am going offshore tomorrow for probably 4 weeks.

My crossride front is also not compatible with the Epicon fork because the I didn't know the crossride came with 15mm thru axle while the Epicon is 9mm. Luckily I found an adapter from Mavic to convert from 15mm to 9mm QR and its coming all the way from Germany now.

Tyres not yet buy.

My Montague specs:

Swissbike X70 frame by Montague
Truvativ Stylo T20 handle Stem Seatpost
Shimano M395 Hydraulic Disc Brake
Shimano M430 Alivio Groupset
Suntour Epicon fork with remote lock/release
Mavic Crossride Disc(downhill version) with Kenda K1010 folding type tyres
Rubar Saddle
Cycle Track Pedal

I bought the frame from a very nice gentleman in bycyclebuysell forum. Here is his post for the Montague frame he is selling. Skabt

His montague frame is confirm original. He is also selling Montague Boston frame which don't have fake in the market yet. Absolutely no reason to believe its fake. The price is as stated on his post but due to currency RM dropping like bird shit, it might increase in future.

I got all the parts from him from China except the crossride disc wheel I bought from byciclebuysell too.

Total I spend on my bike is about RM3500. Clould have been less but the shop charges RM80 for assemble fee plus smoe Rm210 for some small parts and that I miss out.

If I buy the parts in M'sia probably would cost me more than RM5000

So... what car u driving?
What house u staying?
What phone u using?

If I buy a Merz, I got to wear tie, I drive a BM, I got to drive 220kmh ave, or if I got a proton I got to throw in the rubbish bin?

Oh pls... getting a proper mountain bike doesn't mean u got to ride like these people in video. We all hope to... that is for sure... but that is too far out right?
Eleh... this ride to look see look see girls on bikes only...

We don't have highway here so we don't really need a car.

Over here we still stay on tree top.

Nokia 3210 still working!

Oh...I though this is Mountain Biking forum where you jump, jump, jump around!
