Screen size as all of you know is measured diagonally. So, it's at their whim and fancy whether to make it tall or wide. Let's hope it is the former otherwise the phone would be difficult to grasp.

Design is a very subjective issue, very. So, everyone would have their views on it. Like they say, the proof is in the pudding. Let's just wait and see the sales figure when it comes out.

From previous trends, I believe it would be another run away success despite the brickbats from certain quarters..

sales figure no need to doubt samsung anymore. anyhow, S4 will surely be a big hit.

in a way, samsung have been very successful in smartphone market now (on par with apple i would say). there are so many S3/N2 user that i know who they don't know anything about the spec and special feature of their phone.
*
My point exactly. There are certain people who may dislike the design and they have all the right to. But when it comes right down to it, Samsung is concerned about their sales. When they are successful, it is testament that they are doing it right for the consumers at large.

QUOTE(Rei7 @ Mar 12 2013, 11:06 AM)
The design is one of the most important thing a phone should have.
All phones should have the basic function and specs you want, so people don't bother about it that much.
But when it comes to design people are like  shocking.gif  all the time.
I have a Lumia 920 and no one else has one at the time it came out.
Looks very unique and the design UI is so awesome that some of my friends decided to ditch their iPhone and S3.
We are all art students though, so design is much important to us.  laugh.gif
*
Design is important, that I agree with you. The point I raised in my earlier post is that design is a subjective issue. You may like a specific one, someone else will have his/her preference. So, who's to say which is better?

I disagree. Design can be very important.

Would u buy a BMW with the most advanced features but design looks like Myvi?
*
Not trying to knock you as I do not disagree with you. But my comments in my past few posts and replies from others should sum up the issue about design.

Design or otherwise. This S4 is to put it mildly : thick and Fugly.

If you are referring to the yet to be released S4, how, may I know you came to that conclusion?

Walan, nowadays phone annoucement also need to watch it live ka?
I tot normally only Champions League, Euro, World Cup, then only ppl will wake-up to catch it live...

Really dun understand.. maybe now the world has changed.

Seriously, I rather sacrifice my sleep to catch the share market, forex fluctuations, breaking world news etc than just merely an unimportant phone announcement.
*
I wonder where you have been all this while. This has been going on for ages and is not happening only now. Also, electronic gadgetry is a multi-billion dollar industry and therefore is not un-important.

Last time only Apple do it in a separate event. but nowadays Samsung , HTC ,Google even Facebook also have product announcement. Watch or not up to the consumer. Usually the leaks a few days before are already quite accurate so the announcement is just customary. Like this Samsung S4 , no need to watch also know already.
*
There are a few things wrong here. Firstly, it is not just Apple. It is just that Apple is more widely publicized in our neck of the woods compared to others. Secondly, the leaks are not all that accurate. At best, it is made to be believable. Thirdly, during the launch, more are revealed.

Last but not least, you now say…'Watch or not (is) up to the consumer(s)'…Why then did you make that sweeping statement when, if you just say this, it would very acceptable?

PS. Let me ask you in view of what you mentioned, do you now know exactly what S4 has in store for us, as it is only a few days away from the launch? I rest my case.

You a lawyer or something? I checked your posts, you take offense to every tiny thing people say. say Design ugly  tak boleh/belum tahu, say Design is important tak boleh, Samsung announcement people dont want to wake up and see also insulted you it seems.  Have to ask back people question also: May I know this may I know that.

If you don't want people to comment on a unreleased product, ask the OPs to close this thread. Not to rough up people who comment.
*
Forums are for people to voice their views objectively and in so doing help others. But when done so irrelevantly or not on the subject matters, it becomes not only unnecessary and misleading but annoying at times.

If you check back, there are others who have 'knocked' you as well but it so happens I am more eloquent than them. Let me just say this, if you can't take the heat, check the drum before you beat.

Slim device means small battery and then you start complaining abt battery life. Give me another 2mm with a large battery anyday.

This obsession with design is very superficial imho.

The correct word fails me. Perhaps PeeEl can provide the correct word defining shallowness. tongue.gif
*
The most apt word would be frivolous. But like so many topics, it boils down to nothing but individual preference just like the old adage, 'One Man's Poison Is Another Man's Meat'.

Touche. To add on, 'the proof is in the pudding' which basically means the innards are of more intrinsic value. But again, many will beg to differ which brings us back to our idioms. rclxub.gif

I have been eyeing the XZ when it was announced. But after being enlightened from that thread here, it does not look too appetizing (since we have been talking about food). The S4 does seem to have an edge, so, yeah, let's keep certain parts of our anatomy crossed that is doesn't disappoint.

And I'd (and a host of others) be using that to extrapolate what goodness might come our way for the Note 3. I hope it is savory.

Though the Note2 at this point is un-paralleled (strictly my opinion), I still feel the size is a teeny bit big (again, my personal view). That's why I am looking at a 5" phone to emigrate to.

It's really interesting reading all the posts. It really fortifies what I have been 'studying' half my life which is the multi-facets of humans and their behavior.

To put it simply, 'to each his own'. And there are 2 sides to a coin. Having said that, let's see whether the sales of this S4 will out-pace its predecessor. In my mind, it will and I am willing to put a wager on it.

well, Samsung is overload with galaxy series phone and all looks damn similar... and since HTC has change how the android phone game play.. everyone is speculating that Samsung will answer to their fans call by having better design...

IMHO, some of the function that S4 offers is not that practical... like the group share.. not everyone around you also use S4... home sync.. i bet hardly we will see in MY.. the smart stop video thingy.. i think it just will drain battery.. even on my Note 2 i off the smart stay...
*
Do you mind if I use your comments to attest to what I posted earlier? No vilification whatsoever.

Samsung or for that matter no properly managed organizations will fix what 'ain't broke'. And Samsung is way ahead of HTC in every sense of the word. Why then would they emulate them? I have offered a wager earlier that the S4 will do better than the S3. Now with tongue-in-cheek I am offering another one that Samsung will outperform HTC in sales.

You are most definitely entitled to your opinion but mine is that you, I believe is not thinking globally cause phones are sold universally and the functions/features you mentioned may not be widely used in our motherland but probably cannot be done without in other parts of the world.

This short summary just ratifies what I posted earlier. Again, please don't take offense as I just want, not in defense of Samsung, to validate my remark about the interesting mind-set of the human race.

You just raised a very valid point which escaped us, including yours truly. All of us here are already owners/users of S3 and/or Note2. Yeah, there are others out there who do not own the phones we have or even the Samsung brand. As such, it is this demographic that Samsung may conquer with the S4.
