woow.. thanks guys.. i really learned a lot..

dell are cheaest in the market? i all the while tot acer is the cheapest around... considering the pretty high end specs and still cheap.

Tainted... u said the price of the ram if build bundle with laptops or separate is depend on brands... wat kind of brands? kingston and apacer? lolx sorry those r the only 2 most popular ram i know...
*
Acer is still cheapest.
Dell is slightly more, but wins because of their good after sales service and support.

As for the RAMs,different brand of RAM has different prices.(seperate)
Common ones are kingston,kingmaxx..

Actually the DELL Engineer don't pick it up but repair it in your house for you to see. They even have certain procedures when placing your lappie on surfaces. Some pics to share......

Notice the foam underneath used as a surface to place the lappie. This was the engineer changing the LCD for my Inspiron 700M. Friendly guy he was rclxms.gif

Oh ya, now that u mentioned it, i also kena a problem with my Inspiron only a few days after getting it from the mail... I called the Dell Tech-Support and they sent a technician over to my office the next day...

The guy was also a friendly fellow who managed to settle my problem the following day as the kaput item (can't remember which one was spoilt) had to be obtained from his side...

Sotong,

Its a long story concerning my LCD problem. To cut it short, I received my 700M( 12.1") with some dead-pixels. After some complaining and negotiating.... they sent an engineer to replace mine with a new one. The new one seemed different from the start. I didn't ask for Truelife but the new one had better viewing angles. Maybe they gave me a better LCD. Pics damn good and by far the model with the least light leakage among the Inspiron models....

No problems since the changes. Actually did a few replacements towards the end of my warranty in Jan. Thanks to the engineer actually. He gave me tips on how to request for new parts. Thru him I got a new DVD-RW when mine wasn't spoilt. The only problem is sometimes my toucpad can be a bit erratic. Don't use it often as I have a Wireless mouse but one in a while when I use it , the cursor will run. Already changed the touchpad once before. Will try and change the sensitivity settings for it and see. Warranty over so no more claiming. A years extension requires RM550 and will have to go thru some tests from the DELL Engineers.

ooo do u mean that after 3 years of complete cover if u pay another rm550 u will extend your warranty for another 3 years?

from the way u guys said it.. it seems like dell's laptop will more prone to spoilt.. such as lcd problem... touch pad... but just that they have the complete cover which will make the diferrences.... isnt it?

So say if you take the 3 years complete cover, you need not pay a single cent for repairs, even from accidents? What about if you have issues overseas (during a trip for example)? I've been told by Dell that despite having an 'international warranty', you still need to pay if you wanna get it fixed overseas.... comments?

Well due to the fact these lappies are constructed in a short period of time, the engineer told me there are sure to be 1 or 2 that might have minor problems like dead-pixels or erratic touchpad(which were my problems). The dead-pixel could have been changed earlier but the Blue DELL wallapaper sort of conceiled the dead-pixels so I couldnt detect them when I received my lappie. The touchpad I would say was the only problem that developed within my care. DVD-RW I never asked for change but just to check cos some DVD movies cannot be played on it but can be played on my home DVD player. Engineer still came and replaced a new DVD-RW for me. notworthy.gif

Dell Technical Assistance told me for complete cover everything including falls/spills/knocks are covered. Only FIRE and THEFT are not covered. And after your first 3 years of complete cover, should you want to extend it then your lappie will have to be inspected by their engineers and given a green light that its free of problems at that moment before they allow you to extend. And RM550 is only for another year.

As i remember when i buy my TFT LCD i check the dead-pixel by switching the screen into total black wall paper or black screen saver.

Yes Cursor run when you use the touchpad. The term used by the engineer was Erratic Mouse. If your's still under warranty then no harm in calling and complaining to them. I use external mouse most of the time so no problems. Its only sometimes when i switch to touchpad that I might experience it. Sometimes it happens not always.....

Unfortunately my dead-pixel is dark in colour so with a dark background i can't see it.

DELL promotion getting better each n everyday
but right now is reasonable price with ATI X1300 & X1400
but if u want to wait, i think they'll come up with X1600 option

i decided to order DELL in a day
before that, done lot of research between DELL & ACER
both lappie r cool but DELL won in after sales support
before that i went to Networld at Midvalley to do some research
of course, ACER lighter than DELL but i can't decide because i like the Duo Processor a lot
the ACER model i interested in is 5502ZNWXCi
they offered me reasonable price but i only got budget of RM4K
they model price is RM3199 + 1GB upgrade for RM450
minus RM200 for student rebate
so total is RM3449 with 1.2GB RAM 60GB HDD with Linux OS but no Duo Processor
the Duo processor model is RM3688 and RM3988
but still 256 RAM and 60GB HDD which is DELL beat the price

when i saw DELL promotion with free upgrade 1GB RAM and 80GB HDD for RM3799
i decided that's it, i'm gonna call them n make the booking

better watch out for free upgrade like RAM and DVD-RW or HDD
nowadays i can't see 6400 promotions with free RAM upgrade
normally HDD or Drive or Cash Redemption bla bla bla
lucky me coz i got free upgrade of RAM & HDD
dun mind about DVD-RW coz i only use CD-RW ONLY

in the future may be i try to get external DVD-RW
getting cheaper nowadays

oH YA...When you have the specifications you want online at the website, try calling the engineer and customizing it again from scratch. This is because when I customized my DELL online then called the DELL sales person It was cheaper from him when I tallied both prices. Plus managed to bargain for complete cover and RAM upgrade.
