Example 1: Let's say you need 1200 exp to level up, and each guardian costs 60GP to combine.
You will need 6SS => 1260 exp, GP cost = 360
If you trade for 2* same element, then 3ss can get you 15 of them (if your rate is right) => 1230, exp. GP cost = 900
If you trade for 3* same element, then 4ss can get you 12 of them (again, your rate), and you need 11 of them => 1232 exp, GP cost = 660
Example 2: Let's say you need 2000 exp to level up, and each guardian costs 120GP to combine.
You will need 10SS => 2100 exp, GP cost = 1200
If you trade for 2* same element, then 5ss can get you 25 of them => 2050 exp. GP cost = 3000 (2.5x compared to using SS)
If you trade for 3* same element, then 6ss can get you 18 of them => 2016 exp, GP cost = 2160 (1.8x compared to using SS)
I prefer a "middle way" of doing stuff, so above level 25 or 30, where cost per guardian increases a lot, you should consider trading your SS for 3* as it should be manageable.
But wait!!
What if we compare the same amount of SS?
Example 2, using 10SS to trade for 30x 3* of same element, use 18 to level up, and sell another 12 (at 120 GP a pop)
Then cost of upgrade: 2160-1440 = 740 GP
Isn't this better than using 10SS for upgrade?Problem if, what if you can't get 3* of same element?
Then for example 2, you will need 27x any 3* to get 2025 exp, and cost of leveling = 2880GP (after minus sales of spare 3*), which is 2.4x compared to SS
Now, if you can get a ratio of half of the 3* of same element,
15x Same element + 5 different element = 2055 exp, cost of leveling (after deduct sales) = 1200 GP =
Same as using SSObviously the cost savings are reduced if you can't get the same elements 3* and cost of combining guardians increase, but the maths are still similar.
Thus around level 50, just trade the guardians back into SS and GS as preferred feeders.
