Hi, everyone.

I'm thinking of getting CC from OCBC seeing how good it seems from the reviews that I've been reading.
Three questions, hope you can enlighten me:

1) If one is a Premier customer with the bank, is it better/easier to get a CC from them? If yes, will they waive any charges/fees that normally would incur through normal application?
2) Is there any promotions that one will miss out by getting it as part of Premier customer instead of applying through normal application?
3) Anything else that I should take note of?

Thanks!

1. Easier to get but no fee waiver.
2. Nothing
3. Priority should be given to HLB WISE card which gives better cash back of 10% up to rm100 per month.

Lol, I like how you put in the 3rd answer...thanks for that recommendation. Somehow I don't get good aura with HL, so I tend to stay away from that bank.
Appreciate your response! smile.gif

Finally...after reading so many good reviews on this card, I've done it! I just applied for the card today, lol...it's something that I normally wouldn't do if there's no cashbacks or any great offers tongue.gif Hopefully the good rebates will make it worthwhile.

Btw, just so you know...the GST (swipe three times in 45 days, I think) and annual fees are basically waived as what I was told. So, no charge to get this card as it is. Just no free gifts, haha...

Hi, all...just wondering, umm...I saw on the listing that online payment for TNB is classified as 5%. How does it really work? I log in to OCBC Online, select payment to TNB, and then I should have an option to use my CC to pay? Is that how the 5% will then be tied to the payment?
Because I tried online payment using my savings account money, so, I don't know how it works with CC. Thanks ya!

You need to select the Credit Card tab (the one with your credit card number) after selecting Bill Payment.

Ah, thank you!

I was just looking at dining under 5%, there's very limited places in Penang that qualifies. Maybe they should expand it to hotel restaurants too.
I'm now starting to assess to see what I can start paying using this CC once I get it so that my RM50 cap will be fulfilled, hehe...

I think Utilities itself will take up a huge chunk, and plus petrol. Is there a max cap for what you can get under a certain category?
If none, then it's a lot easier to manage this card =)

Limited restaurant qualifies? Thus far any restaurant that I went falls into dining category la, unless the owner didn't apply for correct merchant for their restaurant.

Even those chinese style restaurant also I'm getting the rebate

I was referring to the ones with 5%. The rest should be 1%, yes?

if you're ok to spend some minutes checking before dining, perhaps you wanna copy and paste (into your smartphone) the list of places that enable you 5% from the first page of this thread ... then flash yr smartphone and check if they do giveaway 5% ...

it just happened to me - "haagen dazs" does not give you 5% even though you dine at their restaurant because their merchant code does not fall into the category ... but if this it's too troublesome, then don't bother because you're still get 1%, worst case  laugh.gif

At a quick glance, seems like most places with 5% are those that I don't patronise, hehe...so it's makes it very easy for me to know what my options are, haha

The way Ocbc set up on on-line payment is tricky. The default payment is saving account not your credit card. After clicking bill payment you have to select payment by cc. A couple of times I was in a hurry and ended up payment by saving account which means zero rebate. Since then I only keep a very small amount in saving account, just in case I accidentally paid by saving account, the system will reject it because of insufficient fund.

Thanks a lot for the reminder. I'm still quite new to online banking, payment, etc, and in the phase of being familiarised with it.

If your TNB bill is substantial, MBB2Amex gives you better perks at 5% CB plus 5x treat points. CB cap at RM50/mth whereas TP is unlimited. Each point is worth approx 0.5 sen if converted to shopping vouchers.

Thanks for this info! Very helpful =)

Any idea where I can apply for this and get a free gift as well? If I apply directly from the branch, I won't be getting anything though...

No free gift even if you apply elsewhere.

Hell ... if only they come out with this one before I apply - at least can hope to get it  cry.gif

Damned, I applied through the branch cuz I thought there's no other promotion! I called up the agent and asked about this because he did not tell me about this on-going promo when I signed up (apparently online promo and in-house are completely different), so the sales agent say he will try to work it out for me (try to slot my entry in). If this doesn't turn out the way it should be, I'm going to file an official complaint.

hmm, me abit skeptical that the sales fella would actually do that ... if he /she said cannot, then you may stop him/her from processing and would lose commission ... if i'm too obsess with the samsung, i would directly tell him to stop processing and apply via online ... but that's me being cruel  icon_rolleyes.gif
*
Yeah, I understand that part too. I'm not so heartless, that's why I gave him a chance by letting him get back to me by next week on the status (he needs to escalate this cuz my application is supposedly sent in already hmm.gif ). This is my 'give him the benefit of the doubt' timeline. If he screws me over on this, I'm gonna report his name up or something.

regarding the remaining RM30 cashback - you will get it after 8 - 10 weeks after the promotion ends ... meaning since this RM80 (RM50 + RM30) promotion only ends end-june this year, expect to get it somewhere in SEPT-2013 ...  biggrin.gif
*
Exactly why I didn't want to even bother checking after I did the transaction, lol...RM30, but wait till so long to get it. By the time we get there, it'll be forgotten (for me). So I'm just gonna assume they won't screw it up since it's just a small amount tongue.gif

Applying online really makes me go insane. Just waiting for their call of confirmation takes such a long time! I don't know if calling up their hotline will help but if I still don't hear from them, looks like it's the only way to go =[

Too bad mine's already submitted, otherwise I wouldn't mine to do it through him. But is Eddy's considered as online application, just curious?

Nope, online application is go through our Telemarketer at Cap Square Card Sales dept. I'm from Card Sales-Direct Sales, if the document go through direct sales staff, then it's consider as direct sales. Difference is just original sighted or not original sighted documents only. Hope this clarify your doubt.  biggrin.gif

I noticed Direct Sales is a lot faster than online application for OCBC and the number of documents required is lesser as well. I wonder why.

If anyone's going to be applying for this card and wants it fast, take my advice and don't apply online. Until today, I still haven't received the confirmation call on my application status...it's been like, 3 weeks now? I feel like strangling myself for canceling my initial application with the branch (which took only days!!) and changed it to online submission just because of the stupid Samsung S4 draw. The nightmarish wait is giving me unnecessary headache and I hate it. Imagine if I really could get the card, it'd be months before I get it versus 1-2 weeks max through branch.

My experience is the total opposite. In fact, it is the easiest and fastest application from start to final delivery. 3 weeks, something is wrong already. Just give a call to CS and ask the status and why it is taking so long.
*
Yeah, I did. We've been corresponding through email and she was responsive, but too bad it didn't help to expedite anything much.
Perhaps it depends on your luck, sigh.

Got multiple calls from them approximately after 2 days of submission. It was on Monday and Tuesday. I didn't picked em up as I was having meeting. They called me up again on Wednesday. Submitted my documents on Friday (28th June 2013). Monday 1st of July called me up again to inform me that it has been submitted for processing. Till now I've yet to receive any feedback.

ps: I applied online.

You didn't follow up with them on the status between 1st and today?
So you don't know if your application is approved or not, yes?
