Unless if you are into some pretty serious photography involving fast moving subjects, the D7000 is the wiser pick, leaving you around RM1k for some better glass 

better resoulution cz of higher MP bah..
i think the d7k is a wise buy for now..dno price will further decrease or not..bt with 1k less, u can get urself a decent lens..maybe u could get the 18-105 and buy the 11-16 tokina..i think wide angle quite nice for travel..haha..

Use Lightroom
Adjust the highlight and shadow colors under Split Toning (A bit trial and error until you get the effects you desire)
Under Tone Curve, adjust the lefthand-most Point Curve (for black) upwards so the black colors will be brighter, and at the same time giving the effect as if a transparent white "filter" covers the entire photo.
Adjust the remaining, normal settings i.e. saturation, highlights, exposure etc. until you get the wanted effect

*Just my guess haha, and sorry about the terms, I don't know what exactly are they called 

mainly adjust in split toning, temperature and saturation.
the i did a gradient on this pic, from top right to bottom left, increase the temp and exposure too
