Sure, if you're willing to pull network cable from your room to living room. Not sure if there are wireless/homeplug alternative for IPTV connection.

It is possible to route the fibre cable to my room and install the modem in my room and then route another fibre cable to the living room for the IPTV?

If you're in landed house, fiber.

The IPTV decoder must connect to the RG then only to the BTU is it? The decoder can't connect to the BTU directly?

Means that I have no choice but to pull the network cable all the way from living room to my room. Can I use my existing ADSL modem as a hub? Because I might wanna build a NAS drive later.

1st you asked if you can connect IPTV STB direct to BTU, so this means that your BTU is at living room and RG(Router) is in your room? Hence now u wanna pull the wire from your router in your room to the living hall for IPTV? How about homeplugs?
*
I haven't install Unifi yet, I'm doing planning. Homeplug is quite expensive for me.

I see, hmm in that case the wires should be substancially cheaper... I bought a flat 10m ethernet cat5e cable for RM20++ if not mistaken.

More expensive than the round type but better looking la since running under the door to my router ouside the room. Found no performance difference too. Hence unless u need more than 50m, it will still be cheaper than those high quality homeplug notworthy.gif

Since you might wanna have a NAS, not clear on how you are going to implement it but it's better to have a wired connection to the NAS or the Host especially if you are gonna mass download/upload directly to/from the NAS to prevent bottlenecks on the wireless clients. Especially if you are using TM's stock router...
*
I might need a switch to split the connection to my PC and my NAS. Can I use my current ADSL router to get the job done without buying a new switch?

you can refer to here:

4 or 5 ports should be sufficient.

guess not quite enough.
i am using all 4 ports now.
1 for PC
1 for NAS
1 for media player
1 for tv

From the RG (in the living room) I will pull 1 network cable to my room and connect to a switch to split the connection. Possible right?

You could put NAS near your pc, media player does not need gigabit to play the movies from NAS.
My NAS is connected to my media player using homeplug, I don't see any playback issues.
*
I want my NAS in my room because I will be in room for most of the time. Mind sharing the specs of your NAS?

Just got a call from TM (as usual) for the Unifi upgrade (currently using streamyx)... was surprised that they told me my average data usage!  shocking.gif  They really track this stuff?

Btw, they also told me that the relocation fee is waived. Is this true? Coz now I'm not relocating, but in the future might. So I don't need to pay the relocation if I move in the future?
*
How much is your average data usage?

If the STB means the IPTV device given by TM. No it can't because the IPTV network in on another VLAN segment (600).

Hmm... hmm.gif

So there's no way to streaming video files directly from my PC shared folder or my server?

Hmm, the unifi tv box can stream video from you NAS? I don't think got that feature.
If you want to stream movie from your PC or NAS, consider getting a media player device.
*
I see. Then the connection will be like this? NAS > Media Player > TV? Without going to the Unifi TV Box?

First please tell us what you expect to work in the configuration you drawn.

Btw, you expect to use the STB to play movie from your NAS?
*
Since you said earlier I need a media player to play files directly from my NAS, then I think it will be later. But can the STB play movies via the USB port?

QUOTE(aneip @ May 14 2013, 12:11 AM)
Internet and LAN should be ok.
