Does it protect/cover the top n bottom part ?
*
I am using Nillkin, the leather version and nope it does not cover the top and bottom part. Meaning to say when u hold the top and bottom you're actually touching the Nexus 7 device itself which is the silver bezel.

Now the rear part of the case is actually rubberised PVC cum leather, it's quite durable and tough, it also curved a bit towards the top and bottom, so in my opinion, it provides adequate protection but won't protect a direct hit on the top or bottom of your device.

I want to ask 3 noob questions:-

1.  I have Nexus 7 C cellular.  can I use a phone line + data plan SIM card in the N7C?  Of course I wouldnt be able to make calls but that SIM card is for my 3rd Phone that I want to retire off.

2. Does N7C use normal size SIM or micro SIM?

3.  Some people say charge to N7 only for few hours.  What if I charge when going to bed and stop when wake up (about 7-8 hours) will it damage the battery?
*
1. Yes, it will work fine.

2. It's micro SIM

3. I also charge when going to bed and switch off when wake up. No harm done to the batteries as the circuitry will stop charging when battery reaches full.

hey man, what ROM you are using currently? I'm back with stock for both rom and kernel. battery kind of suck with any custom kernel or rom.
*
I m factory default on everything.

I switch off location services, wifi, b.tooth, NFC, cellular when not in use and find that its battery lasts.

Even leaving NFC alone to ON will make a difference already. So make sure off which ever you do not use.

To those saying their temperatures are 26 - 35 range....I'd like to confirm are those CPU temp?

Just wanna make sure you guys are not referring to the weather temp in any of the apps.

At room temperature I don't think so it will hover in the 2x since our malaysian ambient temp is already 3x.

My CPU temp is also hovering around 42 deg C.

Anyone in Nexus 7 3G facing trouble in configurating umobile 3G APN Settings? :/

I seems to get some problem over 'H' signal and I believe that it would be my APN not configured correctly.
*
I am using U mobile and is happy with its coverage and speed. No problem at all. Make sure your APN settings are correct and is saved properly. Its a little tricky to save.

Do confirm your APN settings are same to mine below :

U Mobile Internet APN
Name : U Mobile Internet
APN : my3g
Proxy, Port, Username, Password, Server : NIL
MMSC : http://10.30.3.11/servlets/mms
MMS Proxy : 10.30.5.11
MMS Port : 8080
MCC : 502
MNC : 18
Authentication Type : none
APN Type : Not Set
APN Protocol : IPv4
APN Roaming Protocol : IPv4
Bearer : Unspecified

Try temp+cpu V2.. It consumes the less ram and batt if compared to dashclock's..

Edit: it's batt temp, not CPU temp.. You can't measure Nexus 7 CPU's temp.
*
QUOTE(ralph_d @ Mar 28 2013, 10:07 AM)
I'm using Battery Widget Reborn!, actually.
didn't use Dashclock's, but still using dashclock.

downloaded temp+cpu v2, also showing battery temp
seems like N7's CPU have no sensor, tried lots of app/widget all show batt temp.
downloaded system tuner, will upload soon
*
Guys, Nexus 7 DO have CPU temp. Just install System Tuner Pro as I mentioned and you will get it.

haha not really that type of person. furthermore, all those clerks are clueless girls, you know. So hard to explain to them. I personally told em to tell the technician that please change the microphone unit, and the technician came out and told me, it wasnt possible, coz they needed to change the whole mobo just for a broken mic, made me wondering, did Asus just solder all the components to the mobo?  rclxub.gif

how i wish there's another Asus service centre here in JB. That centre in Skudai Plaza isnt really an Asus one, just a some-brand-appointed centre, including Samsung, Brother, etc.

nvm this monday i'll give em a call for sure. my place is kinda far from that centre too. another wasteful drive again, and only God knows how long they're gonna hold my tab after this.  doh.gif
*
You can confirm whether they changed your mobo by looking at your serial number in your settings/about now and tally with the S/N on your box or the sticker near the speaker vent.

If there's a mobo change your S/N in settings/about should not be the same as those on the box / sticker already.

And to all who's concerned about CPU thermal issue....do note that 40 - 50 C during idle is normal temp for this CPU...during load (utilisation) it may go up to even 70+ deg C which is also normal..just that you will feel a bit warm at the rear. The CPU does not have a heatsink or fan like our PC / laptop.

That is correct. You can't make calls. The most is probably getting your Whatsapp working. Call function development had hit a wall unless I'm mistaken
*
Yep, no calls can be made thru the Nexus...but I have so far managed to get Messaging (sms) to work without rooting or anything like that.

Same here on whatsapp. Just download the apk and install. It works straight after the pin number authentication of course.

I need not do anything else.

Hi, thinking of buying Nexus 7 within this month. Currently using Tab 10.1 (old), too big to carry around so want to change to something smaller. So to get ready before I buy it, I have a few question....

I read in the FAQs section at the 1st page. One of the question is how to use 3G to online and the answer is a bit complicated involving rooting. It is really difficult to get 3G connection with Nexus 7 or this only apply for wifi version? I'm planning to buy Nexus 7c 32gb 3G and I thought like Tab 10.1, I just slot the sim card.

One more question, I also read one of forumer want to install Whatsapp and the answer also not a straight forward 1 or 2 step. It is really difficult to install whatsapp?
*
Those concerns you highlighted are only applicable to the non 3G versions. For 3G (cellular) models, you just have to plug in your simcard and it works right away.

As for whatsapp, you just have to install the APK and it works right after you register your phone number and authenticate via sms code as well.

can't we just install whatsapp from playstore as normal android phone does ?
*
Since this Nexus7 3G is for data use only, Whatsapp which requires that you have a voice / messaging capable simcard & functionality is not readily available in Play Store for you. That is what I came to understand from my search. Otherwise I would have installed it right from the Play Store.

anyone going to upgrade to nexus 7 2?
*
I hope to get it but only if it has phone (calling) functions. So far I don't see any spec announced or leaked yet. Otherwise, I will go for Asus Fonepad which is going for like RM700 new, now. Only complaint, its single core Intel Atom processor.

Fonepad has been proven to be much smoother than galaxy tab and can match with nexus 7,its like comparing nexus 7 and nexus 10,sure nexus 10 win even though its only dual core
*
Agree with u bro...and the FonePad's battery really lasts. But I m not gonna elaborate more on FonePad since we are in a Nexus 7 thread tongue.gif

So I'll be getting Fonepad if 2nd gen Nexus 7 isn't anything to shout about. But I have a feeling it will come with Android 5.

i noticed that my nexus 7 battery drained quite high for past few days.before sleep the battery is about 38% and after i woke up only 7% available which is never happened before.

I have checked background running apps and saw nothing unusual..do anyone have this kind of problem too? sad.gif

NFC, Location Services, Wifi, Bluetooth all of these if left ON, will consume quite a bit of battery juice. Turn them off if you do not use them.
