Dear all,

I just came back to Langkawi yesterday, 3days 2 nights trip.

The car rental was quite cheap, RM 100 for 3 days, Proton Iswara 1.3 (M). Rented at airport. Not bad...

For the trip, quite ok la. The Air Hangat is still underconstruction, cannot dip urself there but they provided pails for you to dip your foot ONLY. smile.gif In addition, cable car service got problem and closed down temporary, (masalah teknikal), and still dunno when will reopen. Plenty of tourist disappointed. sad.gif
As for Bird Paradise, quite good, except the birds are too full and does not eat the bird feed. Croc farm very isolated but can see very very big croc. The croc show was not bad afterall. rclxms.gif

Went to Kuah town to buy duty free good, JUST a reminder to you guys,
see and compare the prices at each shop. Sometimes, in certain shop , a type of chocolate or liquor is cheap compared to others. For example, i bought Cadbury Rum Chocolate in Kuah, (Coco Shop), RM 7.5, but in another shop RM 7.9, but airport RM 12. Martell VSOP best bought at Bird Paradise duty free shop, RM 85. Others, RM90++, airport RM151. shocking.gif

Island Hopping satisfactory only. I think too commercialised. Nothing much to see though. sad.gif Went to see Dayang Bunting Island, the lake and eagle feeding, and one beach. Too many people at one time because all the boats go out the same time, 9.30am. SO, imagine more than 200ppl at one beach. sad.gif

Food, ate at Rootian as recommended in past forumers. Quite expensive. Before order ask price RM 25, but receipt RM32. Duno how to argue tho. I think they markup the price. But in another shop opposite Rootian not bad too. Coz they will inform you the price of food before you really order. They made the receipt when ordering. SO you know, how much exactly. Food taste good oso. The shop name- Sunrise....

Kastam checking- doesn really check. We bought 2 packs of cigarattes and he asked 2 Packs ONLY?? Hmmm.... liquor nvr check ( we bought 4 bottles) I even ask him- U mahu check???? Not friendly officer.

Airasia flights very puntual. smile.gif They say board in 5.05pm, then really 5.05 you can board in plane. Arrive exactly the time estimated.

SO, that's all.....

In the mood to write a brief review of my Langkawi trip, 31/6 to 2/7 biggrin.gif

Let me summarize the expenses :

AirAsia Return Tickets for two, RM 500.00
Accomodation @ Sunset Beach Resort for 2 nights, RM 380.00
Meal / Surveniors / Entertainment, roughly about RM 500.00

Highly recommending this resort!

wub.gif Love the exotic resort feel, the private beach, the sandy sand, the wave & breeze, and never forget to mention, the friendly resort attendances biggrin.gif

This is the private beach!

Renting a car, easier to travel around laugh.gif

Therefore, we settle down with a Proton Waja 1.6 (A) for RM 140 @ 3 Days
which we think should be a good bargain thumbup.gif
We filled around RM30.00 petrol, and it was suffiecient to round the whole Langkawi island! biggrin.gif

Some Duty Free Items:

We bought a bottle of 750ml SWING for RM 95.00
(Langkawi airport is selling the same thing for RM 120.00 sweat.gif )
and a BLACK LABEL at 1L for RM 75.00 thumbup.gif

And of course, some chocalates & Ciggy.

Places that we didn't go:

- Island hoping (heard that it is being too commerialized, and nothing much to see except mountains & sea)

- Underwater World (after reading the reviews in LYN, we decided to skip this either, we have been to Singapore Underwater World, afterall) biggrin.gif

Conclusion :

It is a super relaxing trip @ Langkawi.
Great experience for 1st timer like me biggrin.gif

Just came back spending approx 10 days there.

I was staying at my parents house at Kedawang, which is very very near to Pantai Cenang.

May advice anyone going to Langkawi these few days to beware of the erratic weather because it has been raining very heavily during the morning hours due to sudden change in wind direction.

If anyone who is adventurous enough, can trying going to Bukit Malut. There you can enjoy beautiful seaview from nearby fishing village and also enjoy cheap Thai food by local Thai ppl. You can even get free fresh fish from the sea by asking the fishermen. (There are certain reasons why they are giving them off for free).

Anyway, anyone going to buy duty free stuff at Kuah Town, IMHO better go to PL Soon Huat there to buy, which opposite Bayview Hotel and 2 doors away from RHB (I think). The prices of liquor and ciggies are abit cheaper let say compared to Zeno and Native Duty Free Shop

panasonic88,

Lol, well I was fortunate enough that my parents are now living there so I was able to keep my expenses down. So far the most expensive meal that I bought for myself was that RM 35.00++ afternoon tea meal at The Loaf. There are some stuff at The Loaf not worth it. Same as Bon Ton.

There are actually quite a few good places to enjoy food, like T. Jay's (opposite Underwater World) which serves good Italian home made pizza and Sheela's Place which is near Fat Mum Restaurant along Pantai Tengah. Or Mokhtar's place near Bon Ton to eat halal Kwong-Foo Noodles, so that you no need to go all the way to Kuah to eat cheap Chinese food.

Well, it is also good that I manage to buy some duty free ciggies. Came back then realized that ciggie prices jacked up again.

to whom are you asking this question?

I believe there is bus service from Alor Setar to Kuala Perlis. But i am not sure if UUM is near to Alor Setar.

No..UUM is located nxt to Thai Border at Bkt Kayu Hitam/Chanloon. So the nearest Jetty is not Kuala Kedah (Near Alor Setar which is far South!) but Kuala Perlis.....Not so sure about the Public trpt from UUM to Kuala Perlis but from the map, UUM folk can use this route to Kuala perlis:

UUM>Chanloon Interchange > Go straight towards route 81 & go for another 16-20Km > Turn rite to route 103 & Kuala Perlis is only a mere 2KM from the junction of R81 & R103.
