Hi Grengo01,

Welcome back and from d sound of it, u had a really good time again. So eager to share ur hol info here. TQ. TQ.

Been following dis thread for some time s i will b going to dis beautiful island in july..my 1st trip!!

I will b renting a car s recommended...but  my bargaining skills quite poor. Sure kena katok kau2:( . Mind sharing some tips? TQ.

No la... my last trip last year also I share... just that I got loads of useful info here so I guess I just need to contribute as a payback.. smile.gif.

Renting car at Airport.. low season you can ask for 50% - 70% off. Wira about RM50/day. But if you are willing to pay a bit more you can get an Altis/ Civic/ Sentra. My take is, if its only a few days... lets travel in style.. smile.gif.

When there are many players, the price will adjust itself. So do not decide immediately... just stroll around a few counters... smile and say mahal mahal.. hahahaha...

hi there,
last time (back on feb 08) i went to lgkawi and rented a car in the airport.
rm100 per day for a nissan serena.not bad.thats weekday rate.dunno how much for the weken.
for duty free, its better to shopping in kuah town, bcoz its much cheaper than in airport or jetty.
happy holiday!

Trip Report:

Four adults four kids. Rented a Mitsubishi Spacewagon RM240/- 4D3N (Full 4 days). Petrol used: RM70.

Stayed at Awana Porto Malai.

Cenang Island Hop: RM200/- per boat.

Mangrove Swamp trip: RM180/- per boat.

Highlight is definitely the Mangrove Swamp. Although the stops they made are pretty dumb ones... croc cave, bat cave, gua cerita and fish farm..... the scenery from the trip is simply breathtaking. The boatman was quite good too... took us out to see some fishermen doing shrimp fishing... but err.. got caught in a storm and got ourselves TOTALLY DRENCHED.. LOL!

The island hopping thinggy. It is too commercialized but I guess when you bring your guests over for a trip, you are suckered into taking them for one. But find the cheapest! RM25/- per head if there are not many of you there but if many, I suggest you book one entire boat for RM200. The place to book cheap island hopping trips would be at AB Motel. Others, you have the beach boys charging you RM35 - RM40 per head..

Food, well, tried other unadvised shops, DO NOT GO TO SUNRISE RESTAURANT in Kuah! They are darn expensive... But, do try Hj Jailani's ikan bakar at Cenang. So far, I think they do the best Stingray bakar I have had. Their cili dip is great! Spicy and excellent dip!

Breakfast Bar, Cenang, is great for breakfast while an evening walk down the street of Cenang, you may get Stussy, Quicksilver tshirts for a song! (Celup ones of course).

If you can afford, Barn Thai, Kilim (on the way to Tg Rhu) is a great spot for good food. Restoran Siam @ Cenang offers some great Thai fare too at reasonable prices, of course nothing beats Barn Thai.

Wanted to try PutuMayo at Cenang but ermm.. ran out of stomach space.

Hi there, where do you get the Rm180/boat for mangrove trip ? I read someone's itinery and it cost him RM250. Thanks smile.gif

Call up this guy.... his name is Mat, his boss is En. Romli...017-5588614. He is friendly and really accomodating. His receipt is Rm200/- but nego with him a bit... his services takes off from Tg Rhu. The visit to fish farm is free but entry to fish farm need to pay Rm5/= per head.

If you are staying in Cenang, try Hj Ramli or Hj Jalani ikan pangang.. their pari pangang is grilled to perfection and the sauce is simply awsome. The best ikan bakar I had in a long2 time.

FATMUM looks expensive... hehe.. maybe you can try out and let us know the damage.

Padang Beras Terbakar.... errr... nothing much to see really.. but Kota Mahsuri and Laman Padi is more informative. You may want to give seven wells a miss especially the climb.. LOL... "old folks" like us would have had enough of climbing to do at MatCincang.. smile.gif. Their hotspring has been in eternal renovation since my trip last year while Taman Lagenda is also undergoing some facelift...

And if you have been to Aquaria, KLCC, underwater world is a yawn... you may want to reschedule your trips... on your days... Beras Terbakar is quite near mat cincang and seven wells as well as croc farm... could be done in one day's itinery.

Look out for cheap cheap Kinder Bueno... some nearing expiry goes for 14.90 for 8 double packs! Still good.. still yummy! So is some After 8 mints... smile.gif.

Just call him up and make necessary arrangements. You have to set off during low tide if you want to experience crocodile cave...

Added on May 15, 2008, 2:44 pmanyway, you try fatmum and be our guinea pig to report back to us! I have already told you not to go Sunrise in Kuah coz I kena ketuk well and proper... PutuMayo also look expensive... hehehe... but do try out Siam Restaurant along Underwater World... food not too bad.. and quite reasonable IMHO for a restaurant.
