hi there, jus wanna ask you guys. been going a two ff (one at the curve and the other at Leisure mall)
I always wanted to do deadlifts and pendlays. I dun hav a spotter and prefer to do it myself?

i did spot a machine where most ppl wiill be able to do the benchpress and squats... its a.. what i would call a "guided barbell" so my question is ... can we do deadlifts and pendlays there by adjusting the height to a minmum? thanks
*
I train alone at Fitness First Wisma Consplant.

The 'guided barbell' thing is called Smith Machine.

To do deadlifts I just set the bar on the floor and lift. (The barbell from the squat rack, not smith machine).

Never done Pendlay Rows before though.

Just a note to all of you intending to join or are already members.

If you are a student, Fitness First Wisma Consplant offers home membership with student rate for only RM129 a month. That's pretty damn cheap for a place like fitness first. I was told that there are restrictions at other places if you take student rate (can't go in during certain times and weekends) but for Wisma Consplant you can access it anytime.

Bro, using a passport membership here with student rates. No such problem about time restriction. Can go in any branch, anytime.. It's just those gimmick those MC doing la. Btw.. FF just added Medicine Balls to their collection... weights ranges from 1kg to 10kg..  rclxm9.gif

Passport with student rate can go in anytime. But home membership with student rate is different.

Yeah I saw the medicine balls, they also have some other new stuff but I didn't really check out what it is.

anyone sign up for PT ? they keep pushing me in lol ... 25 session for rm3000 shocking.gif

I prefer the environment and people in manulife ..

but in wisma consplant the trainer pritchard damn nice ... explain and guide me so detail more than the trainer in manulife ...
*
I used to train in Manulife from January till June cause I was studying at HELP. I usually go in around 10am and come out by 12pm cause I have class at 12.

Now I go to Wisma Consplant around 3.30pm, I just love to go to the gym when it's non-peak hours hehe.

I prefer the environment in Wisma Consplant though, it's just much more nicer for me hehe.

Any commend on Jas from FF Wisma Consplant ?
*
I don't know who Jas is, can you describe a little bit?

By the way if you're at Wisma Consplant, I highly recommend you get Erique, he's one of the best personal trainers I've known.

Added on August 7, 2008, 11:28 amTake my word on this, a man with a certification from ACE, is nothing compared to men that put hours a day of curious interest and research on the internet and testing our theories and seeing if they work.

Some of these PT's don't even know what hypertrophy is.....one guy told the other "Badan membesar" and he told the client "Badan membesar"

Gampang...
*
Can't agree more with you. 99% of the personal trainers out there are useless, and the 1% that are good are very hard to find.

Hybz now I remember who Jaz is. Erique (not Enrique) is a rather short malay guy that wears glasses.

Fitness First personal trainers don't get salaries, they get commissions based on how many clients they have.

The hours are very long, some come in at 6.30am and only go home around 8 or 9pm, especially if you are a new trainer and looking for clients.

Also it is possible to go a few months without being able to secure a client.

The thing that pisses me off with those big sized ironheads are their small sized brains in dumping the dumbbells all over the place when they r done. Big sized idiots.
*
Yeah I f***ing hate that as well. They'll leave all their weights on the bar or dump dumbbells all over like what you said. According to the staff there the problem is the worst during night time, one time just before they wanted to close up the place they found the free weights area was literally covered with dumbbells that just walking from one side to another would have landed you in a hospital.

dont hate me....i am no-big-sized man but i replace the weights after using it:)

Haha that's good =)

Any of you go to fitness first around 10am or so? I go to Wisma Consplant branch, and around that time there's usually one whole bunch of housewives, and maybe 1-2 'soft men' joining them. The way they act it's as if they own the whole gym. They'll go to class together, then when they came out of one class they talk and laugh so damn loud that even I can hear them even with my iPod at full blast.

The worst is because the warmup area is just next to the classes, sometimes after class they'll all gather there as if it's some kind of kopitiam and talk like there's no tomorrow.

I went for my PT from 11~12pm today lol ...

I think I know which one was you. Who is your PT? Jaz?

Ya i know those bunch... its been like that since a long long time ago. but i don't go consplant anymore... thank God. i go another outlet now. much more peaceful.
*
Which outlet are you using now? Back when I was in Manulife even during the same time there was no such thing. Don't know about other clubs, but it's really really really annoying. I pity those who don't have mp3 player with them. Can you imagine setting yourself up for your squat max when you hear a roar of laughter....geez man.

based on http://www.fitnessfirst.com.my/my/faq/recent10.asp

there should not be any long term contracts..but howcome there still is?
*
The longest contract you will ever sign up for in Fitness First is one year, and that does not come under long term contract.

The long term contracts they are referring to are those such as offered by Celebrity Fitness where you have contracts that last for years or even a lifetime.

at FF do we need to bring our own towel? anybody know what is the facilities at IOI mall? do they have jacuzzi or sauna? any great equipment there?

Thank for the sharing
*
You should bring your own towel. They do provide towel service, but that's only for Gold Members. If you want to get towel service, you have to upgrade your membership.

Every FF has a sauna room and a steam room. Highly doubt there's a jacuzzi in IOI

QUOTE(Satine @ Nov 10 2008, 07:52 PM)
well, TF sales called me twice and I went there for twice before I signed up FF few months ago. They offered me RM2++, so there is no way I givin out wrong info, that's what they told me... and that's what they ask me to pay for signing up plus d fee n etc or watever it is..

I willing to join FF bcoz they have lots of outlet and I'm able to hop to other outlet for some other classes when my time is convenience with.. that's the reason why I'm willing to pay RM175 per month. Perhaps I'm staying in Subang, there is 2 outlets in subang, 1 in summit and 1 in consplant. And another nearer to subang is IOI mall.. I even able to go passport whenever I go to other country..

As for TF, as I said earlier, I wasn't really happy, perhaps I wasn;t lucky and they were too pushy..

Added on November 10, 2008, 7:54 pmoooh... i dunno other fitness centre able to negotiate the monthly fee.. isn't that a bit unfair.. even though they dunno how to nego..

geeez... FF only able to nego for d 1st month, but d rest 11 mths.. it is fix.. am i right?
*
There isn't much you can negotiate with Fitness First except for the joining fee and admin fee.

Have you joined fitness first?

I was offered 280( admin fees+sumthing, i forgot) for the first month followed by 180 for the following 11 months for the passport package. Is that a good deal?
*
I joined back in 2007, passport package was 175 a month. I've been hearing stories about how the prices have increased, but I really don't know.

So just imagine if 2 years ago it was 175 a month, 180 now should be a good deal.

But before you join, I suggest you take a long hard look at yourself. Are you willing to commit for at least 12 months? I'm not trying to scare you or anything, it's just that I've seen way too many people 'hangat-hangat tahi ayam'.

They join, go frequently for the first few months, then after that want to quit, but can't, because of the contract.

To be honest I have not heard very good things about FF Uptown. The complains are usually regarding the free weights area being too small, and too crowded. Perhaps you should drop by the gym during the time you intend to workout and see for yourself how the situation is like.
