QUOTE(mingyuyu @ Feb 26 2013, 07:27 PM) Still don't understand why people getting so serious about sharpness. A tiny bit of sharpness won't do anything else to your pic unless you print it really large. Most people buy super high quality camera bodies and lenses, end up putting all the pics on facebook or flickr only. For me, reason to use prime is to focus on subject, isolate the background (creamy bokeh Kenot brain. And also indoor low light shot But I proud if my cheap telephoto zoom lens that can create bokeh (but hardly.) |

I just came back from another scientific trip in several islands around Semporna, Sabah. I'm really glad that I have the 50mm 1.8g with me, the images are so much sharper compared to what I've got using my kitlens
Still, having need to switch in between lenses during motorboat trips was rather daunting. A zoom lens would be better for my case imho~ |

QUOTE(chongkiatz @ Feb 26 2013, 10:01 PM) my wife using camera + phone shoot and make this photobook , no need sharpness , no need very clear image , just need the moment , the process , the meaning at the behind , that is more than enough agree with what you say, but if there is a combination of all then it will be perfect If the picture is sharp , but no meaning , no the moment , how sharp also useless » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « |

QUOTE(KTCY @ Feb 26 2013, 11:16 PM) Sorry , i doesnt mean Primes Vs Zoom , not every primes lens is sharp wide open right? Few member here keep on comparing the sharpness primes vs zoom , i just here to tell , no matter u using Primes or Zoom , sharpness / noise always put aside , Composition , Moment , Meaning always at the front part , hope u get what i mean The Sharpness i mention isn't totally OOF picture la , but is consider usable focus picture |

You're missing the point of the post.
Can you tell the difference without putting side by side? IMO that's the least important when it comes to choosing primes. Unfortunately it's always the over-emphasis on bokeh that newbies immediately go buy the cheapest prime they can, and started to spam with bokeh-rich no-DOF lousy photos. I'd go for primes for the following reasons - FIXED perspective, there's no movement of the lens. It makes it consistent all the way. - distortion control. |

I didn't put weight into the equation because those high grade primes are heavy too.
Last weekend I went on assignment with 50mm and 100mm macro only. Today my assignment, I go out with zooms. |

QUOTE(goldfries @ Feb 28 2013, 08:12 AM) Ya, at least primes with more blades than the 50mm f1.8 II & 35mm f2 does really give me the WOW feelinghttp://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2116053 Ff with primes and wide open at least WOW me, that I think cant achieve in zoom , not to say every pic must bokeh but when I need quality bokeh, nothing beat primes This post has been edited by chongkiatz: Feb 28 2013, 09:12 AM |
