crop DX user here. i think my combo of 35mm and 85mm really suits me well imho 50mm is too in-between , can just crop from the 35mm image

any good wide prime non-fisheye to introduce?

on a serious note, i carry around a 20mm n a 50mm for street photography

shooting primes out in the field forces u to plan ur shot since there is only one focal length... it is difficult at first but IMO it helps improve ur photography... i rarely crop photos to achieve "digital zoom".. i paid for 36MP n i intend to use every MP in my pic if i can...

it is lighter generally (not include f1.4 lens or 200mm++ focal length ones )

easier to get bokeh nice bokeh balls or not depends on the lens... (although f5.6 zoom lens oso can get bokeh, depends how u plan the shot )

i don own all the lens i listed enough to buy a Myvi already....

IMO a few fav lens:

20mm f3.5 viogtlander - tiny UWA MF lens... (super small n light for traveling)

35mm f1.4g - good for street photography.. (i have a fuji x100 that does the same thing but cheaper )

50mm f1.8d - it is cheap n light yet punches above it weight in terms of IQ

105mm f2.8 macro - sharp portrait lens with macro

135mm f2 DC - a great  lens for head shots

yeah correct. primes forces you to move about until u get the shot you're satisfied with plus where to find f/1.8 zooms hehe

the 35mm 1.8g DX is a fun lens... u get the same Field of view as a 50mm in FX

any thoughts on the samyang 8mm? how's the Nikon AE version?

I love primes lol. Cheap and good quality.

Makes you think about the shot alot as many have said already.
Only problem is getting a wide angle prime.
I'm planning to upgrade to a fullframe system along with the 28mm f1.8 primes that both Canon and Nikon have.

But still so expensive... ):

85mm on a crop sensor... kinda tight dontcha think  what u plan to do with it?

But I hear that 85mm is really good for headshots for portraiture on a DX format.
If I upgrade to FX I'll have to buy like the 105mm prime lenses to get that focal length (which is really expensive)

I'm a 50mm prime user lol.
50mm is sufficient for Walkabout, vacation, street. With more than 2 stops brighter than a f/2.8 lens, taking pics at dusk is pretty manageable as well.
It's on my camera 90% of the time too.

My favourite atm is Nikon 35mm F2D. Pretty much stuck on my Nikon FM slr now

Well there are cheap and expensive films. Cheap one around 10-12 ringgit per roll while expensive 25-30+

But the fun thing with film is the anticipation when you send it for develop. Never had this kind of excitement when i first start digital photography

Really depends on what you shoot.

For me I use 3 prime lenses and that's all I need.

I'm on full frame sensor and uses :

1. 20mm f2.8 for landscape and sometimes for portraits too.

2. 85mm f2.8 for portraits

3. 50mm f1.4 for everything in between the 20mm and 85mm
On a crop sensor I would suggest checking out the 35mm primes.

i uses canon 100mm f2 for heat shot portrait, on APSC is just fine and sharp, plus i uses samyang fisheye for street photography

off topic question, should i dump my 50mm f1.8 and grab a 35mm f1.4? heard many user found 50mm is very hard to compose picture and quite narrow for street, but like its light weight on 50mm lar

if got RM5k to spend, what prime(s) do u suggest to get?

TS, I dunno but I never really felt that I need anything longer than 85mm but that's just me. On a full frame the 85mm feels just right for me.

You could try and see if it can work for you on a crop sensor. No harm trying.

That's the only 3 lenses that I use nowadays. They are all that I need. Been using them for the past 2 -3 years I guess. No zooms at the moment and I don't feel like I'm missing anything.

my opinion, sell the 50mm to topup ur 1k to get a nikkor 85mm or the samyang 8mm as mentioned by lamjunrong hehe.

I would not sell the 18-105mm kit lens. It goes with your current crop factor body.

If you asked me about what primes to get then I think the decision rests more on what you actually shoot.

If you already have the 35mm then shoot with it until you know what else you need. Since you have the 18-105mm kit lens then you can quite easily find out which focal length you need. Tape your kit lens' zoom ring to the 18mm position and shoot with that for a week or two without changing the focal length. Then you will know more or less if 18mm is enough for you or you need wider.

Then tape your kit lens' zoom ring to the 85mm position and shoot with that for a week or two. Then you will know more or less if 85mm can work for you.

Get the G one. Sharper

Talk about Zeiss...You gonna say FUYOH~~~ Their glass quality is superb and nice...even a >50 years old antique lens is competitive with the lens nowadays.
The colour is damn 3D, the bokeh is so "creamy", the sharpness is good.
They Gonna Take Your Breath Away.

Price? God damn it gonna cost few thousands just for a 50mm. Yeah, like a Ferrari.
