QUOTE(FLampard @ Jan 16 2013, 10:25 AM) People always say Ivy league is much better than Oxbridge and there is no controversy in this statement, u agree? US education > UK educationbut i feel strange, isnt british education one of the best, if not the best in the world? how come harvard, MIT and UC Berkeley pawns oxbridge everytime? (got one /k tard studying in UCBerkeley, also, why are back (african and carribean) people under-represented in Oxbridge? (just heard from a friend that came back from visiting cambridge, despite the fact african carribean make up quite a huge population of GB, blacks in oxbridge are literally non existent, even malayisan also got 5 people made it in there last intake, malaysia boleh!) and also mods, what happened to my gift thread!!! i go out come back already board msg. |

QUOTE(Ahn3hn3h @ Jan 17 2013, 01:03 AM) So you think you'll be at advantage against the crowd lining outside while your Oxbridge degree will prove that you're the smartest among the crowd? right, according to your infinite wisdom. just give me the interview and i'll prove my worth, the ivy degree is just a signal. To the employer it's rubbish and this is not what the recruiters are looking for. networking and targeted recruiting definitely beat direct applications and ivy league schools (i don't know about oxbridge) provide excellent facilitation for both. but that's not to say that i'm suddenly rubbish if i apply on my own. lots of desirable employers only look at applicants from branded universities. |

QUOTE(FLampard @ Jan 17 2013, 01:09 AM) time to go to wall street and see how many harvard graduates there lots of wall street jobs are direct applications too. sometimes people even cold-call / email for jobs. i know i did. the arrogant ivy league stereotype is not 100% representative.may be due to their arrogance, there are none. maybe |

At the end of the day your employment will also depend on whether you're willing to accept the salary offer and your ability to polish your superior shoes by accomplishing your given tasks. You might report direct to Trump networking and targeted recruiting definitely beat direct applications and ivy league schools (i don't know about oxbridge) provide excellent facilitation for both. but that's not to say that i'm suddenly rubbish if i apply on my own. lots of desirable employers only look at applicants from branded universities. You might report direct to Trump I agree, I'm not arguing with that. My disagreement was with your argument that Ivy / Oxbridge people don't apply for jobs like everybody else. Oh, and being employed isn't all bad. I like my job, I'm good at it and I get paid well to do it, why the fuk not? The world is not a dichotomy of rulers and slaves, hasn't been for a few centuries.Welcome to the working underclass.
