People always say Ivy league is much better than Oxbridge and there is no controversy in this statement, u agree?

but i feel strange, isnt british education one of the best, if not the best in the world? how come harvard, MIT and UC Berkeley pawns oxbridge everytime? (got one /k tard studying in UCBerkeley, icon_idea.gif:idea:malaysia boleh!!!) and oxbridge has a longer history than harvard right?

also, why are back (african and carribean) people under-represented in Oxbridge? (just heard from a friend that came back from visiting cambridge, despite the fact african carribean make up quite a huge population of GB, blacks in oxbridge are literally non existent, even malayisan also got 5 people made it in there last intake, malaysia boleh!)

and also mods, what happened to my gift thread!!! i go out come back already board msg.

berkeley is not ivy league lol. ivy league schools tend to have better resources than oxbridge. harvard's endowment is about $35 billion, oxford has about 5 billion.

i don't think anyone argues that all 8 ivy schools are definitely better than oxbridge though

Not when it comes to the oxbridge / ivy league. There's a lot of fast track jobs that won't even look at you unless you've got a degree from those Unis.

what you learn may not be that much different but what university you went to definitely affects how potential employers pre-judge you. it matters less if you're going to be an entrepreneur but in that case you'll benefit from a much stronger alumni network if you'd gone to a top university. for example, it's about 10000x easier for a harvard kid to get a front office position at goldman sachs than some state university kid, not that the harvard kid is any better at the job.

i find your question to be all over the place. kejap tanya ivy league, then cakap MIT and UC berkeley better than oxbridge, then ask about african/caribbean. dafuq is this thread about??

there are even better schools than both ivy league and oxbridge. IMHO, if what you are looking for is a good education that doesnt break the bank, go to a different school. unless you are super rich or seriously crave the imaginary prestige of being schooled in ivy/oxbridge, there is not much point in paying through your nose to attend those schools.

Some people don't get it, you don't need to pay through your nose to attend this Unis. You are paid to go to these unis.

TS since you're shown to be obsessed with qualifications, I'm assuming you're still a 2"

In the US and UK, some of the elite University grads are now trying to hide their qualifications so that they won't be denied jobs.

Unless your father is some VIP that has a job reserved for you, those who seek jobs through fair interviews without connections are more shy to reveal that they are Oxbridge/Harvard/Ivy grads. They'll lose advantage as soonas they reveal it.

Frankly, most employers who stumbles upon a fresh Oxbridge/Ivy grad whom he/she doesn't know well for employment, the things they'll have in mind is:

1) Salary demand in this state of economy
2) Will this guy be a threat to me
3) Any places more for him to fill when I already have my favs in my list.

Surely if you're going to get a Oxbridge/Ivy degree, you don't plan to seek employment by means of walk in interview and application. Right?

and how are you going to be known if no one introduces you? University organizes employment event? Bapak help to pull cable and ice breaking?
