another possible way, is to reflash the stock images (you can stick to 4.2 images if you don't want the battery drain bug in 4.2.1)in the xda thread (the great battery life impression) a few folks like undercover, and jeff mentioned that re flashing the stock images improved their battery life. they said something about incomplete firmware installed in the device during the manufacturing. kernel is different than firmware. so that might help too. they thought it was a placebo effect but they did noticed an improvement. they recommended using efrant's manual way, because you'll have full control of the process.
if that still fail, then request a replacement unit, might be a faulty wifi chip after all.
