uematsu signing off too? AFAIK he's still in charge of FFXII music. of what i read, they were trying to find the most suitable music for FFXII, which directly cause delay to the game..

and i just dont believe that FFXII music is kinda dull..even for the battle theme which usually in high spirited tone..

its really sad that FFIX doesn't get much attention from people here,it has nice and and romantic storyline,ATB battle system, great music composed by Nobuo Uematsu(sigh miss alot of it....the two chocobo therm,Loss of Me,Feel My Blade, and etc),and the graphic was great for a game that already 6 years old...
the main reason i think it is not as popular is that..."hey,where's the cool main character like Cloud go?"

i agree to you, FFIX is not as popular among FF fans themselves but their songs are most memorable as if they were matching each special scene with each theme. i noticed that the basic notes are from memory of life but each of them played at different tempo, instrument etc.

i once heard that this game was rumored to be closing of 'old' final fantasy...before giving birth to 'new gen' final fantasy. square take many elements of older final fantasy and put it into FFIX, battle with 4 charachters, allocation of jobs class, even right to battle theme. one more nostalgic thing is...the art director is done by the..hm, i forgot his name..but certainly not tetsuya nomura..

furthermore, what made FFVII so popular is they are making milastone for other RPGS with stunning graphics, summons, FMVs and all. for older fans who played from NES editiion of FF, the breakthrough is really nice in addition of good characters and story development. FFIX in the other hands, bring almost nothing new to the fans who are hungry for greater graphic quality etc. thus decide it to be sux.

one quick conclusion...though how many say it sux, i still think FFIX is one hidden masterpiece...maybe it's not that great to replace FFVII popularity but it's nostalgic for an old timer like me (and everybody who think it's great). it's not that too late to play it (it's PS game) but surely, it's like rewinding the history; playing SNES games while many other enjoying newer FFVII on the playstation. dont look at the shell, but what's inside.

..or maybe it's just me

the concept of FF is what you see inside FF. the menu bar, commands, game system and if not too much to say, even the storyline have a general similarity.
