My personal opinion, is that anything that doesn't fully enclose the entire phone and bezel is not a case, it is just a back cover.

I bought a Kubalt case for my wife's S3, full coverage and nice grip.

Not a fan of overly thin cases. I use an Otterbox Defender

Ya hor, I was asking, who's got work that lets them get 5hr+ SOT on the Note2 leh, since everybody's complaining not enough SOT. Standard workday is 9hrs rite (including lunch).

Anyway, I do think Huawei needs to build up their distribution channel and support center. Right now their phone support is by a 3rd party contractor IINM.

And their software updates, well, leave something to be desired.

Huawei makes decent to good hardware, that's how they built their business. They need to catch up on their software. I have FIRST HAND experience with some of their dev teams

Samsung single-handedly created the >5" phone market, (they should sue crapple if they ever ventured 4.3" and greater) and everyone's catching up.
No doubt the new devices are sexy and have some improved hardware, but do not forget the key differentiator for the Note series is the Wacom ACTIVE digitizer and the companion stylus.

So, despite *maybe* nicer screens and more mpixels, and perhaps lower price, the only valid comparison is when these competitors add in the Wacom/Ntrig or whatever ACTIVE digitizer.

Without that, comparisons will be lacking. Then again, Samsung could release a same spec device with no digitizer, but I think that would confuse the market, and likely cannibalize current Note series sales.

PS: they have announced plans for a device with no digitizer but no news about it yet.

So yes, maybe the Ascend is, what, RM1599? 1699? Throw in the digitizer and S-Amoled, and let's see Huawei's price. The K3V2 is still A9 class as well, not A15 yet. No further details are available either for the K3V2.

FWIW I do own a Huawei Mediapad which is a very fine device, and the best rom is by 1 single Russian dude who got a deserved donation from me.

I have wanted that ever since the N700 tablet thing from Nokia. However, I don't think we'll ever get it coz there is no equivalent of Wintel in the ARM world. Wintel mandated a standard method of bootloading via the BIOS and all the peripherals needed an interrupt and memory map. So because of that, we can load anything on a standard x86 machine.

There is no standard BIOS for ARM machines, that's why manufacturers need to provide their bootloader code if we ever want to load anything else. Looks like a frosty Friday in Hell before that's going to happen.

Even Micro$$oft is locking down their bootloader already in the RT devices to rape users with a segmented app licensing model.

Get a nowipe rom. To be on the safe side, perform full wipe and restore your apps via Titanium. Actually, you just need the launcher to backup and restore its settings, but you need to know what data you must backup as well.

Titanium can cause some grief when it overwrites some current settings with old ones.

Ok, so Ascend D1 Quad is a 4.5" phone going for RM1099, then obviously you get a good value. However note that it is not in the same league as Note2 (pun intended) due to the digitizer and 1" larger screen.

Its equivalent would be Nexus 4 as you pointed out in your comparison. microsd and removable battery FTW anytime.

ZKL had some problem with one of the kernels I don't remember. GKF was fine. Mine's GKF but has problems with the Exynosabuse. I'm still on stock rooted deodexed DLL4.

I did a bit of quick skimming after you posted this remark couple of days back. Didn't notice anything particularly vehement, although I sensed that most were in awe and worship of the "Pure Google Experience" and "I hate skins especially TW" hahahaha.

I would suggest that you should not dislike crapple because of the spec (although it is a major contribution) but rather the closed platform and extreme arrogance of the company in its dealings with everyone else.
