http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/12/10/ap...emark_the_leaf/

If you thought Apple patenting the rectangle was a gratuitous abuse of intellectual property, you may be pained to hear that Apple has now applied to trademark a leaf.

Specifically, Apple wants to protect the leaf on its company logo. Apple applied for to the European Trademark Registry on 3 December, with the help of London lawyers from Edwards Wildman.

Here's a screengrab of the submitted application:

user posted image

The trademark application covers 10 classes of products including computers, jewellery, educational material, footwear, film streaming services and paper packaging for audio tapes.

So put the brakes on any plans to put sharp-ended tilted ovals on trainers or text books, because if the trademark is granted, you may end up on the receiving end of legal action from Cupertino.

According to the filing, Apple previously submitted a trademark application for the leaf in China.

Nothing lower than 30%. 50%+ is a safe bet. Did that once.

I think the correct word to use would be "hubris".

Woohooo... I learnt a new word today.

Off topic: learned or learnt?  Dreamed or dreamt?
*
That is somewhat debatable haahhaaha coz English is the only language that divides its native speakers.

One is an American spelling variant and one is British. The Americans tend to simplify things so it's an -ed ending for their verbs. BrE has got 1500 years of cultural baggage so........

Hubris is a Greek word btw.

Both are correct.
One is American English and the one is British English if I'm not mistaken.

But I always use learnt and dreamt. smile.gif

Anyway, back from awesome dinner. biggrin.gif

So I cant use "hubris" in normal English usage as it is not entirely right to use diff language together?

So learnt and dreamt is correct since we use British Eng here. biggrin.gif I always thought I'm wrong since my keyboard doesn't acknowledge "dreamt". But I used a English (UK) keyboard.. *confused*
*
No you can. English, due to its rich heritage, has borrowed and incorporated many foreign words into its vocabulary.

Voila, RSVP, creme are all French words, but perfectly usable in English sentences.

Hubris is just another noun in English.

You probably need to specify your keyboard TYPE in the OS or spellchecker setting changed.

You will never know what my best friend told me today. There was one day she went out with a friend yamcha and started talking about mobile phones to my friend.

He is a silent reader on LYN and told my friend, "There is this forummer on LYN is a very knowledgeable person. "He" knows a lot of things and is active on forum. "His" ID is fruitie."

My best friend laughed and told him that she is my best friend, also corrected him that I'm a female.

He said, "Really ah? Cannot believe leh, fruitie is a female and so knowledgeable." My friend asked him back, "Female cannot be knowledgeable one ah?"

I don't know to laugh or cry now. Who is this silent reader, you better reveal yourself. Are you in this thread? laugh.gif
*
Hmmm....so I haven't been hanging out at other threads, but since I'm just taking the biased view of being in the Android forums, particularly this one, the general stereotyping is still that flashing (the rom kind brows.gif ) and hacking and tweaking are male activities by far. So for females to get into that domain at the same level of knowledge goes against the pre-conceived stereotype.

So your best friend's friend is bigoted? Well, we all are bigoted at some level. icon_rolleyes.gif

FWIW, couple of years back there was some shots of the world's best female Doom player...man is she hot. So she didn't fit into the stereotype of horse faced, flat bosomed, bun-haired, horn-rimmed glasses techie female.

hahaha.

Since you mention it, I asked a few pages back as well, why do people hate Samsung? I don't see any particular reason to feel this way. No mention of crapple products to start a flame war.

I only want to understand why people say they hate Samsung?

Bad experience especially the SGS lines ....... If u ask me , SGS looks like their " white mice " .

SGS - Lags ....... After that Samsung decided to go with ext4 which solved their lagging UI
SGS2 - Users have screen issues , yellowish tint .
SGS3 - Mobo issues

For me , Samsung do sucks sometimes . I bought a Samsung Beam , the 1st gen when it was release . Was launched in Sg . That phone got problem with firmware with Starhub causing it to bootloop . Samsung made a patch for it after a week which was fast BUT after a month , that model kinda disappear totally ....... Samsung just scrap it off their catalog and wasn't launch anywhere else . Worst , there is no support for it anymore .
