QUOTE(mroys@lyn @ Mar 18 2013, 07:23 PM) can't really recall how much in total but most of the items are used item from chuisui, my-mac & lyn. I was curious when you mentioned "low tech" so wondering can get all below RM1k? most expensive is the brand new led and co2 tank. also got 1 used led as well. Was reading liquid carbon vs CO2 gas injection. It seems that for smaller tanks, liquid carbon is way much cheaper:
Costing Example 1: 125 l/27.5 gal planted aquarium Let’s compare the typical setting up and running costs of a 125 litre planted aquarium with an off-the-shelf 500g pressurised CO2 system vs. liquid carbon. Set-up cost: JBL ProFlora CO2 Set M601 - £169.99 500ml Easy-Life EasyCarbo - £10.99 Running costs – CO2: Assuming 500g lasts eight weeks with no shut-off solenoid Assuming 500g refill = £12.50 Annual refill = (52 weeks @ 8)* £12.50 = £81.25 per annum Running costs – Liquid carbon: Daily dose (1ml Easycarbo per 25 litres aquarium water) = 5ml/day 500ml bottle = 100 days Annual cost = (365 days @ 100)* £10.99 = £40.11 per annum Summary CO2 initial year running costs - £251.54 Subsequent running costs per annum - £81.25 Liquid carbon running costs - £40.11 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Costing Example 3: 25 l/5.5 gal nano planted aquarium Let’s compare the typical setting up and running costs of a 25 litre planted nano tank with nano pressurised CO2 kit vs. liquid carbon. Set-up cost: Colombo Flora-Grow CO2 Nano Set (95g disposable cylinder) - £74.99 250ml Easy-Life EasyCarbo - £5.99 Running costs – CO2: Assuming 95g lasts six weeks Assuming 95g disposable cylinder = £11.99 Annual costs = (52 weeks @ 6)* £11.99 = £103.91 per annum Running costs – Liquid carbon: Daily dose – 1ml 250ml bottle – 250 days Annual cost = (365 days @ 250)* £5.99 = £8.74 per annum Summary CO2 initial year running costs - £178.90 Subsequent running costs - £103.91 Liquid carbon running costs - £8.74 http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/content.php?sid=4080 |

Read up more about how ammonia/nitrite/nitrate is produced and how they are poisonous to your fish btw is it tru that read some article saying put driftwood will lower the ph?? http://fins.actwin.com/mirror/begin-cycling.html p/s: I was like you before, 6 goldfish of mine died after just 5 days, didn't know why, thought it was due to overcrowding |

QUOTE(brewoe_1988 @ Mar 26 2013, 05:11 PM) lols.. should be complete d since no fish die??no equipment to measure amonia and nitrate.... A tank takes about 3-4 weeks to completely cycle? Cycling means establishing a bed of bacteria in your tank, usually in the filter media. You can get those test kits from your LFS (local fish store), RM100+ for a complete test kit for Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate and PH weird thing is my fren tank run for 1 whole day put in fish die but my tank run few hours put in fish no die.. Some fish are hardy some are not, that's why most would recommend using hardy fish to start cycling the tank. Or you can try fishless cycling instead but it involves pouring pure ammonia into your tank and testing the water chemistry. |

QUOTE(brewoe_1988 @ Mar 26 2013, 05:25 PM) bro my tank just 2 weeks but so far no fish die la...and i just wash my filter yesterday nite... any cheaper option bro, test kit so expensive.... gg.com bro thanks for the picture..will try to upgrade my anti clorin..im now using the API brand ph test kit... You shouldn't wash your filter media if necessary, if really have to, use back the aquarium water to do so or water that has already been conditioned (chlorine & chloramine removed). This is because you'll be destroying the beneficial bacteria (which are in your filter media) that actually help to break down your fish's waste which are harmful. Do upgrade to a filter that has separate filtration systems, like a 2 separate filter cartridges, one for mechanical and one for bio.So, you can wash the mechanical filter without disturbing the bio filter. Also do get those bio rings that has superior surface area for housing even more beneficial bacteria. Put them into the empty spaces of your filter This post has been edited by -kytz-: Mar 26 2013, 05:36 PM |
