Garager,
if you're prepared to spend bout 30mins each day to press thumbar, let plug/weight/lure descend slowly, reel back up and repeat over and over again ... then progressively faster to train your thumb ... say, over a few days then learn basic side and overhand casting techniques and be prepared to not cast far until your arm, eye-thumb coordination has mostly reduced your singchow mai ... i say go for it peng seldom zeng prefer low profile or round? prefer left or right side crank? target fish, salt/fresh? |

inv and viox bros, rotflol ... sad but true .. lololol
sibeh tahan better to spline the naked blank first, mark the guide points since we're doing spiral wrap repeated splining of the naked blank may be needed, to be safe handle can be shaped and pared to be lighter if need be once the handles and reel seat go on ... there's no turning back adi can thin out handles but can't add back on hehehehehhe |

QUOTE(rorytate @ May 10 2013, 01:16 PM) Bro Acheong, aye, rory .. dat's of utmost concern .. lololololThe spine already located for each piece. A sample guide position for BC and spinning also done. Now pending is the guides to arrive to determine the points i mentioned earlier. Since EVA and reel seat does play a role in balancing the rod, totally agreed to your point. NO TURNING BACK POINT... LOL |

QUOTE(faujc99 @ May 11 2013, 04:08 AM) check out daiwa team daiwa rod, pics as below, around RM300. wanted to get one but budget problem, can buy rod but no $$ to buy reel i say get the rod first if you really want it (try bargaining)[attachmentid=3432518] reel can come later or use an existing BC reel on it for the time being lor i like its looks but the ACS trigger kinda gets in the way sometimes This post has been edited by acheong7: May 11 2013, 09:01 AM |

lol .. it really isn't that bad
remember wot i said earlier bout training the thumb? that's training your thumb to 'feather', ie lightly touch the spool ... like an ultralight ABS in action BCs have two parts you need to know well when it comes to casting - clutch/spool control knob - brakes simply put: the clutch determines how loose the spool is ... the looser it is, the easier it is for it to turn and lures go out faster (at this stage, very easy for bihun oso) bihun happens when the spool turns faster than line goes out then when line lay is not good and is loose, when line bites into the rest of the line brakes are for slowing down the spool after a cast ... be it immediately or towards the end of the cast for beginners, if you're using centrifugal brakes, set it three on, three off, alternate them .... one on one off one on one off leave the brakes after setting it .... play around with the clutch to find the drop/fall speed at which you don't mihun .. in the beginning, encouraged to be slower, then let it fall faster as you get used to it. getting used to casting with a looser spool involves educating the thumb to feather the spool as line goes out ... no short cut or two ways bout it ... worth the effort to learn don't need to readjust brakes everytime for now, focus on getting your casts right, not distance distance automatically comes as you get used to it as you get used to it, change the 3-on, 3 off brake setting to 2-on, then 1-on .. then totally off you'd be surprised with the 2-on after using 3-on after some time .. you'll be itching to turn everything off lololol can someone pls chime in for magnetic brakes? desperate for a backup reel, i bought a DAM vittatus magnetic brake BC don't make any difference to me as for the lure weight ... follow the recommended range stated on the rod .. go for the heavier end first, ie 10-25g .. go for the 25g lure and practise with that all the best This post has been edited by acheong7: May 12 2013, 09:10 AM |

QUOTE(wetwetwater @ May 12 2013, 09:35 AM) Yo! I am back! But now in Kemaman, Tganu. i know jefri ... nice chap ... hardcore angler Planning for a sotong trip soon. And perhaps a trip to the offshore platform. Hmm... As for the picture I posted, my guestimate is about 5kgs or so. But hell yeah! That fella was a strong bugger. With my Millionaire at 90% locked drag, it gave me 2-3 runs from the surface. Phewww! It was fun. Just before I came over to Kemaman. That was in Puchong Prima lake. There are boats for rental there. Call this guy Jefri - 013 3556621. Friendly Malay chap. Let him know Kelvin asked to call. However, he only has 1 engine up now and running now as the other 2 broke down. If u know how to handle an outboard then u can go on your own. If not, he will guide you and it happens only when he is free as he has a day job. 3rdly, on the magnetic brakes, I feel that I get better distance on magnetic brakes bc and well, easier to control its settings. IMHO. bought an engine recently |

QUOTE(vioxmonsta @ May 12 2013, 01:46 PM) Come on..its not that hard to start on bc reel !!haha,I mean as if you have the passion for fishing. Baitcasting isnt really hard to pick up..add on theres so many sifu here are willing to share all the knowledge.even if is spinning u'll need practise too.. i remember the times i forget to open bail and then ... c a s t !!!!!practise makes perfect!!! adoi only way to find out whether BCs are more accurate than spinning was to learn and try it out then again, spinning kakis who practice can consistently hit targets my accuracy with a BC was better than spinning even tho i took it up recently |

QUOTE(Garager @ May 13 2013, 12:36 AM) Wah..thanks to sifu acheong lesson.like a life dictionary no sifu la, bro that day i ask my uncle what is the function of this controller(magnetic brake controller),he told me 'no need to set this one, just set the spool speed can d.'where i only know today when i check online that is for controlling the brake. the reel is magnectic brake.the spool speed control no clicker.the brake got clicker and number 0-10,can set half code example 0.5,1,1.5.so i just set the spool speed slower at 1st and set the brake agak-agak? and is it the same teori for setting spool speed/brake when cast a live bait(etc.)keli)? and my uncle told me when cast the rod should stop at 2 o'clock so the lure can go further.and set the spool slower if wind is strong coz the wind will against the line speed.is it correct? read, trial and error and ask friends http://pages.infinit.net/fishing/bait101.htm http://www.fishing-tackle-repair.com/educa...-setup-101.html http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QnIxm9ujVXI http://www.youtube.com/watch?annotation_id...0&v=2ojGnmWU8wI need some trial and error can try setting the brakes between 5-7 then adjust the spool tension knob as in the vids side casts are easier to handle each time we change the lure or bait, we only readjust the spool tension knob leave the brakes as is once confident ... reduce the brakes for increased distance This post has been edited by acheong7: May 13 2013, 01:43 AM |
