Hi,

I'm interested in getting a PS3. Previously just owned a PS1 and PS2. Just have some questions before getting it.

1. I notice some sell 12GB PS3 Slim [Most seller online seems to be out of stock]. Is the 12GB enough for games? If I'm buying all discs, then I straight play from disc correct like PS2? No installing to HDD, right?

2. If it's better to upgrade HDD, what is the maximum size I can get?

3. Suppose I'm playing a game and saved it. Then, my dad wants to play it too. How can he save? Can we create two different accounts? One for me and one for him?

4. Since the PS3 have been discontinued, can I still purchase extended warranty from Sony for new PS3 purchase that I make?

5. I can't seem to find any seller selling PS3 online. Most seemed to stopped selling it or out of stock. Any suggestions as from where I can get them? If it helps, the nearest big city to me is Ipoh.

EDIT:

6. What are the pros/cons of buying used PS3 games?

Thank you.

This model is the one with no HDD one.  You need to buy and install a HDD to install the games.  500GB or 1TB should be OK.  All games install some files to the HDD so you need a HDD no matter what.

2. If it's better to upgrade HDD, what is the maximum size I can get?

1TB should be OK.  Get the notebook sized HDD ones.

3. Suppose I'm playing a game and saved it. Then, my dad wants to play it too. How can he save? Can we create two different accounts? One for me and one for him?

You can create up to 16 PS user ID per PS3.  So if you have one R1 and R3 for yourself and our father thats only 4 user ID.  Still have 12 more to use.

4. Since the PS3 have been discontinued, can I still purchase extended warranty from Sony for new PS3 purchase that I make?

Not sure about this

5. I can't seem to find any seller selling PS3 online. Most seemed to stopped selling it or out of stock. Any suggestions as from where I can get them? If it helps, the nearest big city to me is Ipoh.

Lots of reliable PS3 seller here.  They can post to Ipoh no problem.

EDIT:

6. What are the pros/cons of buying used PS3 games?

Cheap.  But if you want to save, create an Asian R3 ID and get the PS Plus subcription. You get free games to install to your PS3 every month.

Thank you.

Just a a final note, if you have never had a PS3 before this and only now want to re-start gaming, I suggest getting a PS4 instead since the price of a brand new PS4 is very cheap now and not that much different from PS3 price. Check out the PS Plus free games for August 2017

Hi,

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I've never owned a PS3 before. I've considered getting a PS4 instead of PS3, however, I have more games that I want to play/try on that are on PS3. It’s mainly for games like God of War Series, Kingdom Hearts, Devil May Cry series, and Infamous Series. Not to mention the Tomb Raider series, Demon’s Souls, LittleBigPlanet, and Heavenly Sword.

I've contacted Sony Malaysia asking if they do honor extended warranties for new PS3 consoles. They mentioned that they do if the PS3 unit is covered under Sony Malaysia warranty. Any idea how to check if a PS3 is under Sony Malaysia before purchasing it? I've asked them and awaiting reply. The representative also mentioned that the current PS3 price edges towards PS4 slim price and that could be a better option. Still pondering though due to the games I would like to play.

One more question. I read that some games come bundled with codes [usually for some other games/dlc I believe]. If those codes are already used [buying used games], I just have to get the games/dlc separately, correct?

Thank you.

Before you buy anything create a PSN ID first right now and sign up for Asia PS Plus. You can log in using PC and buy the free games for August. Get both PS3 and PS4 free games. Don't forget PS Vita also. Just get every free game available for every console. You never know when you might have a PS4 or PS Vita some day and start regretting the days when you have free PS4 games and did not get them. You can use them as long as you subscribe to PS Plus.

Once that's done you can get a feel of what games you might like. You can get DLC from PS Store but make sure you get the DLC from the same region as the disk copy game you have. Or get the GOTY edition or Deluxe edition. They usually have the codes built in so no need to buy extra.

Hi,

Apologies for the late reply.

One quick question regarding the PS Plus. You mentioned that I can use them as long as I'm subscribed to them. Does that mean it's tied to my ID? If I were to cancel or not renew my subscription, and were to subscribe again in a few months or so, would I still have those free games that I got previous?

Thank you.

Quick answer : Yes.

PS Plus free games are timed license linked to your PSN ID.
When you download a game, it will first download the game's license file with an expiry date.

Once your subscription ended, the free game is still in your PSN account library (and machine if you didn't delete) but with an expired license.
After you renew your subscription anytime later, the timed licenses for PSN free games you have claimed before will be renewed with the latest expiry date.

Any content purchases on PSN will give you to a non-expiry/timed (permanent) license but the purchased content may someday be unavailable for downloading, if Sony decides so.

Great tip, I'm kinda interested in getting ps4 for my son, maybe somewhere May.
I have signed up PSN account and saw a subscription fees of RM129 per year is there cheaper way of getting it, saw a lot selling at ebay.us?.
Since i dont own the PS4 yet, can the free game still belongs to me?

They had a promo last month for RM100. That was the cheapest I've seen for first time subscribers. No need to buy from eBay or online sellers. Sometimes they sell at a higher price. Just go to 7-11 and ask for PS top up. They sell at face value with no markup. So a RM100 top up will cost RM100 and not RM105 or RM110 whatever. Just get the PS+ first. And use PC or the Android app to redeem codes and get the free games.

This month's free games are OK. Since PS+ free games are announced every first Tuesday of the month, you can register on the first Monday of February and immediately get the free games for January before they expire. Then get the free games for February a few days later. Just make sure it R3 ID and not US R1 ID.

Good day,

Recently my ps3 just died with "the appropriate system storage was not found" error. I thought the hard drive is kong already. So get my spare old 20gb 2.5', format it to fat32 in pc 1st and put it in the ps3. But I still get the error. The real problem is I can't enter the recovery menu. It will boot loop into the error message.

Please any otai... any help. Thank you.

P/s: please don't give the 'just buy ps4' as the answer tongue.gif
