Just use USB for the keyboard first then.

Also, important thing to note that even if WiFi doesn't disconnect, it's still comparatively weak!

I used the free USB port extension given by the shop that gives me another four ports though. But I felt that the docking station USB 3.0 is more reliable and doesn't disconnect like the USB port extension.

I got a rapoo keyboard although I prefer the Logitech Bluetooth PS3 keyboard but that's too pricey for me. I do recommend going for the Logitech keyboard because it comes with a touch pad like how a normal laptop does.

I'm not sure about you but my WiFi has been great now ever since I updated to the latest version of the driver. I even sent my unit to Acer for inspection, and so far so good. It's been connecting fine from any point in my home, and friend's home as well.

I am highlighting this because the absence of 3G/SIM card slot is listed under CON/Things to know about this device.

It's Windows, so you screencap by pressing the print screen button then pasting it into paint. but of course you can't reach the print screen button unless you use the FULLER keyboard as mentioned here.

Since the tablet is new, and not as hyped as an "iPad", O doubt there will be any case other than the one provided in Malaysia. Though there's a slight chance there's an international case that you need to import into the country though.

Prefer using it without the leather case, unless bringing the tablet outside then I'll fit into the leather case.
Does anyone here apply screen protector on their w700? I don't put any tongue.gif

I am using it currently. Undoubtedly, it is a handsome device to use at anywhere. I am waiting for better casing with built-in keyboard and touch pad.

Nice display and sound quality.

Yes. RM2199 as listed in brochure plus dock and pouch. Inside the box there's a VGA converter, charging cable and recovery CDs.

It depends what you want to store at your tablet though, I do agree that the space is pretty limited, that's why you can opt for using an external hard disk to store large videos and some minor games. It would be plenty enough if you are staying in the metro apps which I find myself using more than desktop mode. Metro Apps don't consume as much as Desktop apps.

Also, I used the built-in SkyDrive for all my photos and documents, so that it also syncs with my laptop. I did manage to redeem 25GB of space which was a promo for old Microsoft users. That way if I want to view my photos or documents, I just had to open the SkyDrive app while the files don't take up any storage space.

There are many other options such as USB 3.0 storage. Though I'm not sure if Acer themselves offer service to upgrade our SSD, though I know they do offer services to upgrade RAM etc.

Glad you make the choice man smile.gif I didn't regret getting this tablet, the best thing about it is the Full HD display that makes images sharper and crisper, and the build quality which is solid and sexy. I manage to run a few games such as Frozen Throne on the tablet just to try it out, overall I'm happy with this tablet.

Yes, but Acer will be releasing a newer version 218 that is going to fix the issue once and for all. There is a version 221 from a Russian source website that is available too, and according to people, it boosts the WiFi speed. Since mine is already fixed since the last version, I don't think I want to update to the latest 217v3 just to avoid the same problem from occurring again.

How about the battery life compared to an ipad? Can it be around 10hours?

This is a Core i3, not an Atom or ARM, you'll get about 4 hours

just got mine yesterday...somehow...hating it for now. Not the hardware, the software.
question...why do my apps store keep hanging at the apps details. I can't go back to the apps listing if i click 1 of the apps to purchase or to look at the details.

And is there any solution to the storage, other than ssd swap? currently, found a very small usb thumb drive, the size of usb dongle for mouse. But that usb limited to 32gb only. No 64gb so far.

Other than swapping the SSD, cloud storage and external storage, there isn't much option left to choose from. You can wait for the 128GB version that might be release in the future.

No you can't. The CPU isn't socketed but soldered to the motherboard itself.

Yes for changing the SSD manually to 240GB.
And don't think it's possible in changing the CPU unless you are willing to risk it.

Saw that, Acer Germany, Canada and Australia has started to replace the dock with keyboard case. Here's the pic and it is being discussed here.

I'm really confused now, should I purchase it now with the dock or wait till the keyboard case is released. I will be using the Tablet as my desktop, laptop and tablet during my general outing. Can someone please help me biggrin.gif

I bought a used ICONIA W700 from mudah.my. Full package but no recovery CD's. I asked the Acer service centre to get that CDs, unfortunately they cannot provide it or sell it. So, could anybody in this forum help me to upload those recovery CDs or how much if I have to buy it from you? (pls don't be expensive smile.gif ).

Thank you.

What type of charging port is this tablet using?

Is it possible to use the power bank to recharge while on the go or use an in-car charger? How about the charging adaptor? is it bulky?

No the adapter is not bulky at all and it is very portable. In fact, Acer's ultrabook such as the Aspire S7 uses the same adapter and charging port.

Only Atom Clovertrails can be recharged by a 5V power bank, and out of those the ones that I know of which can do so are
- Dell Clovertrail Slate (can't remember the name)
- Lenovo Lynx

ACER Australia is selling them for 119 Aus, convert over is RM380.
http://www.acerstore.com.au/acer/store/ind...keyboard-1.html

By the way, other countries are starting to pack in the Bluetooth cover into the W700 package, just that the previous dock is now being omitted.

Guys, check out Live Updater again, there's another newer v218 and a sensor patch than the old 218. I just updated and I think it is better. Will try to surf the web to test out more tomorrow again.

Previously, the W700 came with the docking cradle and brown leather protective case. (In Malaysia, we don't get the Bluetooth keyboard together with the cradle but in US they do).

Now, the package is Greyish protective case with embedded Bluetooth keyboard instead of cradle & leather case. I am writing this reply with my W700 using the embedded keyboard. It suits my purpose well but may not be suitable for everyone as it adds some weight to the overall package.

At the moment, the keyboard case is not available for separate purchase (for whatever reason I do not understand).

Looks cool , if I could have delayed my purchase for a day or two, I might be able to get it with the keyboard. Anyway, I have purchased the Logitech Tablet keyboard for my daily use.

By the way, the recovery DVD is the System DVD that comes in the box right? We don't have to create and burn a set, correct me if I'm wrong?

Yes, the System DVD is the only bootable disc inside your W700. You can use it for a full factory reset.

Nice package, wish I had waited!

Why did you pay 2,600 when the retail price is 2,199?
Are the specs different from i3 (sandy bridge) and 64gb ssd?

400 for the pen and keyboard case seems a lot...but looks like it's worth it.
Any change in the specs?

sorry if this sounds noobish... but won't a 11.6" screen protector covers the display screen only? It won't cover the black bezel, right?

Yup.
In that case, what you are looking for is not only the screen protector, but a whole set of laptop / tablet skin smile.gif
Try to search for armourone in LYN garage sales forum, and see if they get anything for you smile.gif

400 for the pen and keyboard case seems a lot...but looks like it's worth it.
Any change in the specs?
*
Yep there is a slight change in spec (updated in the first page about a week ago). The dock and leather case is not supposed to be included in the that package.

However, I am unsure whether the RM2.6k W700 is an international or local set hmm.gif
or, maybe Acer change the package, again. doh.gif

Like all my devices, I like them to be naked. The front screen is Gorilla Glass 2, so it is pretty much scratch resistance.
For some reason, the shop people also advised me not to put screen protector on this device sweat.gif

Hi...planning to buy an Iconia W700 soon.
Anyone can tell me whether Malaysian set has embedded keyboard already or not?
And how about the wifi performance? Some says it's weak. (I mean weak in receiving wifi signal).

Yes, it has a Bluetooth keyboard embedded in the cover.
Maybe Acer has fixed the WiFi performance on the new set, either way you can fix it via driver update.

Will the retail RM2199 one still got the leather case?.
Is the RM2600 is the one with the case + Bluetooth keyboard one?

I wonder why Acer didn't provide changing the SSD service?
Now nee to wait until the warranty is over before i can change the SSD myself... sad.gif

Yes. Do note on the processor: the old comes with 1.4GHz, the new one is 1.5GHz. And do note on the battery life.

The new set does NOT comes with a leather case but with a heavier case with embedded keyboard.

Meanwhile the one with RM2.6k is not sold in Malaysia but at Thailand. It comes with the case with keyboard, stylus, dock.

So.. now what's the retail price?
RM 2199 or 2600? (sorry.. still a bit confuse..)

RM 2199 - Tablet + case (+embedded keyboard)
RM 2600 - Tablet + Keyboard + Stylus + Dock

the keyboard in both package is different?

Tried increase the DPI a bit.. if things are too small..

But after a few days, and some minor tweaks.. i can get things done quite easily with fingers only...
Altho sometimes it takes times to get certain jobs done..
like need the extra click to brings out the touch keyboard when filling up something.... and with the default keyboard layout... some things can't be done... (no windows key, cannot click ctrl+shift together, no tab key.. and stuff like that...)

And does anyone notice.. Chrome will be laggy when opening sites with lotsa big images... compared to the IE.. which is pretty darn smooth...

I'm using Logitech keyboard and mouse where sometimes the bluetooth mouse is not detected on the computer where I have to switch off/on the mouse or restart the tab to get it work on my W700.

Any idea on how to solve this problem?

I also bought one recently. I found problems below:

1. When I click on something (using fingers), that thing come out slowly (perhaps lagging 1~2 secs). It happens to everything I clicked.

2. The battery meter cannot correctly estimate my battery time.

Can any share whether you all experience these as well?

I've tested it today at a store.

Performance was pretty zippy, despite a measly Sandy Bridge i3.
Screen is nice, at 1080p with IPS tech, it displays crispy and colorful images.
Weight is not as bad i imagined.

CONS - hardware windows button sometimes doesnt register the press, i need to press it firmly for the second time to ensure that it recognizes that im pressing it.
Not all stores sell it with the new embedded keyboard case. with no prop-up case, using it is almost impossible on a desk when you're out

UPDATE

I've installed back the drivers using the one at Acer's website [before this I used the ones from Intel's website] and scrolling is much smoother than before. In Chrome and Firefox it's around 45FPS but in IE it's 60FPS all the time. I hope Acer will release an update that will finally resolve this issue. biggrin.gif

Yes. It is a full fledged PC afterall...
I only tried Portals and Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne on it.

I'm more to reading the web instead of gaming.

That is a capacitive touch pen, obviously it will work. What I mean is it doesn't have active digitizer (wacom and such) like Samsung ATIV

For everyone interested in the W7.. there seems to be an incoming P3 which shares physical similarities but trades offf some stuff in terms of specs.

Picture taken by camera hardly noticed and need to be seen in real eye and the difference is significant.

Will take it warranty tmr as today is rest day for service center.

Dunno what causes it.... likely manufacturing defect.

The biggest good point of w7 is the screen but it's failed on me. doh.gif

They'll fix the screen for you, just have to wait probably around a week or two. (Source: experience)

The W700 uses the same adapter as the Aspire S7 and other Acer ultrabooks, so there must be some accessories sold by shop/ Acer to customers. You can try e-mailing Acer asking them about this.

Ah my laptop just died. Should i get an acer iconia w700 as replacement? I mostly do web surfing (i can VNC to do computational stuff on my desktop). question:

1. what is the current package like? RM2199 for pouch (the brown thing) and a bluetooth keyboard right?

2. can we actually upgrade the ram? 4gb is plentiful for now but I foresee more ram is required in future.

W700 already is an EOL product, current price is RM1999. Be sure to get it fast, because it is replaced by the inferior speced P3.

To those contemplating W700 vs P3,

I am using a W700 here, n I am pretty happy with it.
It has a nice full hd screen , that's a plus.
Looks like Acer cut down the hardware specs on the P3 except the cpu which is a ivy bridge n the tablet is slightly lighter in weight.

Lower resolution lcd panel
Lower ram at 2gb
Ssd size smaller at 60gb

For a device that is hard to upgrade the specs ourselves , that makes the P3 a hard sell at it's current configuration n it's pricing. Even if it is equipped with a i5 cpu in upcoming version, I will think twice abt it unless Acer restore back the rest of the specs as per the W700 n without charging a hefty price for it.

Essentially Acer is cutting down cost here n there wit the P3 !!!!

Currently the model listed is an i3 Aspire P3, the specs of the i5 version is yet unannounced.
According to Acer, the i5 version will come with a better specification such as 4GB RAM on board.

Cheers.

I thought p3 i5 will come around this month?

what I concern is about the performance of graphic card hd3000/4000 and i3M series/ i5Y series.

is it huge performance different between this?

worth for rm300 and wait for p3 i5

According to Acer, yes it will be around this month but the date is yet unknown.
The i5Y will definitely have a better integrated graphic card (HD4000).
Both graphic cards will handle HD playback just fine.

Running torrent can get 4-5 hours I think is quite good right? hmm.gif Will consider this but hoping for an updated version. Sandy bridge is too old now.

No sounds coming out, but if put with earpiece then can hear sounds.

drivers already up to date.

all the volume setting have been switch on.

even the dolby sofware show the music wavelenth while the i play song.

occasionally, like restart computer 50 times, 1 time the sounds will come back, but lost again on the next restart.

no changes in setting or what so ever.

Anyone encounter the same problem?

You can try hard reset to see if the problem is resolved. Or else, this is a hardware problem, I guess you have to send your device to Acer Service Centre in your area. sad.gif

hello, everyone here, can i know 64 gb storage enought for normal working not for game, music and movie,,just do some document internet browser ,,,enought for it ?and this device  using i3 will and small storage will it going to lack or not smooth while doing multi tasking?thank advice..and where can i buy the pen ?
*
It is sufficient for me, I have installed MS Office 2013, Adobe Reader, a Diptrace software, VLC, tons of Metro UI app on my tablet, while keeping Documents, PDF files, and am currently at 21GB.

It is smooth enough for the said task above. As for me, I'm typing these texts with my web browser, Spotify and MS Document open, and it is still working fine.

Any Capacitive Pen will work on this tablet (etc those on iPad and Android tablet, but not Wacom Digitizer).

PS: This is my experience on the older W700 model.

Just got my p3 at klcc "challenger" member price it's only 2109 free extra 2+1 yr warranty,Bluetooth keyboard with case and pendrive..

Mine is i5 4gb 60gb ...but without 1080 screen .. sad.gif
If any1 need a large storage to play game or music .I suggest a external usb3.0 hdd , Bluetooth or wifi mouse(Hp Wi-Fi touch mouse x7000) so that free your usb slot for external hdd.

Do you guys know w700 case can use on p3 ???
The ori casing so heavy for me sad.gif

Sound logic, if W700 still selling at RM 1999 and who gonna buy the lower spec P3 at selling price RM 1799 & 1999?

Whoever need the higher spec with better screen resolution, then need to pay for the high end model.

W700 has excellent fullhd screen. Sometimes very hard to touch the tiny button when in fullhd res especially in desktop mode.

Battery can last 5-6 hrs normal usage. The only thing which dun really like is the almost 1kg w700 tablet body. A bit heavy to my liking.

The lack of SDcard slot is the real turn off as the SSD space is quite limited. LCD screen once spoiled and replaced under warranty in just 4 days. icon_rolleyes.gif

Overall is good machine.

Overall is quite good but a bit heavy, I seldom bring out, so no issue.

Never experience 7-8 hours, 4-5 hours got la...

It's a real good buy imho.

You can scale up your desktop to fit the 1080p screen, here's how: Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Make text and other items larger and smaller; then scale it up to the largest. Now everything is larger while remain sharp and HD quality., this is one of the cool new Windows 8 feature.

8.1 coming soon will do much more.
Cheers smile.gif

For the keyboard or mouse, its better to get the bluetooth version as the USB version will used up the one and only usb port available in the w700 body. Unless u dock it.

I found that stylus with a metal mesh tip (I think boxwave and other makes) works best.
Much better than normal rubber tips and skips less than a jot pro tip.

Which annotation or note programs do you use?

I bought another brand where the tip goes in to the barrel like a biro but here's the link for the boxwave one:

http://www.boxwave.com/stylus/evertouch-ca...ylus/bwpds/mpk/

fiber mesh tip...much better than rubber and is actually accurate and not too broad.

The problem is the digitiser itself doesn't recognise very small writing.
I've tried adonit and the fiber mesh one worked best for me

interesting feedback...may i ask what's your main usage for the stylus? I normally have pdf files that i review, ie proof reading, circling words and commenting aka more like how a teacher goes thru exam papers. do you think this stylus would suit my usage style? cos my main issue with the broad rubber based tip ones, is that i find it hard to write like how i would with a pen.

Yes, I do the same thing.
Of course a digitiser would be much better esp as there's palm rejection, but it's not bad.
I saw the free adobe reader has a good markup tool now btw.

It does come with MS Office 2010 /2013 Trial that you need a key to activate it.

The free full version of Microsoft Office 2013 will only be preinstalled in smaller tablet forms such as 7" or 8". Anything above 10" screen requires purchase of the software.
Currently, there is only one tablet at such form factor which is the Acer Iconia W3, though there might be more in the future by other manufacturers. Especially when Windows 8.1 with better scaling and improvements is released.

You start off to reformat your tablet by inserting the System Disc first.

To access BIOS, you can also tap the Settings charm > Change PC settings > General. Under "Advanced startup", tap Restart now. The "Choose an option" screen displays. Tap Turn off your PC."
Once your PC is turn off, press Windows key + Power button until Acer screen shows up, then release it immediately.

In BIOS, disable Secure boot and change boot priority to DVD USB Drive. Save and exit.

Next, put your System Disc, then follow on-screen instruction which requires you to change disc to Recovery Disc 1 , 2, etc along the way.
