Dear fellow Lowyatians, currently I have a fren who is suffering from this illness. She is currently on medication but I feel that if she keeps relying on medication, it'll be worst for her health. I read from wikipedia that this is a type of mental illness. And mosly occurs on women. I am worried of her. And I'm here to seek guidance on successful ways to overcome this illness.

Please be careful to take the words of our fellows here. While they may be completely good-minded, their advices may not suitable to your circumstances.

Panic attack is different from anxiety disorder. Both of which are mental illnesses. I cannot imagine how is the condition of your friend but it is not easy for a 3rd party to identify unless you are a trained doctor.

Environment usually plays a role in triggering such illnesses. Even though you are on the right medication (please get used to changes in medication as specialists are themselves experimenting with various drugs to find a right balance which work), a way to harmonically work with your environment must be found.

To answer your question about whether taking medication will make her worse. As said earlier, it is a form of illness. I hope you have done enough reading on this. As in all form of illnesses, medication is frequently used for treatment. What is of concerned is the side effects. The side effects can be weakness and drowsiness in milder forms. If you are able to find a way to handle the causes better and do without medication, then do so. Don't take too long.

I will not waste much effort and money in the clinic if no result is seen after a while. It is better to treat the illness early rather than later. I would go straight to a psychiatrist. I would also work on ways to relax myself and deal with the environment.

All the best!

Make her busy and do something, since activity keeps your mind off your anxiety. When you wake up in the morning, start doing something right away, and keep busy all day. Cleaning the house, washing the dishes or working in your garden, reading, studying, meditating, or exercising your body can help you keep your mind away from anxiety. Staying idle, and thinking about your problems and worries won't make them go away.

Talk to her about her anxiety problem.Talking about your anxieties and feelings can alleviate them, and put them in the right proportions, provided you talk objectively, and with a real desire to get rid of your anxiety, or at least reduce its intensity.

Exercising your body and staying fit, is a good way to keep fears and anxieties away. You can walk, swim, do yoga, aerobics, or any other sport. You can accompany her if u want.

Find reasons to laugh. This will bring light and happiness into your life, and drive anxiety away. Watch comedies on TV, be with happy and amusing friends, or read something that makes you laugh.

I have anxiety too, playing computer game would be my option to reduce it.Besides that, I always talk about my problems to someone I trust.I find it better to overcome it.

Stress is one of the reason.. Different people tolerate and handle stress differently which means your stress intake could be more than me does not mean you are prone to anxiety attack also..

Try to ask her to do the things she like to do.
By doing so, it will help calm down her anxiety.
Keep trying new hobbies that will suit her well.

Try to lower the stress level.

Do sports help alot for me biggrin.gif Running for me.

Good Luck !

Same goes to me. I was a happy kid. Stress-free. Care-free. Not until when I sat for SPM and some serious family issue came up at same time. It all started there.

Today, I do have eating disorder especially around with people I'm not close with while I only get comfy around family members. So, its not so severe for me. Same goes to anxiety attack. It happens to me on and off. So I tried to overcome it by mixing around more often actually. I start off with people whom I'm close with like family members. Am already in my 2nd year of working. Things won't get better if you stay at home do nothing. Hope this helps. smile.gif
