I'm still abit confused about asia miles. When i check on the web, i get like 3 different type of amounts. are you guaranteed a seat while exchaging on the lowest tier? or is it not confirmed and require waiting list?

I checked through the award finder last week (had about 100k asia miles to redeem) but i see all the business class flight from kul to cdg is full.. even up to 1 week before and after the dates i want to fly..

not really. for flights that i want to take, they have availability on saver ticket category.

On top of that, they fly to more destination, using newer planes with better seats...

I took one flight on mas to Bali on J class.... it's totally not worth the price at all.. seats feel more like economy premium and service with sulky face... Can't blame the staff as they were on high stress period with all the transition.. but the hard product needs lots of improvement.

MAS revamping their A330 business class.. finally..

Thomas bringing Aer Lingus DNA into MAS.... the seats are similar to what's on Aer Lingus... Kinda weird arrangement though..

very funny la... i check enrich redemption for KUL - ICH and KUL - NRT... both enrich amt required same.. but the taxes so much different. For two pax, Seoul costs RM 1.8k in tax and surcharge.. for Narita, it only cost RM 380 for 2 pax.. wtf?

For Seoul, there's fuel surcharge.. for Narita, no fuel surcharge... wtf??

QUOTE(Gen-X @ Nov 20 2015, 10:19 AM)
Someone commented at my blog - "I keep hearing OCBC promoting the OCBC Voyage Card "The 1st Metallic Credit Card In Malaysia". Went to their website and found 0 information about it although the radio ad keeps telling us to check out ocbc.com.my.

Have you heard about it and have the scoops on it?"

You guys know me lah - I got nothing better to do always eager to assist anyone in need on matters relating to credit cards, haha. So I did a mini review for his sake and for those who are thinking of signing up for the OCBC Premier Voyage Miles MasterCard.

And what I concluded is that the OCBC Premier Voyage Miles MasterCard is the best credit card for those who wants bragging rights.

So, I incorporated a mini review of the OCBC Premier Voyage Miles into my Best Top 10 Credit Cards in Malaysia 2016 article.

Without further ado, click here to read my Mini Review of the OCBC Premier Voyage MasterCard (scroll down to Conclusion).

so far my experience with MBB premier call line for their premier cards are top notch... all my conversion are credited the next day and the longest i've waited on their call line is 3 rings... 3 FREAKING RINGS!.

Other banks would've happily let me wait 10 minutes to speak to their customer service agent, Maybank actually apologized to me for having me wait for that 3 rings (this is after selecting the type of card used).

QUOTE(jtl @ Mar 17 2016, 10:51 AM)
I need some advice on points redemption. I am contemplating making a trip to Vancouver in Dec 2017 and would like to ask on the best credit card to redeem points (on whichever airline)

Am no eligible for the Maybank Premier card, so can scratch that off the list. How does the One World alliance work? Can I use my Enrich points to redeem flights on Cathay Pacific?

Have a few big purchases coming up and am a little confused on which credit card to charge them to in order to work towards redeeming flights for this trip. I currently hold M2C Plat, MBB Krisflyer, Ambank World, PBB Visa Signature, CIMB Cash Rebate and HLB GSC cards.

Any advice would be much appreciated

From your list, looks like MBB Krisflyer and Ambank World are your two best card to earn FFP. Good thing is Ambank also transfers to SQ Krisflyer so your best bet is to stick with SQ and *A.

For myself, i'm also planning a trip to Vancouver but using Enrich to redeem OW flights on either CX or JL. Both have daily flights to Vancouver but CX availability rather depends on luck.. Was told that it's hard to get a seat for now because most of AA FFP are redeeming up their miles before the devaluation. I prefer CX or JL because they've removed the fuel surcharge fee. I only need to pay about RM 700-900 on tax for 2 pax while on SQ, the tax can go up to RM 3k for long distance flight.

advantage of being in Krisflyer is that you can redeem SQ Suites... once in a lifetime experience for people like us..

QUOTE(jtl @ Mar 17 2016, 11:44 AM)
Won't I earn more points on MBB 2 Plat Amex if I were to redeem Amex? Correct me if my calculations are wrong

1,000 Asia Miles - 7,420 treat points (Spending of RM1,484.00 on Amex)
1,000 Asia Miles - 5,000 Ambank Points (Spending of RM5,000 on Ambank World)
*
You are correct. however, from my own personal experience, it's hard to use AMEX in Malaysia with most vendors taking Visa & Master. With the upcoming devaluation of TP on a number of categories for AMEX, it's even harder to earn points.

At least for MB Krisflyer card, the redemption rate is still fixed. RM 2 = 1 SQ Miles.

You need to take into account how much of your spending that can be charged to AMEX and how much is charged to VISA or Mastercard. Everyone's spending pattern is different and you'll need to see which suits you more. My own experience, most of my big purchases are work expenses and most of the shops i have to go don't take AMEX. I do charge quite abit on utilities on AMEX but that is soon out of the window..

So, if I wanna fly CX or JAL, my best bet would be to sign Amex where possible and the Ambank when Amex isn't? Then I can use both points to redeem either AM or EM?
*
yea. based on what you have, M2P amex where possible. The risk of splitting payment is it's harder to reach the threshold required for redemption (7,420 for TP and 5,000 for ambank per 1000 AM/Enrich/KF.

JAL is not direct redemption for AM and Enrich. You'll need to call the redemption center. Don't know about CX call center, but for MH, it kinds sucks at the moment with long call wait times unless you call at ungodly hours.

the amount looks correct. i've check enrich redemption on OW flight (JAL and CX) from KUL to YVR requires 144k miles return. The difference is the tax.

Off topic abit, can you book the flight on JAL on Asia Miles? In office now hence don't want to launch the asia miles website.. later colleague think i'm too free can fly here fly there..

KUL to YVR requires transit either in NRT (For JAL) or HKG (For CX).

Alternatively, why not just keep ur miles in Enrich cos from time to time Enrich will have extra 10% bonus miles offer with banks. Asia miles doesn't have that.
