Hi guys,

needs some help from you guys on deciding the subwoofer wiring.

i have 2 units of 10" 4ohm sub (rated at 250W) and i am currently looking for an amp to power up the sub.

i have 2 choices of powering up the sub.

1. 300w x 2 at 4ohm which mean i power each individual sub with 300W

2. 750W x 1 at 2ohm which means i will parallel wire the sub to 2 ohm and use a monoblock to power up the sub

which would give a more ideal sound?

will 4 ohm sound better than 2 ohm? how would the ohm change the sound signature?

lower ohms will give you:

1. half damping factor
2. 2 times more distortion
3. 2 times more energy loss
4. etc etc.

But yeah... thats just the theory of it... Who cares anyway... pff...

It depends on ur budget and someother factors. Mono class D are more efficient and u have 750W while ur subs need 500w so it's always good to have extra headroom for ur amps to keep ur gains down.

For option 1 u r talking about opting for a 2ch amp rt....a 2ch amp that gives 300W per ch at 4 ohm is gonna cost u a bomb and secondly these 2ch amps are not as efficient as class D means they draw a lot of current.

In my opinion option 2 is the way to go.

Get a 1000w monoblock (about 500 w at 2 ohms).
Wire ur subs in parallel to the monoblock and u will get 2 ohms, so 500w divide 2 u get 250w@2ohms to each sub

I am doing that setup too soon
but i am going for two 12" subs running at 900w@2ohms
as soon as i come back to KL and buy the stuffs i need
Anyway, i am a self-confessed basshead, if u r going into SQ dun listen to me biggrin.gif

tomolo i go shop for a subwoofer box biggrin.gif

thanks guys....i have chosen my amp....went for the DLS A6

got it second hand for bout 1.8k....

the damping factor is not very high but it sound decent

i think at 2ohm, monoblock would still sound decent

i recently tried my friend's car who is running at 1ohm...he was boasting that his sub is dual voice coil and he ran both the sub parallel...and his american sound produce 3kW+ at 1ohm...the sound was terrible....everything was out of control even with such high power....maybe it was the setting but it just didnt sound right
