Review on Ultra Racing Mid Bar

I been looking at various ways to improve the handling of my beloved Orange Prius C, no doubt the handling for such a small car is good , however I don't feel confident going in to corners without slowing down or pressing the brakes. Then i saw this ultra Racing group buy on Prius C Club Facebook, and read a few comments to try the Mid Bar for Prius C that supposedly improve cornering ability. I been using number of UR bars for my Cars both Front and ARB which improves a lot of the car handling by reducing body roll and flex

After installation below are the review after using it for about 2 weeks now ..

Straight Line
No noticeable improvement in Handling in straight line as the Mid Bar is meant for reducing body roll.

Changing Lanes
I felt that changing lane the car is a lot more composed and didn't felt any body roll or swaying.

Corners
I can corner the car more confidently , less body roll especially on corners heading in to the highway (e.g LDP to KESAS , MEX highway towards KL) previously has to brake a bit while going down those ramps and corners. However the effect is not as good as installing front strut bar and anti-roll, but still a BIG improvement over the stock handling.

Bumps
The cars feels more stable when going to the bump , no wobbly feeling and body roll.(There was one incident i went over a high bump too fast and hit the bar as it is positioned lower then the car under carriage)

Verdict : For such a small price (RM75) it is a worthwhile upgrade to give the little prius c more fun, might want to install this first try it out , if need more install Front Strut and Rear Anti Roll, for me as a daily use car the mid bar is sufficient, downside .. felt that the car is under powered now yawn.gif  (psychologically) need more power for more fun as the car is more stable now .. LOL .. icon_rolleyes.gif

what a coincidence. Happened to me too.
my car in sec 19 SC but they say only can check on Monday. Appreciate if you can share the  diagnosis.
*
same, monday can know. Mine was sent to sc ytd (Friday) and my car was run till 60k KM

I guessed we have the same problem. at which mileage your car shown this indicator/message?

QUOTE(Phc @ Feb 15 2014, 12:19 PM)
Did you just send for your car to service or ?? If they forgot to close the service indicator after they service it, then the warning light will come out, which is probably your case since the light gone after that.
*
after 10k km, i self-service for engine oil

QUOTE(Kiding @ Feb 15 2014, 02:30 PM)
looks like Prius C may face the similar issue its big brother had  shocking.gif  shakehead.gif

http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2...recall/5414055/
*
most probably cuz we came from the same hybrid technology/family but hopefully everything will be ok.

Guys, just be careful with your car when your car reached 50k km - 60k km cuz for the past 2-3 weeks, i can feel my car unusual. The mileage (xkm/l) will keep on dropping when i drive at super hot weather, then car respond is like very cacat, not the usual smooth respond, power really loss out ALOT like what mentioned in the link shared above but the message finally shown when i driving at jam road ytd (spoiled all my valentine's plan cuz i was about to go and collect my present sad.gif )

Will keep you guys update on Monday

inverter failure.

I'm not sure if it's inverter failure but most likely, we only can take wild guess here.

When the message pop up, I was still stuck in the middle of jam at the far right lane, so I drove another 200m only found safe road side to stop. During that 200m, there was once my car suddenly shut down and then power on, I have step on the brake and press the start button to continue driving

Inverter failure is the worst case senario. Lets hope you just have a faulty 12v battery and some connector problem.
*
what is inverter failure?

is that cost a lot?

If you still under warranty then ok . No need to pay a single cent. If warranty over, then i guess you need to prepare at least RM 15-20k .
*
ok...warranty already void

if like that i sell off the car then

You better discuss with SC about the problem 1st. Outside not much people and 2nd hand shop willing to take in 2nd hand hybrid as they dont have the expertise in this tech.
*
Actually if (touch wood) is this, what causing inverter failure?

Last time my Vios also I service outside but my sterling rack was broken, I still can claim warranty. I just tell I service engine oil myself and this problem was not cause by my engine oil.

So may be I still can use the same thing to tell them, since normal service doesn't impact the hybrid system

QUOTE(NewGUY @ Feb 16 2014, 11:44 PM)
thanks for the info

Did u change ur air filter?

Previously u said u use the oil until very long until how many k? i believe is more than 10k...
What engine u using?

any self modification?

did u notice ur hybrid system coolant low?

when you buy your car?

There is a owner already reach 50k, his car is very responsive and mileage no complain...

hot weather engine response sure slow...

If that sluggish i think 3 yrs back owner for 1.8 already point out in other forum, when break down only been mention here....I m sure u ll ask the other owners whether they feel or not? I remember u mention u r busy with personal stuffs but if the mileage get below 15km/l, i guess u start worry and find some answers...

mind to share?? hope u dun mind me ask a lot....

I m almost reach 41k a bit concern here....
*
1. Retriever is the brand. I don't think many of u heard before but i have been using it since my Vios to now my current Prius c and my civic FD. Our local rally champ (that Singh guy) advertised this before

2. Around 15k and the engine oil quality still nice. You can try run your car till 12k km and go service, ask the service to let u see the oil quality and you will know how well hybrid can be to keep the engine oil still at good condition even exceeded the targeted km limit

3. Air filter changed once and about to change to high flow cuz waiting stock to arrive

4. Hybrid coolant still at the top level

5. My car almost 2 years in 2 months time. I'm the very first batch owner for Prius C in Malaysia

6. Self mod - anti roll bar, spring buffer, and I lifted up my bonnet a bit.

QUOTE(Phc @ Feb 16 2014, 11:51 PM)
For electrical component , is all about luck. No reason of how and why it gone wrong. Right now only overheat the inverter will shorten the inverter life, but usually inverter coolant 200k km only need to change. So maybe there is a problem with your inverter coolant pump. The pink color thing.
*
May be, cuz I check everytime I changed my engine oil, and the level still at top.

Anyway, no wild guess, let just be positive and see what's the result of the diagnosed tmr. Another member also have the same fate as me

If indeed is what you mentioned, it is up to UMW or Toyota Japan to throw the ball and ask for recall.

Sure. False alarm only. Because you self service your own car. Thats why the master light will come out after a certain km. If you send your car to them service, around 40k km , they will do whole diagosis for you, and automatically remove the service interval warning message. You car itself think your have not been to diagosis, so your car scare and all warning light come up. As what I said in the 1st .
*
why you know all this while the sc doesn't know this? technician still want to check so many things rclxub.gif

but if you said it's false alarm, why my car engine can suddenly off then on back again while i was trying to stop at road side. when i stopped at road side and never drive, the car won't die off rclxub.gif

I think you qualify as technician more than them thumbup.gif

collected my car

had a short chat with the technician, he told me that:

1. there are 2 error codes required for checking - so they proceed to check my fuel system, intake manifold, oil pressure etc etc. Everything was fine. Then he cleared off that 2 error codes

2. he said i have one minor mod which involved eletcrical - my brake lock (locktech). So he said may be that causing but he can't confirmed.

conclusion: my car is nothing. after reset my hybrid, all my previous data was gone (records on my driving) BUT surprisingly my car now smoother..hahahahah

Genuine cabin filter just walk in to any sc can get at spare part department .if oem lowyat garage got seller . Outside shop can get Piaa or denso brand

Wing hin... They are supplier spare part to toyota

Regarding my issue, I'm still not satisfy of what they told me and force to re-service my car with them to keep track. So I use my friend's volt meter to test my 12v battery and apparently my battery is at weak level but sc never even check my battery condition. So decided to go and change battery already.. To bigger size NS60 cuz I can't stand with NS40

Bro are u sure Prius c battery difference with normal type
*
QUOTE(Kiding @ Feb 22 2014, 11:42 PM)
Prius C 12V battery is bit different than other after market 12V batteries, as it is located in the back seats, normal battery will release hydrogen gas to the air if overcharged, which is dangerous if it is released in the car cabin such as in the case of Prius C, which could lead to explosion. Prius C 12V battery has vent tube to guide hydrogen gas to outside.
*
Yes, I know that. Many euro cars have their battery attached at the back, so no issue finding the similar type

QUOTE(smliu @ Feb 23 2014, 10:25 AM)
How long is your Prius c and mileage? What is the voltage showed when you considered a weak battery? NS40 is rather small, NS60 is a better option. Do check with battery shop expert the differences.
Your information will help us to alert on battery, thanks.
*
my mileage? read previous post...62k KM already (going 2 years in 2 months time)

the reading is around 10-11, which is quite weak.

gonna touch the electrical mod for this time...install a battery volt meter for monitoring purpose!

Thanks for the info, I am very forgetful. A battery can last for >2 years is great. I normally will change the battery 1.5 years. Original battery from new car normally do well and lasting but not those replacement. 10~11 voltage is definitely weak, time to change a new one, don't hesitate and delay further.
Battery volt meter installation is not adviseble. There is plug in volt meter for this purpose in the market, which you can consider.
*
60K KM in almost 2 years. One of my friend who is working in Toyota (spare part dep) already said that i drive till that far mileage, the battery is worth back every penny already and ask me to change it ASAP as i am traveling between Cyber and KL, he worry one day the light will on again and the car stopped while i am cruising MEX highway with 120km/h, that will be more dangerous than anything

yes, that one straight plug in lighter hole but my lighter hole was occupy by camera.

gonna buy extension lighter hole rclxms.gif
