QUOTE(howjimmy @ Feb 11 2009, 03:14 AM)
hi im thinking of creating my own htpc, im torn in between reusing my parts from my current pc to convert it into a htpc or whether to sell off the whole thing and buy all the parts from scratch, my parts are

MSI 945GM3
Intel E2160
Winfast PX7600GS
2GB RAM
Trendsonic T-450ATX powersupply

i'll mostly be using it for BTing and watching HD movies, although i might be using it to play some games, although this isnt really a priority because im on a budget.

Another thing is, my transfer speed is really slow, like when im transferring documents/music to my thumb drive... is this because of the power supply or something reason? im using usb 2.0.

So what do u guys think? i went over to a computer shop near my place and they were like "ah! change everything!" their advice wasnt very credible tongue.gif

I can't comment much on the specs. But as for the pendrive, what brand and model are you using?

• Supports FSB 1066/800/533MHz
• Supports EIST technology
• Supports Intel Hyper-Threading technology
• Supports Intel Dual Core Technology to 800MHz and up

haha i hate to be ignorant... but i cant really understand all that sad.gif
it says that it supports socket 775 and the intel e7400 is socket 775.. so by my understanding, it should be alright... right?

On second thoughts, do you have your manual with you? You could have a look through it. I am sure it mentions something about the CPU support.

Yeah, what lex said is right. The G31 would support more CPUs than the current 945G.

My HTPC has come, but I used lots of recycled hardware

Pentium D 820
1Gb Corsair XMS2
80GB SATA2 Seagate
Gigabyte 965P-DS3
LiteOn 20x DVD Write

The noise generated from the CPU cooler is enough to destroy the ambiance. I will also put a TV tuner into the mix.

RAM is very cheap nowaday.. should add another 1GB to your system  rclxms.gif
Maybe u can consider to buy another processor which suit your mobo.. I think the new Pentium dual core can fit on your mobo.(not too sure)They are low price and low heat/power..

RAM will be added on. But it will have to run in single channel mode.
The Pentium DC can fit. No problems there. It is a very likely upgrade as well.

btw, I'm running a stock 7300GS

Add 1GB of RAM

Add TV Tuner - get Hauppague MCE-150 if you plan to record ASTRO shows and use Windows Media Center !

TV tuner will be "obtained" from another rig of mine. brows.gif

Guys, I need some help.

I thrown the Compro into my HTPC. It has an FM Tuner, but I can't seem to receive any channels. I have plugged in the needed cables, but still nothing.

I'm using Win7's Media Center. Drivers were obtained by selecting "Automatically Search For Drivers".
