Has anyone here managed to bypass HD audio (DTS-HD / Dolby True-HD) via HDMI to their receivers? From what I've been googling, it seems that only the Asus Sonar card can achieve that feat but its a pretty pricey card.

Anyone else willing to share their success story? If it can be done, I can consider getting a Blu-ray drive for my HTPC.

Thanks in advance!

no other choice unless you want to deliver 8 channel LPCM to AVR, letting your AVR just to amplify and drive the speaker.

Hi guys, im using compaq presario v3412 as my starter trial, dunno can i call HTPC or not, LOL... connecting to a cheap 21" sony trinitron tv by using S-video to RCA.using a 2.1 speaker(quite big and can be listen la). This is just a test model for room usage.

so guys,my question is, why do my tv have blurry outputs?my graphic card problem, or the method using S-video to RCA just have that low quality?

my guess would be the tv and the RCA problem... correct me if im wrong. cheers!

Added on August 10, 2009, 10:11 pmorh... between, connecting using a S-video to RCA is better, or VGA to RCA is better?

set your desktop resolution to 640x480 or 320x480 if possible.

hi, i'm planning to use my old rig which has been dumped in store room for years as my htpc.. jus for the sake of playing wif old items

spec:
intel celeron 1.7ghz
asus s478 mobo
1gb ddr400
ati 9200LE GC
creative sound card
80GB pata hdd

1. is this pc capable to play rmvb movie? how bout 720p?
2. any software to tweak for having a smoother video play?
3. is that recommended to upgrade the proc to p4
4. how bout to 1.5gb of ram?
5. any problem for the gc to output to 42' plasma?
*
1. for mkv 720p mHD rip should be no problem.
2. no need to tweak as long as your pc is rock stable. u can try coreavc if you want. (i've test the difference between coreavc and mpc-hc own codec on an old pc but no improvement found)
3. use your old rig and try first. how much would you spend to upgrade to a p4?less than rm50?
4. imo, on xp, 1gb is enough for video playback.
5. no problem. just make sure that you set the scaling properly so that u don't have horizontaly stretched image.

hi guys,

i'm doing some sort of HTPC. but mostly is for gaming, the diference is i'm using projector to display it. which i call it myself HTPC.

well the question is, I seen blu ray dvd rom at lowyat pricelist. stated as Sony Bluray Drive (BDU-X10S)...
is this bd rom can play BD disc? mean, all the lossless thing.
i'm using HD65 that's native 720p.

arghh, dunno how to explain. the main thing is, can bluray rom play at full quality its should play? compare with the PS3, and standalone BD player?
*
the bdrom can read the disc. you also need a proper bd software player.

I'm thinking to spend like RM3-6k for all which includes HTPC, sound system, and hopefully a projector, is it possible?
*
6k confirm possible. RM3XXX for optoma hd65, spend about 1k on pc, and the rest for budget AVR and speakers.
