Add soundcard ? Which one compatible and comes with DTS / Dolby decoder ? Cheap one pls ... There's only one PCI-E slot, i tot wanna save it for GC for future gaming ...
Or change mobo ? Which mobo got chipset which support DTS / Dolby decoding ? Or get a mobo with dual PCI-E slots ?

just make sure you get a motherboard using intel G45 chipset.
ram size 2gb or 4gb and hdd size up to your budget.
for a nice lookng htpc, u may need to spend a lot for a casing.

Hi all, recently I shifted one of my older PC to act as a HTPC for my LCD TV.

Problem now is my PC has only 1 VGA out (onboard graphics card) and I would like to have 2 output instead, one to LCD TV another to LCD Monitor. Question now is, which graphic card is prefered? cheap and low power consumption.

ATI HD4350 at RM125 only.

it's very difficult to find htpc casing in lyp. cry.gif
the best with a budget of 300 is the xqbox 400 that niclasteoh used to sell. but no more stock. cry.gif

hi guise,

i just upgrade from WinXP MCE to WInVista MCE (home premium)

Is there any customizer for WinVista MCE?
I find the way they sort the tile very difficult to navigate (top to bottom, then left to right, dont feel natural for me)

Also the tile no wording so i only see thumbnail, now i have to go tile by tile to see the filename when i want to watch a video!
halp!

QUOTE(Matrix @ Mar 18 2009, 09:37 AM)
Wanna ask this for some time. Is there anyway to put a thumbnail figure in the video files (mkv) so that it appears as a nice icon instead of seemingly random video frame being displayed? I've downloaded one WMV and it has a nice thumbnail cover for it. Any software to do it?
*
try MCE video browser with Salami Movie Organizer. these 2 are the best combo for vista media center. i can view the movie library with big dvd/bd cover art or with title name. it also shows genre, director actors name (by grabbing info from imdb). best of all...freeware. i really have My Movies plugin cos its bloated and no animation in vmc.

is it this one??
http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/us/P...edia+Center.htm

does it work with win7 mce??
*
i'm not sure about Win7 support. But it's designed for Vista. I hope there'll be no problem in Win7 as it's almost the same, unless M$ decided to roll out a new remote. (this is what M$ do with every version of media center)

currently, my wmp11 plays mkv files nicely in fullscreen. but when i play it in vmc fullscreen, it jerks. when play in vmc window mode, it is smooth. the mkv files are only mHD as well as 300MB rip. even playing 1080p videos in wmp is fine. problem is only vmc fullscreen. blink.gif

i'm on E8400 3GHz, 2GB ram with 7300GT 128MB DDR3. codec is CoreAVC v1.9. ffdshow for subs and other video codecs (divx/xvid).

after google, someone fix that by adjusting (adding 20%) the video controls in nvidia control panel.
by i don't understand why the fix is in nv control panel. rclxub.gif

in matroska, i try to enable load vsfilter (i have vsfilter installed to for testing), but mkv doesn't call up the srt sub in vmc and wmp. in order for the mkv files to match with srt subtitle, i need to enable ffdshow raw video support and use ffdshow subtitle support. but doing that causes the jerkiness to start again. cry.gif
why?

@ Matrix
you should go to "Pictures + videos > Video Browser." NOT "video library"

@ ahjames
this is one of the viewing types. othere are others that you can choose from.

here's a sample of how the interface looks like when you have entered "Video Browser"

This is how the next level of structure looks like. The info is shown after you've used the Salami tool to grab the info from IMDB.

But then, for those on budget, Sri Comp used to sell a simple MCE keyboard, with the same joystick and a big green button for RM130

how does it looks like? where's the location of the kb?

A simple keyboard without the numpad, with the joystick, and a big round green button, like the Genius keyboard without those multimedia buttons.
Instead the multimedia buttons are placed above F1 F2..... buttons
*
i mean where they keep the keyboard in the shop sweat.gif
i always scout around sricomp, the area where they sells mouse/keyboard/accessories (opposite the pci/usb/card reader area), hoping to look for cheap mce remote or keyboard but never find any.

Purchase a HTPC today and have been running the whole night.

Spec as below;

MB: Asus P5KPL-AM
RAM: 2x Kingston DDR2-800 2GB
HDD: WD 1TB ST
Proc: E5300
Cooler Master Elite 334 with extreme power supply
SC: Maya 7.1
GC: To be added later

I noticed the E5300 processor's fan producing an annoying noise, somehow I felt it is louder than my previous P4. Has someone experienced this as well? I thought it should be quiet... Is Core 2 Duo and Dual Core having the same level of noise?

Anything could be done to reduce the noise? Find it rather annoying when watching movie / surfing with buzzing sound.
*
it's normal for the stock intel cooler to be loud.

try to reuse my old rig as a htpc.
here's the spec:

AMD Sempron S754 2800+ @ 1.6GHz
512MB x2 DDR400 RAM
Biostar S754 6100-M7 motherboard
Onboard NVIDIA 6100 graphics
PATA HDD, Combo Drive
Cooler Master 460W Exreme Power PSU

i've tested playing those microHD 2.5GB MKV movies using media player classic home cinema (using its own H264 codec). everything ran smoothly.

i've also tested those Bluray M2TS 1080p files....laggy.
so, i use CoreAVC to render, but still laggy (no difference from MPC-HC internal codec).

do u think getting an ATI HD4350 can smooth out the 1080p video playback?

Only if those video files u want to play benefit from dxva enabled, else a HD4350 won't help at all.

THat's also where CoreAVC comes handy smile.gif

with CoreAVC playing those M2TS 1080p HD files, my cpu load is still 100%. sigh.
