Tip: when you install APKs (sideload) or even from Play Store, READ THE PERMISSIONS.

Be extremely suspicious of apps that do one thing but need to access Services that Cost you Money or other permission that an app of its type should not have.

Eg, wallpapers have no need to read your accounts or phone status.
Root apps like Titanium backup need to access ALL phone functions but of course ensure your copy is legit. Non-legit stuff can slip in commands to p0wn you.

GN2 Knockoff for USD150:

http://www.phonearena.com/news/Samsung-GAL...the-box_id37722

....Yes, there is GPS and Wi-Fi on the device, which comes out of the box already rooted. You will soon be able to buy it online from a Chinese retailer for just $150, which makes it a cheaper alternative to customizing your more expensive Samsung GALAXY Note II, possibly turning it into an expensive brick. If you don't want to wait, you can pick up Star's slightly smaller 5.3 inch device by clicking on this link.

Yesterday I was at Pasar Road and saw A GN2 knockoff for RM299. S3 knockoff for RM199. Screen quality was rather crappy.

But hey, if it is the same model and does come with GPS and Bluetooth, can be used as a secondary phone for the kids...hehe

Yup,  rebooted, but the shuttle style still there.
I'm in Stock room 4.1.1. Latest Perseus kernel.
4.1.1 cannot turn off the shuttle sound in camera setting.
Any idea how?
*
FYI it's "shutter" not "shuttle"

It happens again. Battery charging stuck at 84% for 20min. Damm what is it really happening? Now I took out the battery and wait 5 min see what will happen. Is this a hardware issues or software issue? Anyone know?

Possible hardware problem. Send to SC.

I do that with mine all the time for all my phones ever since NiMH batteries were introduced. No problems after that many years.

Can't really understand the difference between this 2.
*
It's a widget, can display up to 5 parameters at a glance, and shows some eye candy graphs etc which I haven't bothered to dig into yet.

For BBS, need to clickety click. I do use both. BMW to have at a glance status, and BBS if I feel inclined to dig in.

To cover your arse from the exynos exploit, rooted devices can use this app in post #22
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread...=2048511&page=3

Direct link to app
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment...20&d=1355686057

Edit: Not rooted device will have to wait until supercurio post his app.
*
The "fix" is a bit of a workaround.....switch on, switch off.....
This needs a proper patch for the camera.

AFAIK it does not effect the camera on Note 2.

Another app this one by chainfire but also still for rooted device.

Edit: Scrap my comment above. Lose camera on chainfire app.  doh.gif

Hehe...RTFM...

"No need, here is a very quickly put together app in 5 mins that lets you toggle on/off world writability to /dev/exynos-mem

So you can toggle the fix off if you want to use the camera, then toggle it back on afterwards."

The root cause is allowing the camera r/w to that location in root folder...bad bad practice especially for linux/unix devs.

Pun intended.

I don't know if any remember or have experience, something similar existed in the Symbian S^3 versions where you could use an antivirus app to load the rooting app into the root folders. I guess sifu sklchan should be familiar. Just that nowadays security is a lot more high profile.

I just installed the supercurio voodoo 0.3, my camera is fine. Perhaps the GCF camero roms are ok.

Maybe the ZCF rom version cameras have the glitch....oh my....persistent glitch.....

I meant the camera firmware. Remember the GCF and ZCF camera firmwares, and ZCF kept giving trouble with some kernels?

I'm on Omega v4 (oh so ancient) but my camera fw is GCF.

Do that camera fw code check and see if it is ZCF causing the problem.

To add to the paranoia hehe:

http://mobile.slashdot.org/story/12/12/16/...utm_medium=feed

Comment by by grcumb (781340) on Sunday December 16, @07:56PM (#42309721)

The most damning bit of code is this:

#ifdef CONFIG_EXYNOS_MEM [14] = {"exynos-mem", S_IRUSR | S_IWUSR | S_IRGRP | S_IWGRP | S_IROTH | S_IWOTH, &exynos_mem_fops}, #endif

Basically, it says, "Aw heck, write whatever you like to any memory address anywhere. I mean, we're all friends here. Right?"

Effectively, any installed app can ignore pretty much every single security setting on the phone and do whatever it likes to the running system. Worse, this could be coupled with a vulnerability in an otherwise well-intentioned app to create a remote root exploit.

*
Well, that should be the case, perhaps in fact steal all credential info from the phone including your gmail account name etc and read any shit on the phone. Like the good old days of the DOS command attrib -h -s -r

So solution: use nokia 3310 and airplane mode your GN2 when you play games hahahaha

Yes done using voodoo 0.3. Does your camera have a problem? Yours is the ZCF fw camera rite.

It occurs to me, all these extended warranty programs...
I would think after 18 months, Samsung would stop production, and perhaps keep parts for maybe another 12 months.

If you have a problem at that time, and Harvey/Senheng says they warranty it, how will they honor? Is there a clause that allows them to swap a unit for you AT MARKET PRICE OF THAT TIME (ie RM300 max?)or give you a new phone of EQUIVALENT PURCHASE PRICE (ie RM2299)?

I know in insurance they give you back some credit or cash of the then-market value, which basically sucks.... Anyone in the know of the fine print of extended warranties?
