huawe e398 less heat than the others??  hmm.gif

In honest, LTE chip is a lot hotter than DC-HSPA+ chip.

But E398 implements a good heat dissipation solution. nod.gif

You make the conclusion smile.gif

OpenWRT seem more stable in the short run, performance wise, less issue .

Yes, but unless you using a solid OpenWRT build it may crashes in the long run.

Since no one there to reset the whole setup if anything happen. smile.gif

I've posted this before but nobody seems to take note. The following scheduled task can allow OpenWRT for long run without someone manual reset it:
0 * * * * /bin/ping -c 10 58.71.132.10 || reboot

Basically what this command does is that every hour it will ping the IP address (Maxis DNS in this example) 10 times. If all timed out, it will reboot the router. I prefer this setup over pinging one IP address all the time. whistling.gif

Personally, I'd avoid pinging one IP address all the time especially to a popular server like Google's DNS. Most modern servers nowadays will start to block your packets to their server if they suspect it to be a DDOS attack of some sort. As long as you don't cross over their threshold limit, you'll be good. But not all servers have the same threshold, I'd prefer to avoid doing that completely. icon_rolleyes.gif

LYN using very simple time-based DDOS filter sweat.gif

IMO, the proper way to detect DDOS is analysing what type of packets are being sent periodically. You can't bring down a server if ping every 1 minute doh.gif

All modern routers with firewall feature turned on usually already have a basic protection for DDOS attack. One example would be the SPI Firewall protection. See here for more information:

For me, I'd usually choose the DNS server of my provider as these can be considered as the closest hop before you go out to the internet. Most of us won't be using them to resolve our URLs as we either use OpenDNS or Google DNS or other paid/more reliable DNS servers. Any failure connection to this address will usually tells you that your connection is not working. Well, unless your ISP's DNS server is always down then you've to find another closest hop's IP address. sweat.gif
