hi guys whats the thing called for putting hdd inside it to replace odd?
caddy is it?
where can i buy it?
just simply put hdd inside it and then will it fit into y500 ultrabay?
*
The standard caddy bay for HDD might not fit Y500 due to special design on its ports/shape/thickness. laugh.gif
Even Y500 & Y400 ultrabay are not interchangable due to its designs.

There are special design ultrabay for Y500 and Y400 from Lenovo, but not yet available in local market.
Optional hotswappable ultrabay are for cooling fans, HDD, dvdrom, GC(gt650m) as pic:

Any y480 user here? gonna buy y480 with gt650m soon, hows the cooling? performance? and if im not mistaken the new y480 only comes with the orange line at the lcd right?
*
Local set Y480 already phased out already and replaced by Y400 with better designs. Most of the Y480 available in the market are grey imported set (AP set). You might get a refurbished set or end up with major warranty claims problem. Its best to avoid and go for local set Y400. nod.gif

Yeah but y400 kinda expensive and the spec same like y480, besides, I'm on budget now. Y480 the least that I can get.  smile.gif heard about some of my friends have the same laptop and he got no problem at all
*
Buying laptop is not like buying vegetable. We need to look at price/performance and also good service/warranty support. What happens if we are unlucky to get a refurbished set or bad apple for cheaper imported set and local Lenovo reject your warranty as reported in http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2647407. sweat.gif

Dont get carry away by the good offers on cheaper imported set (AP set) drool.gif rclxm9.gif
and overlook the important of good service & warranty support before we cry.gif mad.gif

Spend a bit extra for local set Y400 and you get better designs, cooling and optional swappable ultrabay. thumbup.gif
You can check the Y400 pricing in garage sales & nego for it. nod.gif

yeah ill think about that, could be worth it though to buy y400. So you have y400? hows the gaming performance? can run ultra setting? and the hightest FPS that you can reach
*
Y400 & Y480 have similar spec/performance but different designs. nod.gif
Y400 has the options to add extra ultrabay gt650m/170w psu for sli when you need extra horsepower later. brows.gif

Hi all sifu,

Actually I'm in delima to choose between Y500 and Y580.

I'm gonna use the laptop primary for work assignments ie. 3Ds Max, heavy photoshop, sketchup, autocad n 3d rendering.

So,  i want to ask which one is worth to buy. I know both of the model is awesome n both of the models are within my budget.

Thanks in advance.
*
Y500 with SLI only results performance boost in gaming and not with your above work assignment. laugh.gif

Get the cheaper Y580@2999 with longer battery life and better single gpu will help to speed up your work assignment. Use the remaining money for SSD to speed up system response, get a u3 cooler and upgrade to 3 yrs on-site warranty. biggrin.gif

will Y580 with optimus benefit the laptop in long run(wear & tear) compare to y500(GPU on all time)?
torn between y580 & y500.

anyway my laptop at home plug-in all the time. and connect to 22" monitor.
objective to have a long lasting laptop hehe.
*
If you use at home, you are better of with desktop which are much cheaper, more powerfull, customizable, better cooling and longer lifespan. biggrin.gif

Really? Hmmm. But I'm so attracted with Y500 SLI. Hahaha
I heard Y580 is already EOL? Is it true?
*
Y500 SLI are meant for budget hardcore gamer. laugh.gif
You can ask for second opinion in the recommendation thread or pm our sifu [PF] T.J. and nexus2238 for advice.
http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2656652/+700
Local set Y580 have limited stock in the market due to overwhelming demand, they are restocking it according to Lenovo facebook. They might replace Y580 with cheaper variant of Y500 like Y400 replaced Y480.
Beware and avoid those grey imported set(AP set) with potential issues.

Y500 vs Y580
3799 vs RM2999
gt650m sli vs gtx660m
Y500 with better build/design/cooling and swappable ultrabay.
Y580 with optimus and longer battery life

If you are hardcore gamer, get Y500. Else get cheaper Y580 and use the remaining money for SSD, u3 cooler and upgrade the warranty to 3 yrs on-site warranty.

So, yours choice. icon_rolleyes.gif

Icic, well wont be getting this model.

So how to check if local unit? read the guide in post#1:
http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2491914

And since the y500 that comes with 2nd GPU has taken up the SLI slot, there's nothing much else can do with it right? You can also add in optional Lenovo ultrabay HDD, fans or ODD/ bluray.

So performance-wise how much better is y500 with dual GPU compared to y580? And also any sticky issues found in both models? You can check out more gaming benchmarks for Y500 with gt650m SLI in notebookcheck.  brows.gif
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Lenovo...ok.87585.0.html

Safe to say that I wont be doing anything with the SLI anymore since there's dual GPU, so final verdict Y580 or Y500?
If you are hardcore gamer, get Y500 with dual gpus/better cooling/designs. Else get Y580 with gtx660m with longer battery life. Its all boil down to your gaming needs.  laugh.gif
Fyi, Y500 come with both 120w & 170w psu. You can carry 120w psu when you need mobility and swap in ultrabay gpu & 170w psu when you need the extra gaming boost at home.  laugh.gif
Yours choice.

Hi guys, I read many comment regarding failure of using 2 GPUs if play game? Is it true? Then what is the point of having 2 GPUs? If cannot play game with 2 GPUs I better go for Y580 sweat.gif Not being biased or what, just to make sure im making the right choice nod.gif

You can refer to more details gaming performance review in notebookcheck. The sli gaming support is quite impressive according to notebookcheck. brows.gif

Local set Y480/Y580 already replaced by Y400/Y500. biggrin.gif
If you happen to see Y480/Y580 in the market, most probably is the grey imported set from US (AP set) which might end up with warranty issues.

guys i have a question!
for some reasons i can not go to shop and see the laptops myself.
so i gonna order the laptop. i wanna choose between Z400 core i7 touch and Y400 core i7.
i just find out Z400 have core i7 3632QM which has 35TDP while y400 has 3630QM which got 45 TDP.
any suggestion? regarding the look, keyboard, screen quality and heat?
*
If you are gamer, wait and grab the upcoming Y500/Y400 +GT750m(GDDR5) which have better performance above GTX660m (ie Y580), much better cooling system, poisoness red backlit, optional swappable ultrabay, removable battery, slot for mSATA SSD and easier self upgrade of HDD, SSD, ram and dust cleaning compare to new Z400/GT740m. biggrin.gif

Y400/i7/gt750m is best bang for the buck compare to Z400/i7/gt740m iff around the same price point. brows.gif

Look and keyboard is more on personal preference, best is to test and check it out the display unit at shop. Screen quality should be about the same. nod.gif

My keyboard is warm but not hot. Is it over heat?

Its normal for gaming laptop to get the warm keyboard since cpu/gpu is below it. Higher specs laptop have better performance and generate more heat as usual. Its not overheat as overheating will results laptop shutdown. biggrin.gif
