We are more grounded towards our british roots.the armoured corps only has tanks and recce vehicles, mech is under infantry branch.

KAD je letak mech dan tanks bawah satu administration

we don't have the manpower like you guys to organise units into divisions

what about all the shorties?the army is missing the biggest recruiting markets.the small and the idiots

I don't see a reason for such stringent minimum height requirement except for availability of clothing

EC-725 Akan Ditempatkan di Kuantan dan Sabah

Perolehan pesawat

Extended Endurance Could Get C295AEW Back on the Indonesian Radar

Posted by Tamir Eshel

Airbus Military has begun flight-testing a modification to add winglets to the C295 medium transport and surveillance aircraft – one of a series of product developments underway on the market-leading type.

By increasing the lift-drag ratio the winglets are expected to improve performance in the takeoff, climb and cruise phases of the flight. For the C295 these extensions would contribute to hot and high runway performance, increased range and endurance, and reduced fuel consumption – driving lower operating costs.

The first flight of the wingletted Airborne Early Warning (AEW) configured aircraft took place in Spain on 21 December. Data from the flight test program will help evaluate the potential benefit and feasibility to incorporate winglets into the C295 design.

Extending the mission endurance of this aircraft is considered a critical requirement for Airbus Military, in order to meet the Indonesian Air Force requirement for Airborne Early Warning aircraft. Indonesia is already shopping for such aircraft, and, according to Air Force Chief of Staff ACM Imam Sufaat, larger platforms would be required for the country’s AEW mission, particularly in terms of endurance. It is expected that the improvements gained by those winglets would be sufficient to get the C295 into the game. The Indonesian market is considered a strategic market for the aircraft. In early 2012 Indonesia placed an order for nine C295 aircraft, the first delivered by the end of last year. Airbus Military is also helping its local partner PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PT DI) to modernize its manufacturing facilities to enable local assembly of these planes.

Few months earlier Airbus Military and missile developer MBDA performed flight demonstration of an armed C295 maritime patrol aircraft, carrying an instrumented Marte MK2/S anti-ship inert missile installed under the left wing. The flight was the first of a series of trials planned in a joint Airbus Military – MBDA collaboration to validate the aerodynamic integration of Marte on the C295. Subsequent flights will include handling qualities tests and aircraft flight performance tests. The C295 will be the first fixed-wing aircraft configuration for the missile. Marte Mk2/S is already integrated on the AW-101 and the NFH-90 naval helicopters.

The MBDA Marte MK2/S missile is a fire-and-forget, all-weather, medium-range sea-skimming anti-ship weapon system, equipped with inertial mid-course guidance and radar homing terminal guidance, and capable of destroying small vessels and heavily damaging major vessels. The missile has a weight of 310 Kg and is 3.85 m long. In the anti-submarine warfare (ASW) role, the C295 is already in-service carrying the MK46 torpedo.

New tanks due in May

Published: 5/01/2013 at 12:00 AM

Ukraine will deliver its first batch of T-84 Oplot main battle tanks to the army in May, army chief Prayuth Chan-ocha said yesterday.

Under the staggered delivery schedule, five of the tanks will be delivered in May, with another 50 tanks due by the end of 2015, he said. The army has ordered a total of 200 of the tanks.

During recent talks with the Ukraine government, Gen Prayuth said he had requested a speedier delivery of the battle tanks.

The first round of five tanks will be used for training purposes, he said.

Gen Prayuth said he had inspected an Oplot tank during a recent trip to Ukraine and believed the army was getting good value for money in terms of firepower and combat capabilities.

Most of the army's current armoured vehicles were purchased from Western countries, where prices were comparatively high, he said.

The procurement drew criticism from soldiers when the deal was announced in 2011. The Oplot tanks are equipped with an auto-loader that requires the tanks to stop moving when ammunition has been used up and new loading is necessary.

An army source told the Bangkok Post in 2011 that in a combat situation, tank crews generally prefer the relilability of a manual ammunition-loading system.

C295 AEW used israel system, so no hope goverment will buy it.
Hopefully RMAF consider Saab2000 Erieye AEW&C too, please dont buy Saab340 AEW, price just 40% more, but get double performance

Saab2000 AEW&C
- detect range 450km
- range more than 3600km
- cruise speed 600km
- endurance 9.5 hour
- price only 160/170million

Saab340 AEW
- detect range 250km
- range around 2000km
- cruise speed 450km (too slow, hard follow jet fighter)
- endurance 4~6 hour
- price around 120million

Contract for 126 Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft Rafale
A year on, deal with Dasault not in sight
By KV Prasad | Tribune News Service | 5 January 2013 Saturday

Contrary to expectations of an early push towards finalising the contract for the 126 Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA) for the Indian Air Force, the deal will not be signed before the current financial year comes to an end in March this year.

The IAF is keen that the negotiations are concluded and the way is paved to finalise the multi-billion dollar deal with the French manufacturer Dasault Aviation for its Rafale ominrole fighter plane.

Sources in the Ministry of Defence told The Tribune that there was no possibility that the contract can be signed in the current financial year. While the negotiations started after Dassault was declared the lowest bidder in January 2012, indications are that the discussions between the Contract Negotiation Committee and the French company is far from over.

Dassault Aviation Chief Executive Officer Charles Edelstenne, scheduled to demit office next week, told a French Parliamentary panel last month that while there was “relative optimism” over the progress of talks. He acknowledged the negotiations were tough. “We are deep in talks at the moment. It’s a complicated country, the negotiations are tough, but there is a desire to wrap up on both sides,” Edelstenne told the panel.

The contract envisages that of the 126 aircraft, 18 will be in fly-away condition while the rest will be license produced by the public sector Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) that will do the final assembly. Reports indicate that among the points of discussion was a suggestion by the French manufacturer that it be allowed decide on the quantum of work to be done by the HAL and private enterprise in India, to cater to the 50 per cent offset clause in the deal.

However, last week a news agency reported that the Ministry of Defence insisted that the HAL remain the lead integrator since any deviation in the tender floated in 2007 would require it be taken back to the Defence Acquisition Council for approval.

In the meantime, the Defence Ministry received a jolt in the form of Rs 10,000 crore cut from the Rs.79,578 crore capital expenditure in the 2012-13 annual budget, putting a question mark on many acquisitions that the three services — Army, Navy and IAF — were planning. The Ministry of Finance intimated the Defence Ministry of the budget cut which comes at a time when the tri-services were seeking to accelerate modernisation programme.

Depending on the progress of negotiations and sorting out issues including re-evaluating the controversy on the process leading to the declaration of the lowest bidder, the government will be left with a narrow window to sign the deal before preparations for the 2014 General Election set-in.
