I have spoken to a Captain in Sarawak ranger about this. Yes anything is possible in firefight. I have see soldier loose his finger when jumping out from a truck just because his wedding ring stuck at the truck when he jump out.

Anything is possible, but the probability of it happens is very, very low.
Like car accident happens everyday, but that didn't stop me from driving, ya?

And you calling that guy stupid and experienced in doing his job in that filthy swamp is very demeaning,
that's low bro..

Please have some respect for our guys doing their job over there.

I'll just stay silent and vote for Super Hornet in this matter though I prefer Rafale over the others.

Make no mistake when you are in a firefight. You will come back in body bag. That is why you need to know your equipment in and out.

PLA Navy amphibious task force reaches Malaysia 'to defend South China sea'

A fully equipped PLA amphibious task force has reached China's southernmost claimed possession in the South China Sea in an unprecedented show of force that is raising eyebrows across the region.

The four-ship flotilla headed by the landing ship Jinggangshan visited James Shoal - some 80 kilometres from Malaysia, less than 200 kilometres from Brunei and 1,800 kilometres from the mainland coast - close to the outer limits of China's "nine-dash line", by which it lays claim to virtually the entire South China Sea.

Why they tape it ? Because the pin can come out easily.

Personally, i'd be shyte scared of lugging grenades or any form of explosives from firecrackers and on up in a combat zone where an accident or a bullet might make me into a unintentional suicide bomber.

Read on. I am pointing out the mistake so that you guys will not come back in body bags.

From your forum reference

QUOTE
Taping 'nades' was always a personal thing. Some guys would do it and some wouldn't.
I never saw guys taping the spoon though.

QUOTE
I carried two hand grenades, and 16 M203 rounds (of which 8 where HE/AT,the rest CS)
and in all honesty, it was weird the first few days, but then you get used to it.
The scary thing, is seeing all the dents on the older hand grenades you get issued.

So they guys that didn't tape it is stupid and inexperienced, thats like most of them then?
I'm sure you have handled one, did you? lobbed the grenade and passed the course with flying colors of course.

QUOTE
Last year a Soldier lost his arm, and two other Soldiers in his squad suffered serious injuries, when he attempted to un-tape a grenade for turn-in. Every day a Soldier somewhere will tape the safety pin and lever of a freshly issued hand grenade. Sometimes he will tape the safety pin to keep it from clanging, or he will tape a grenade to his combat vest or he will tape it for no other reason than he was told to.

Larry Baker, a Forces Command explosives safety and range manager, says taping is not necessary.

"To the best of my knowledge there is no evidence in the history of the M67 hand grenade to suggest that it requires taping and there is no evidence that a Soldier needs to tape it because of inherent safety issues," he said.

Baker should know, he has nearly thirty years of experience in the ammunition business which started when he was drafted during Vietnam.

"In Vietnam we could not tape a grenade because tape just won't stick in the jungle. There is a perception which exists in the Army today that Soldiers need
to put tape on a hand grenade and that perception has become a reality. It is common place."

Baker says there is no real reason to tape a grenade. "We have grenade pouches for Soldiers now (for transporting them), so if the danger was the possibility of
getting snagged on something, or becoming entangled there is a solution."
