Someone wanna gimme a Nexus 4 I can try with my QE-TM101. Energizer confirmed working with Nexus 4, but the charger is wedge shape, and with the glass back of the Nexus 4, the phone tends to slip off the surface of the Energizer version.

Which is why I love my Panasonic QE-TM101. it's flat, and it has this antislip surface that prevents any slippage. But with the Lumia 920 that I have, when that 920 vibrates, it displaces the phone because of the curved back. One occasion it vibrated and displaced until it was 90 degrees off center when I originally put it and left it charging and return back later to check on it. No problem with the nearly flat DROID DNA.

The LG charger is noisy, everytime your phone loses 100% charge, it beeps loudly to indicate charging.

If I have a friend at Google I wouldn't want to share out that privilege either. Either my Google friend run away from having to cater to too many "friend purchase" or Google investigating why he's relinquishing a lot of units at staff price.

It's a PRIVILEGE not a RIGHT.

I like the apprehension towards LTE here. More empty nodes means faster LTE speeds for early adopters since they don't have to share them with the doubters.

Point is, we're moving forward, we dont wanna stay stagnant. Media consumption at higher rate and teleconferencing is one of the reason why I'm excited about LTE. Had a taste of LTE in the States and it's like when you moved to HDTV for the first time and asked to go back to square CRTs. I've tasted the future and being asked to live in the past.

You may not find a reason for it now, but once you've tasted it, all the previously unavailable opportunities opened up, because the shittier speeds you had before prevented you from doing it.

I'll be bringing out the Panasonic Wireless Qi charger today to meet with Doomsday and test with his Nexus 4. Just to confirm once and for all that it works without a hitch, unlike the Nokia wireless charger.

Also, will be bringing this back from the States on the 9th. A good friend ordered and shipped from Amazon, for his upcoming Nexus 4.

Energizer Wireless Qi Dual Inductive Charger.

He has graciously allowed me to try it first when I receive it in LA on the 4th.

we are not doubting the speeds of LTE, we are doubting our beloved telcos' speed of deploying it to cover relevant areas in malaysia.  i mean....if u r a Maxis user, u will no doubt be feeling that Maxis service is declining over the years, especially in their 3G services.  Sometimes in some areas that had 3g coverage will become not available for some time, and there are some areas that doesn't even have 3g but the neighbouring areas all have HSPA.  and don't even get me started on DIGI, it's services are declining since it launched it's 3g service.  because it can't accomodate it's growing users.  and it can't even cover basement car parks (that i can get full coverage with Celcom and Maxis).

With this kind of trend, I'm expecting LTE to be usable not until mid 2014 in the entire KL area, and end of 2014 for all other major cities.
*
So in your opinion, what should they do? Completely blanket everywhere with working 3G connection before they even think of deploying LTE? Then you'd get people complaining how they're lagging in adopting new technology and faster speeds.

The way I look at it, let them deploy LTE hand-in-hand with correcting the problems with current 3G speeds/coverage, so that LTE will be what 3G is to 2G/EDGE now: a secondary, fallback connection option. With that, good coverage areas will get LTE and shittier once gets AT LEAST 3G, instead of no connection at all.

I agree with grading entities by looking at their past historical performance, but you never move forward until you give them a chance. DiGi is fixing it by leapfrogging 3G to LTE, and I foreseen that as more problematic than Maxis or Celcom because if let say their LTE service breaks down, theire second-best connection is......EDGE? *vomit*

Look at it this way, with LTE out, your shittiest connection will sooner or later be , your current 3G connection. Isn't that a WIN?

the allocation of LTE supplied by telcos here in Malaysia is band 7.. which is 2600 Mhz frequency.. Its the same as Singapore but Singapore also utilize the 1800 MHz frequency as backup.. so far there is no official statement mentioning Malaysia utilizing other than the 2600 MHz spectrum band..

most phones including the iphone 5 and new ipad does not use the 2600 MHz spectrum band.. refer to (http://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/).. but note that the 1800 MHz frequncy band is supported with singapore telco..

the latest i heard is the only phone that supports 2600 MHz frequency band is the Nokia Lumia 920 but it requires another software update to enable the LTE capability in Malaysia.. So for now.. LTE in Malaysia does not really impact current LTE capable phones.. because most of LTE phones available now are for outside market..

it is sad though for iphone 5 and the new ipads users that the LTE capability on the devices are useless here in Malaysia unless Apple willing to spennd money on another iphone 5 variant or Malaysia follow singapore by allowing 1800 Mhz band to be used as spare band..
*
Asus Padfone 2 and Lumia 920. Correct on that software update, BUT you can already manually install the Portico update to enable LTE now on 920. Or wait for the OTA update on February which is less than a month from now.

Irregardless of that, the Nexus 4 has dormant Band 4 LTE compatibility, which is the 1700Mhz and 2100Mhz band, not the 2600Mhz band, used by Maxis LTE. So it cant use Maxis LTE anyway.

i'm not saying they should stop deploying LTE (read my previous post carefully), I estimated the LTE deployment rate only.

in my opinion, i think they should get their shxt together first before deploying another thing to burden their current services.  if they can't even cover at least 90% of all major cities with 3g, how r they going to move forward with their LTE?  it's like the government wants all of malaysia to adopt ADSL, but the current ADSL infrastructure sucks big time, so what's the point of more ppl adopting ADSL when most of us can't even get decent ADSL speeds?  to congest the network even more?

obviously u don't travel much, even if u travel, u r going to large cities, not small towns, so u can't comprehend what i meant.  do u know in Vietnam kampung area they already have fiber network and fast and stable 3g coverage?  y can they do that but here can't?  think about it.

now back on topic.
*
Let's not go there. I don't travel much? Really?

You cant stop technology, and you can't stop folks from asking the latest and greatest. The same complaints were given during the EDGE days when telcos are moving to 3G, and where do we stand on that now?

Asking telcos to "get their shit together before deploying LTE" means Malaysia will forever be stuck in the loop where the country will always be behind the adoption of new mobile comm. standards because telcos had to cater to covering the rural areas. Telcos build coverage based on profitability. Hence why you see better coverages and service on city area where the more profitable and affluent can pay for their cost of erecting towers and coverage antennas. The rate is slower in rural and kampung area because there's not a large market for profitability here, most of the folks here either go for the most cheapest rate they can have, because they seldom go online or their activities does not involve going online as often as the more tech-inclined city people. The towers and antennas will come, but it wont be as rapid as the city la. The telcos are running a business, not charity. They build antennas and towers but market margin low in the kampung and smaller towns compared to city, why should they be building them at a faster rate? The city folks gets the latest and greatest, while the telcos continue improving connections for those living rurally. WIN-WIN.

It's like me having to wait for other just because they're moving slow. Sorry, I dont move at other people's relaxed pace.

i thought LTE, H+, edge, gprs all depends on area...

if i go to an area with LTE and my phone support it, it will jump to LTE, if go ulu ulu place where only edge support, it will run on edge..

am i correct?
*
If your phone support it automatically. In modern smartphones like Lumia 920 and Nexus 4, these have to be activated, and you can even choose whether you want auto-switching like you mentioned, or exclusively using a particular broadband connections, like 3G only or LTE only. The problem is, if you choose exclusive bands only, once you're outside of the coverage of that band, you get "No Service". Hence why you see those who are picky with not wanting a "No Service", either switch their phones to auto-switch, or the more thriftier ones, choose EDGE only. No disconnection but shittier speeds. You win some you lose some.

Nexus 4 doesn't support Maxis LTE. Lumia 920 does with a software update manually now or OTA on February.

Met with Doomsday, very nice guy. Tested his Nexus 4, and I'm soooooooooo jealous he has Ingress already!

We then tested his Nexus 4 on my Panasonic Wireless Qi charger, and voila! Here's the video:

It charges all three, my Lumia 920, DROID DNA and his Nexus 4.

*wonders if I've poisoned Doomsday enough with regard to DROID DNA. The DNA is damn light isn't it? And that eye-melting 441PPI 1080p screen! *

DNA. 1080p screen and design stylings.

Also, the DNA is lighter than the Nexus 4. Doomsday was surprised himself when he picked my DNA up. biggrin.gif

It's a real phone ya, not a dummy phone. laugh.gif

We discussed the different Qi chargers available. Personally I feel that this Panasonic Qi charger works best across all Qi equipped phones.

I'm still jealous of your Ingress. cry.gif

I posted the battery life analysis at the DNA thread. Please refer there. In short, it lasts more than a day. maH rating is not everything. This was proven by many tech sites.

Btw, you two is pouring in poison!!!! *Poison shield on*

Droid DNA is both CDMA+GSM? Confused with its spec on gsmarena. It lists both cdma and gsm  hmm.gif

What is Ingress? Basically an augmented reality game from Google. Think of it as a real-life Command and Conquer, only using your smartphone and you moving around real location and "conquering the location". Closed beta now from Google, by invitation only. Doomsday got his in a month, I still need to wait another 3 weeks to get my invitation.

DROID DNA is LTE, CDMA and GSM. It's a world phone. I'm using it with Maxis.

Just received the news from Nexus Store/Hotpot. Not so favorable news.

Price now:

Availability:
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

In lieu to this, please adjust your intention whether to stay or choose other third party parallel importers. The price is very close enough the RM1750 mentioned previously that it may or may not be feasible to wait anymore.

I'm a little disappointed myself. I thought that at least the price would've stick to RM1599 and if they wanna delay it another week, then that may still be acceptable. Having to pay extra and have to wait another week more, may just simply hurt the interest for this phone. sad.gif

The Nexus 4 news is disappointing, I know. For the entity that holds all the cards, DiGi doesn't know how to play its cards right. They should've capitalised on the yearning frenzy from the potential customer who are waiting for this to release it in time, but God knows what they're thinking of right now, or what their planned profit margin on this. I doubt anyone wants to sign another DiGi line just to get this phone cheaper after looking at their current coverage and network performance now.

Your call, guys. Sigh......

I would think that if they price it at 1699 and still release it on the 7th, most people can and will still consider it. This double whammy of "more expensive, wait longer" is too disappointing to bear.
