My cousin bought one, and it is OK, I guess. The chipset is the MTK6577 CPU. The GPU is the Power SGX 531 GPU. The performance is OK, but Ninetology could still.improve it. The main problem is that the phone likes freeze, not all the time but it is annoying nonetheless. It feels rather smooth, but comparing the smoothness to the CSL Mi501, the CSL is quite smoother. The camera on the Black Pearl 2 is superb, and while it is not as great as the Samsung GS2 camera, it is half the price of the SGS2. Gaming is good, just like most dual core phones. The look and feel of the device is good too, but it feels kind of frail, like if you dropped it, it would go splat. Overall, it is a good phone, but there is a lot that Ninetology could improved on.
Verdict: 6/10 |

When compared to SGS S advance, I think they are about the same. But personally, I prefer the CSL Mi501 and Xperia Sola. They beat both, the BP 2 and the SGS S advance, and Mi501 has a large screen with dual sim. But that's just me. This post has been edited by Cranky guy: Nov 29 2012, 11:52 AM |

QUOTE(wkchia @ Nov 29 2012, 04:19 PM) Official retail price is RM799, but you can get it for 615 here.http://www.lelong.com.my/csl-mi501-mi-501-...3-10-Sale-P.htm Don't worry, the seller is secure. I've bought stuff from him before. Where do you stay? I could check all the stores around there for you. This post has been edited by Cranky guy: Nov 29 2012, 04:23 PM |

i own an xperia sola, and got a chance to test black pearl 2 recently.
first, the MT6577's processor actually perform better than STE U8500 according to antutu and quadrant. second, the PowerVR SGX531 is not as good as sola's Mali-400 GPU. (nenamark 2 score slightly lower than sola) third, RAM, BP2 actually have more RAM available to user compared to sola 4. kernel is newer than sola (3.0.13 for BP2, 3.0.8 for sola) 5. obviously screen is larger (4" vs 3.7") 6. BP2 have less ROM compared to sola (BP2: internal storage = 500MB, phone storage = 2GB; sola: internal storage = 2GB, phone storage = 4GB) 7. battery life should last longer than sola (1600mAh battery) funny thing is , the back of the case say 5MP but when u go into the camera app the max resolution is 8MP! and that's as much as i can remember for now. of course BP2 got dual sim sola only got one. if you can buy mi501, that's a better choice for one obvious reason = moar power. mi501 = the best android malaysia has to offer. Thanks for the reply. im not that familiar with the msm8225 but yes on paper mt6577 should be better, considering the cortex-A5 and cortex-A9 difference and also one is 45nm and the other is 40nm, and it's a common sense that smaller means more energy efficient, which leads to better battery life. How is the performance of the SoC compared to MSM8225 Dual Core Cortex A5? Thanks again. on real world though, not that much difference. apart from BP2 have USB-OTG function, i don't know mi501 got or not. issues, well there's hiccups here and there, which is normal because even my sola got hiccups here and there. ICS still don't have Project Butter unlike Jelly Bean which is much much smoother. No problem with Wi-Fi so far, and GPS is a little slow (compared to my sola again) but that's normal for a new phone. It'll lock faster after starting it up at the same place several times. The A-GPS function is redundant though, not recommended to turn on, or it'll just make things worse. I am anti Go Launcher kind of user, and i hate that BP2 comes preinstall Go Launcher with it. so i use back stock launcher, and it perform much much better. hmm... might want to test Zenonia 5 tonight, note to self overall, if 5.2" is too large, this 4" alternative is not that bad at all. I bought my sola for RM999 back then, and both perform almost the same. BP2 lacks some of the functions sola have (NFC, floating touch, Sony's own s/w, which I like) but performance wise it still can keep up. The camera was awesome too. not only still shot but also got panoramic shot and scrolling shot. even better it is an 8MP unit! This post has been edited by ralph_d: Dec 7 2012, 11:59 AM |

overall i still prefer sola's result, it's a sony so the quality is there.
as for the BP2, i take all the shot in medium settings (sharpness, hue, saturation, brightness, contrast). these cannot be change in sola's default camera app. the speed also significantly faster than sola. sola take 1-2 seconds to take focus (SCN Auto) but BP2's speed is just like what google claimed - zero shutter lag. quality wise still cannot match with sony. |

I have tested both phones, BP2 has better screen (ips) and higher ppi coz of smaller screen. Viewing angle better also.
mercury screen is not too bad also. But both are very smooth, much better than stealth 2. |

@issacc the big difference of course the chip inside, one is mediatek 1GHz dual core and the other one is by qualcomm 1.2GHz dual core.
camera BP2 default 5MP but the camera app can go as high as 8MP, where the mercury stuck at 5MP. Video recording BP2 can record 720p HD, not sure about the Mercury though, 480p only? Gaming mercury is better thanks to the extra 200MHz in the processor compared to BP2. BP2 also not bad for gaming, saw on ninetology sabah's video can play Dead Trigger and Beach Buggy Blitz smoothly. Screen BP2 is better than Mercury minus the size. high PPI and IPS display is it's strength. Viewing angle on mercury esp. on landscape mode is not that good (black color become reflective) @kucingfight you can ignore it. Ninetology claim that if you rip it off you'll void your warranty. Not much problem if you only have one sim card. |

Someone posted on the youtube comment that the BP2's GPS is slow. Anyone can verify this claim? I am interested in getting one unit soon.

Ninetology Black Pearl II Review
I got this phone for 5 days and i think a review would be appropriate to explain how this phone would perform based on my experience as a consumer. Body The design is quite sleek. One look at it would tell you that its a HTC but its not. It is quite heavy but not too heavy. Enough to tell you its presence in your pocket. The three touch sensitive button on the bottom (menu, home, back) is OK but there's some instances where it would not respond at all. Maybe i've been typing too fast. Overall, its a 3 stars. For the body. Hardware A dual-core 1Ghz does quite a good job. Not too much lag. I switched to the stock homescreen rather than using Go Launcher. Everything works fine. The only lag i suffer is from using FB. Thats all. It crashed twice. Tried modern warfare and it plays along just nice. I award the hardware 3 stars as well. Battery The nightmare. One time, i just let the phone rest on the table for a day and guess what? It loses about 70% of its juice doing nothing. 3G was off and no one have been using it. Maybe ghost? I dont know. I also used it for a day and yes. The juices are not long lasting enough. If you're a frequent or extreme user, consider getting a power bank or something. 2 star is enough la. GPS Super difficult to get signal. I have to get to the open field to get the signal. If you're on the moving vehicle, dont expect it to be accurate. Even the range in Foursquare is super large. Maybe its jus my area but thats my experience with BP2. 1 star for GPS. Sound Buzzing. Yes. Quite a lot. Played my music and it seems like i'm listening it to the radio. Calls are ok. Quite smooth and clear. 3 star for sound. Display Imagine Galaxy S II display. This is not the same. Only resolution and the size. Under direct sunlight, u will see nothing. Definitely nothing at all. No superAMOLED for this guy. But its quite responsive. Definitely a good job. Except under the sun where I couldn't even tell who's calling me. 3 stars. Camera It says 5mp. But its actually 8mp. The quality is not ok but acceptable. Focusing is dead slow. Tried to candid my cat sleeping upside down but focusing is too slow my cat is already awake! Damn. They should put a SIlentWavemotor inside the lens like Nikon lenses so it would focus faster. Just kidding. The shots are ok outside. But indoor, it failed too much even with the help of the flash. 2 stars. Price 599. So cheap. If samsung sells phones like S II or Note at a price like this, maybe everyone will have a smartphone. I give it 5 star! Hahahaha! Overall The phone had been good to me (not great). Enough to fulfill its duty of receiving calls, updating my status, tweets, watsapp and also a few games. I had Galaxy S II before but i ended up giving it to my mum. I couldn't compare it to the S II because i pity this little guy. It will lose. Thats my review on the new Ninetology Black Pearl II. QUOTE(kingrareglove @ Dec 27 2012, 08:52 AM) Ninetology Black Pearl II Review Thanks alot. It more or less deterred me from getting one though. The battery life and the GPS. if you are in between 21-30 years old, and monthly income less than 3k, and you want to buy BP2, hold your horses! Next year can buy at cheaper price.

QUOTE(Cranky guy @ Dec 29 2012, 11:13 PM) I seriously thought they were going to have phones like Mercury, Stealth 2, Galaxy S2, HTC One S, ZTE V970, Etc., but no, they give these already cheap phones that no one wants to use the rebate. Exactly. Can't wait for March next year to exercise my constitutional right. |

Yes. The latest ninetology insight. Made to cover the increasing demands of BP2. Saw it yesterday. Specs remain the same but a slightly bigger screen (4" vs 4.3"). Had a white body. Just the same thing as BP2.
The body is rectangular with rounded edges. Compared to BP2 almost circular (pebble) design, its much difficult to handle. Maybe its just me but ninetology made every phone with the same specs but different sizes. 4" 4.3" & 5". Maybe there will be 4.1" 4.2" 4.4" 4.5" up to 4.9" |

QUOTE(firefly3x @ Dec 30 2012, 04:31 PM) Last Wednesday I was at Lowyat and I did ask about this matter to one of the promoter. He said warranty WILL NOT be void if DIGI sim card is removed. Dunno how true is it. Ninetology has PUBLICLY announced that removing the DiGi sticker WILL VOID the warranty. Some seller willing to say anything you want to hear just so you buy. Basically it is win-win for them and DiGi. They have less thing to worry about warranty (as most user will remove the sticker) and DiGi get users for some months before any of the users have any gut to remove the sticker. See! It is a win-win for them. Not for us. This post has been edited by JJKTP: Dec 30 2012, 04:49 PM |

QUOTE(yweising @ Dec 30 2012, 04:48 PM) if not mistaken, the box oso sticked with digi sticker. i m just wonder whether this is another dual sim or single sim. if same spec with BP2, i think this will more attractive if its price discounted to around rm600 Even Stealth 2 sold at around RM650. So to buy this Insight at RM699 is just insane. Hell, even Huawei G600 is sold at just RM680. You just wait for the price of Insight to drop. It should be real soon. |

Well, I should be picking one up later this week. Keeping fingers crossed.
btw, had the chance to test one out at Sunway Pyramid last week. Not bad at all. Minimal lag, nice big and clear screen, clean ICS. More in depth review once I get mine. |

As an Android user I am always against the idea of getting low end Android devices with no support... because you are actually paying for the longevity of the phone when you buy med-high end Android phones as development for popular phones won't really stop.
My old Galaxy S is still receiving considerable amount of community support and it is running 4.2.1, the latest Jellybean. If you buy a low end Android phone, you probably won't even get JB. |

The rebate registration system on the dealers behalf is not yet operational, at least in Batu Pahat, Johore. I called a shop to confirm the BP2 stock availability, drove down to their shop to only learn that the system is not ready yet. The fastest they can get it ready is tomorrow. So no BP2 for me today

QUOTE(kingrareglove @ Dec 27 2012, 08:52 AM) Ninetology Black Pearl II Review Hi, how about your BP2 GPS signal just now after using it a few weeks?I got this phone for 5 days and i think a review would be appropriate to explain how this phone would perform based on my experience as a consumer. Can share with us? Thanks. |

meh the phone is a spare phone for 299. i can live with that. if it were 20-30 then it may be considered. NO more than 10% of phone cost.

QUOTE(yweising @ Jan 10 2013, 03:22 PM) i cant get the signal when i put the hp at my home's window, while compared to my nokia lumia 710 can easily found the signal in the same place in few seconds. I have HTC 7 Mozart, and it can get signal rather quickly, in just 1-2 seconds, even though I'm inside my house. Meanwhile, my ex-gf Samsung Galaxy Ace take it toooo long to connect. Can't wait to test the GPS on my BP2 once I have it this evening. |

My sis's Ideos X3 also got 2-3 ROMs out there Hmmmm... no luck then. U8150 is smaller, and less power with that sucky spec but how come it have all the attentions? The X5 also quite decent. But if you say low spec, see the Spice Mi300. Even more ROMs that your U8150.. |

FYI the rooting procedure few pages back WORKS. But you must install the drivers http://www.androidgadgematic.com/2012/09/e...db-drivers.html
Don't need to download the 300+MB SDK kit for the driver. Rooted it in 2 minutes yesterday. When it tells you to click restore on your phone, turn the screen on and you'll see "Restore settings" or something, click that. Then only will the program continue running. |

Some apps need root to run like Titanium Backup. Used it to delete the Mwarranty which was bugging me to register warranty on every restart after I hard reset the phone although the dealer already did the registration on the app itself.
Drainage is because the phone does not go into deep sleep at all, at least for my case. It is running at 1001mhz constantly according to CPUSPY. If it is not the apps I install causing this, it is the fault of the kernel, and without software update from Ninetology or custom rom, we may be screwed. |

this afternoon while i "hunt" BP2 from shop to shop around Subang area, there's this 1 shop (actually a kiosk) in Carrefour Subang that tries to sell me a fake Note2. imagine this - he says its a brand new Note2. price 699. got samsung logo summore. so i quickly go to setting and tried to press few times on version. nothing happens lol. and this "Note2" only got 4" screen i only can imagine if someone who dont know anything about android phone fall for this. kesian wooo. |

Press and hold the power and the volume down buttons. In seconds, the screen will flash and the image will be stored in the photo gallery.

QUOTE(MaGNiFiCo @ Jan 10 2013, 11:18 PM) so how was it so far ericmaxman ? Okay, initial impressions of this phone is not bad at all maybe you can put the steps on how to root. we'll try to contact TS to update it at first page The weight of the phone is on the light side, but coupled with the smooth back, it can be a bit slippery at times, as well as attracting lots of finger prints. Now on to the screen. Compared to my Ideos X5, this one has a less pixel density (246 vs 233 ppi), but makes up by having a much better display technology (IPS). Viewing angles and colors are indeed top notch. The screen has a screen protector preapplied, so you dont have to find one. Also, the screen protector does attract fingerprints again On to the software part. As you all know, the BP2 comes with Android 4.0, more specifically, 4.0.4. Ninetology has added some subtle changes that I really appreciate. One of them would be the top toggle buttons. Not all stock ROMs has those toggle buttons, and seeing those here is a good welcome. Then there's the audio profiles. Those who has used non-smartphones in the past would sure know the pain when moving to Android. "Where's the silent mode, where's the outdoor mode...?" Yup, those are the questions we all asked (well I know I did) when moving to Android. But this feature makes a return on the BP2. Then after that, there's the Schedule Power On and Shutdown. This is a good feature, as a lot of folks leaves their phone charging/left on the whole night. And with this feature, you can have the phone shut down at a preset time, and power up at another preset time. Cool feature, I must say. General usage of the phone has been pleasing. Initially, I wasn't expecting too much from the MediaTek MT6577 chipset, but it does manage to provide smooth user interaction so far. I replaced the stock Go-Launcher with my favourite Nova Launcher, which is far more smoother and looks more stock-ish. I rooted my phone with this pack. Just download, unzip and run the Runme.bat file. Do make sure that USB Debugging has been enabled (Settings -> Developer Options -> USB Debugging). After that, just connect your phone via the USB cable to your comp, and run the file. Follow the on screen instructions (Select Normal), then when asked to restore your phone, just select to Restore. Then your phone will reboot. Once it has rebooted, you'll find SuperSU in app drawer. You can install Root Explorer to start digging into your phone (I wont be held responsible for any misfortune that happens to you). Here's some tips once you've gotten your phone. If you have rooted yours, you can proceed by deleting the Go-Launcher related widgets and apps, QQ browser, QQ Doctor (antivirus). Also, I've checked from CPU Master, the scaling is "hybrid", and from what I saw, it switches speeds from 1001mhz to 245mhz only. No scaling in between. Battery life has been decent so far too. Hope my short review helps you to get familiar with your new BP2. Also, ask away if you have any queries at all |

And onto some niggles I found while using the BP2.
Firstly, no volume wake! If you're used to custom ROMs or some earlier phones, volume wake is a very useful feature. I'll probably need to do some digging around to try to enable this. Then there's the Youtube app which allows up t HQ playback only. Not exactly a big issue, really. After that, you'll also realise that there's no light sensor, and the brightness setting is fixed. I have mine set at 20-30%, and it's still very much visible (thanks IPS!) I'll continue to update my findings with this phone as time goes by. |

For the volume wake mod..
1. Grab android.policy.jar. You must have knowledge of baksmali. Extract the classes.dex from it. 2. java –jar baksmali.jar –o dex classes.dex where dex is the name of the directory it will be decompiled to. 3. Locate KeyguardViewMediator.smali and open it in something like notepad++, or gedit. Never use notepad. 4. Locate and delete these two entries: 0x18 -> :sswitch_7 and 0x19 -> :sswitch_7. 5. Recompile the classes.dex and copy it back into android.policy.jar. You must have knowledge of smali. 6. java -Xmx512M -jar smali.jar dex -o classes.dex . 7. Push back to phone and reboot. This method requires a custom kernel with adb root access. 8. adb remount 9. adb push android.policy.jar /system/framework 10. adb reboot That's kinda complicated |

The wifi dosnt appear to be as strong as the one on my Huawei. Also, even with using MX Player, this phone still lags when playing 720p video clips. |

Just got my BP2 from Motorola Concept Store in Sunway Pyramid. Only have white color.
They also sell the back casing for RM30. Only two color of casing left, orange and blue. Now I'm charging it before rooting. |

QUOTE(yweising @ Jan 11 2013, 04:20 PM) dont get a dual sim hp if u dont really need 1. Even turned off one of the sim card cell signal for overnight also not helping. Battery level keep draining even during idling/sleep. android single sim 1 day 1 charge, dual sims 1 day 2 charge, is it nonsense? think deeply...b4 u regret Apps can't move to external SD card is also another problem. |

I believe someone said that their wifi will turn off during sleep. Make sure you turn on the wifi advanced setting and tick always on during sleep.

I can confirm that the phone is draining battery even when idling. Left for about 1 hour and it drain almost 25% of the battery.

QUOTE(FarCry3r @ Jan 12 2013, 01:18 PM) Thanks. Maybe I can try that too. Anyone noticed that most of the time, notification to FB/Whatsapp/LINE/etc doesn't popped up until you unlock the screen? That's friggin' annoying. r u using wifi? if yes, then the wifi advance setting>keep wifi on during sleep> always |

Is there anyone who has tried to install AES Detector or AES Location Detector on your BP2?
Which one is better and accurate? Must have internet connection or just simply on the GPS button? This post has been edited by gendagenda985: Jan 12 2013, 08:34 PM |

Most phone shop at Mines now got "Accept RM200 Rebate Here". But I do recommend these 2 shops as the salesperson was nice
Both HTC shop. 1st one located same level as TGV cinema, opposite the ticket counter. the 2nd shop is located at 4th floor. its on your most right when you come from escalator near the cinema entrance. be careful though. some shop wanna make extra rm100 profit so they try to sell it @ rm399, not rm299. just leave the shop if they sell @ rm399. |

QUOTE(ericmaxman @ Jan 11 2013, 07:49 AM) Okay, initial impressions of this phone is not bad at all It stopped at the stage *Daemon .... succesfully* something like that. did not ask me to restore. The weight of the phone is on the light side, but coupled with the smooth back, it can be a bit slippery at times, as well as attracting lots of finger prints.

QUOTE(CcL @ Jan 10 2013, 04:55 PM) FYI the rooting procedure few pages back WORKS. But you must install the drivers http://www.androidgadgematic.com/2012/09/e...db-drivers.html Figured out already.. hehe~ ^^ Don't need to download the 300+MB SDK kit for the driver. Rooted it in 2 minutes yesterday. When it tells you to click restore on your phone, turn the screen on and you'll see "Restore settings" or something, click that. Then only will the program continue running. |

Hmmm I'm thinking of going to Glenmarie Service Center tomorrow, since I'm free. My BP2 already rooted, so do I have to unroot it 1st or no need to unroot eh?

Is there anyone who has tried to install AES Detector or AES Location Detector on your BP2?
Which one is better and accurate? Must have internet connection or just simply on the GPS button? |

Bought mine at Motorola Concept Store in Sunway Pyramid last saturday.
There is a notice on the shop stating 'PKB ada di sini'. Gave my confirmation slip and photostat I.C. and the RM299 of course. Quite good service from the seller actually. Hassle free. He told me still got stock. Anybody wanna buy can try there. Located at the highest floor beside the HTC store. Ok, about the phone. So far, everything o.k. Quite smooth actually. Connected to my unifi at home. Not much loading time for web browsing. The interface is lag free too. As i am using it as a second phone, with one 1 SIM active, connected to my house wifi, and moderate usage, the battery fully charge from 10a.m. will last just enough till 7-8p.m. So, yes the battery drain is quite bad. I bought a powerbank to overcome the battery drain issue, so i really satisfied with this phone especially considering the price. |
