There is no special skill. Just plug one end of the HDMI cable to TV and the other end to the HDMI port on the MHL adapter. Plug in usb micro usb cable to the usb port on MHL adapter and the other end to the desktop charger to charge it
I repeat it is simply plug n play
Probably the store guy did not use the right MHL adapter ( must be Galaxy S3 or Note 2 specific)

I always say is not fair to compare IOS ui smoothness with android OS. IOS had zero Widgets n ask why Apple do not wish to put it in ? Answer is obvious - it will make it less fluid n worse of all can be even worse than android. Apple do not have such capability of enabling Widgets on homescreen - definitely not. Another reason is apple principle of restricting 3rd party intervention in its pure proven ui interface. Allowing widgets could have a negative effect on them
Test yourself remove every widget n just put icons n see the tremendous ui smoothness improvement

That is Samsung built in feature. You cannot expect every 3rd party video player can be adapted into it
There is one I know supervideo player which simulates similar feature

Class 10 means it writes at 10mb/s vs 4 mb/s for class 4
It is currently highest speeds available
However several bad experience from various users on such high class cards - copy stuffs over in batches of say up to 5 gb one time. Big batch files copy one short easily corrupt the card

For performance get class 10
Why use a lower performance card for such a powerful phone. Some will say it doesn't matter. But you will appreciate it when writing stuffs to it n reading speeds also much higher than class 4
