Trade in 37 for a Preve

Mileage was just 56000km. No issues. In perfect condition. I don't travel much and therefore FC is not an issue. Even when I travel long distance, I always drive around 130 or 140kmh. Used to get about 18km/l so I guess not much difference with Preve at 12 to 14 km/l. Bigger car and definitely quieter than Insight. Better handling and confortable ride.

The good news is I wont lose RM50000 when I sell this car after 3 or 4 years so get back whatever I lose on the fuel.

Executive. Only RM57K.

12... I am confident. So far with just over 90km, the display is showing 9.1km/l. That's with many short stops and below 60 to 70. I am light footed. let me cross the first 1000km first.

I think we should look at the bigger picture. FC is important for us because of money saved for fuel usage. Whether environment friendly or not is secondary question as I I need to count every sen for the future.

My average usage is not more than 15000km per year. Insight will give me 17km/l (worst case scenario). So roughly I would have used about 4412 litres for five years. Fuel at RM3 x 4412 = RM13236. Insight Price was RM94000 (after discount). After five years, I expect to get Rm30000 ( trade in value). So total cost for owning insight will be around RM77236.


Now for Preve.

Price is RM57000. After 5 years, worst case resale value should be around RM20000. Fuel at 8km/l will be around RM28125. Total cost of owning Preve for 5 years (with 5 year warranty) is about RM65125. So I save about RM12000. That's a good amount for a downpayment of another new Proton.

Compared to the number of issues mentioned by the relatively small number of Insights I think Preve is not too bad. I still got a old Wira and still in great shape. Tell me which car got no problem. None of the protons we owned ever stalled on the road. The early batch had an alarm issue. The others none as far as I can recall.

Used to own a Toyota Cressida, had adiatributor crack. A Mercedez 250D for no reason overheated. iNsight, water came through the front windscreen.

End of the day, unless you see the car get stalled frequently it is worth the cheap 57 K we pay.
