I just received my HiMedia Q5II box. When I turn it on, all i see the the words "HiMedia". I'm unable to load the menu.
So I tried updating the firmware via the reset button. I downloaded the firmware from: http://dl.himedia-tech.cn/3718/EN/1023/upd...lcore_Q5_en.zip. I followed the instructions on how to flash the device, the android robot shows up but is quickly replaced with a red box on the android robot (I guess showing failure in flashing). Any ideas on how to fix this? Perhaps I have the wrong image, can somebody pm me an image of the firmware?
Thanks in advance!
If it helps: I'm in the US region. I can also PM you my S/N, MAC addr.
Well noted, but I think need to root device in order to change proxy. Am not so sure if there is any alternative to it
Thanks
Pls use the native Android proxy setting, no rooting required. Goto to wifi setting then advance option to add proxy.
If you use third party proxy app such as proxydroid then you need to root the device. Similarly, it is applicable to VPN. The native Android is capable to do proxy and VPN.
Hi Nicety, When we use the App Backup program to back up the apps before updating, its saving to the internal storage - will that be erased when we update the rom, and how do save to sd card instead?
Thanks! EngKiat
Hello Eng Kiat, just start the ES Explorer, click and hold the backup folder until you see the menu More-> CopyTo. Then select the external storage path to copy. Typically the technical path of external storage is /mnt/sda/sda1 or /mnt/sdb/sdb1.
In case you lost all the APK files, no worry you access to my skydrive, just download again from my skydrive.

I presumed you bought the China version, you need the China version firmware or rename the English firmware without the _en.

If possible, pls PM me the serial number.
Hi Nicety,
I tried renaming the the file without the _en (update_dualcore_Q5.zip), but it still doesn't work. Can you PM me a link for the Chinese version of the firmware?

Just want to thank Nicety for all his help! He PM'ed me a link to the firmware and it works. -- Kind of weird I got a red triangle a few times when I flashed it, but then it magically booted up. I'm not sure if I want to try my luck flashing anymore...
1) What is the latest firmware? What I currently have is: HMD-1.0.4 2013-12-06 194908 2) YouTube seems to be broken. I get audio, but just a black screen (I think the video is there, but it's just shifted all to the left, not sure). Am I the only one seeing this issue? 3) I think I have the China firmware installed as hitv is all in Chinese (the rest of the apps are in English however). Is there a way to change hitv to be in English without re-flashing the OS?
How do i use the HiMedia player for XBMC because the native player of XBMC is lagging when i play HD movies? Thanks
I have preinstall two files in your Q5II under the folder /sdcard/Android/data/org.xbmc.xbmc/files/.xbmc/userdata : playercorefactory.himedia playercorefactory.mxplayer
Just rename the file to playercorefactory.xml and restart. You can switch between the three player by rename the above files.
P/S: /sdcard/Android/data/org.xbmc.xbmc/files/.xbmc is hidden folder, just goto ES file explorer-> Setting -> uncheck hide system file. To rename the file, click and hold the file until you see "More" in the bottom menu then "Rename".

1). The official latest release is 1.0.4
2). YouTube app does not work already highlighted in my thread. Himedia promised to fix it in the next firmware version. For the time being pls use browser to open YouTube.
3). HiTV is developed in Chinese text, there is no setting to switch to English.
I read thru hola web site, actually hola is using encryption or VPN service to unblock , therefore it need root access.
You can find the rooting steps in this thread if you would like to try Hola. To be noted hola service is in US, it only unblock US region restricted apps such as Netflix. It will not unblock China region restricted apps such as Youku or Sohu.
If you purchase from me, the correct firmware is update_Q6C.zip. It is depend on which model you bought. Some ppl bought from Taobao then you might have to try and error. Do not worry about apply the wrong firmware because the hardware will check the file name before deploy.

Thank you bro, this is good question. I found the below video to enable the subtitle for XBMC. I have tested it works perfectly in Q5II.
Thanks to nicety for the quick despatch of my order, received today my q6ii and now learning to use it.
now if you may please guide me the setting up steps like firmware upgrade or installation of required apps for better watching experience.
err, how do i check the firmware, is it in the settings>device info>build no? if it's correct then mine is showing HMD-1.0.4 does it has any latest than this?
