Since the Sailfish OS will be able to run on Android phones, is there still a point to get a Jolla phone at 399Euros ?

I think Jolla made a mistake there by telling the world - "you can run the Sailfish on your androids, you don't need a Jolla phone for it."

Pretty much shot themselves in the foot? What do you think?

hmm.gif yes same like what i thinking, if sailfish can run in android, better waiting for it..most phone price 1k above can get quad core..

not only quad core, but better overall specs as well..i'm currently following Sony Z1c(compact) - if can run Sailfish on the Z1c - definitely no reason for a Jolla phone already. Plus, Jolla's Other-Half concept - whilst refreshing (something new), is also pretty darn pricey laugh.gif

Here's a very nice piece regarding Jolla at the recent MWC2014
This will be the year of Sailfish

TS, you may attach the article on the first page smile.gif

few things to note from the article to take note:
1) Jolla are hoping to be able to port Sailfish to Android phones
2) Already stated they will hit India & Hong Kong market this year, China's in the list too laugh.gif

Really made me remember why I didn't get iOS/android yet(still using n9), no need for dedicated home & back button and pure gesture control & multi-tasking wub.gif

am now thinking whether or not to get Jolla..but main turn off is no support(after sales service) in malaysia(yet) laugh.gif scared phone spoilt or need any hardware replacement, second would be the price..with our currency going down, quite pricey @€399 cause that's about rm1800-can get phones locally with warranty and with better specs. smile.gif

What do you folks think, wait it out until Jolla officially arrives on Malayan shores(or at least SEA), or forego it and use it's OS on android phone? wink.gif

Thinking about letting go of my Jolla... It's currently my secondary device - I put my Malaysian SIM into it when I travel, and my international SIM in it when I'm in KL. This typically means it sits around at home doing nothing 99% of the time tongue.gif

I'll be getting a new phone some time in the next couple of months - which means the Jolla will end up becoming a tertiary device (kind of like my N9 which is my digital clock).

20140926154830 - 4G connection with Maxis
20140926154949 - 4G speed test with Maxis (Ookla Speedtest in Alien Dalvik)
20140926155008 - Speed test results (including 1 via home WiFi)
IMG_1018 - Jolla device (top), The First One TOH (orange - exclusive to preorders), Custom Laser Etched TOH (white - default TOH)

did you use mitakuuluu(native whatsapp)? I just got my Jolla, updated the Sailfish OS and also downloaded mitakuuluu - but am having trouble getting the sms-code to register.
The error says; "No cell routes for sending sms caused by your operator. Please try other method [voice/sms]."

Initially I thought cannot receive sms,but that's not the issue (can receive and send sms from other people).

Did you encounter this issue? How did you fix it? smile.gif

FIXED & SOLUTION
1) Download (from Jolla Store) : Apptoide
2) Download (from Apptoide) : Whatsapp
3) Do the standard verification (SMS/call). [Encountered minor issue here, refer spoiler]
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

4) Open Mitakuuluu, it will automatically sync with your Whatsapp. (now you can use both!!)

Too bad Jolla's devices are not made available directly here in MY. If got then I would rather get their tablet compared to Nokia N1. Less pricier and still deliver the same performance powers.

Hey guys,

It's been awhile. First up, we're finally into Sailfish OS 2.0 (2.0.0.10 Saimaa) rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif
User Interface has changed a little (for the better of course smile.gif )

Will upload some screenshots when I have more time.

Right, I know this thread is pretty much dead and gone.. but still blush.gif

Note: I've recently dropped the phone screen facing down, bless the heavens no harm came to the physical appearance and functionality EXCEPT that the primary camera is not undetectable cry.gif
1. Camera App : still functions, but it's blank and the 'shoot/focus' button is faded (unable to function) BUT switch to the 2mp selfie cam on the front and it works fine
2. Whatsapp : automatically launches the 2mp selfie cam, no option to revert to primary cam (like it didn't exist doh.gif )
Any help to solve this issue would be much appreciated.

Thank you for reading wink.gif

Have been running Saaima for close to a month now, everything is running smoothly except for Whatsapp which needs updating 2-3 times a week.

As promised - some screenshots smile.gif

Attached Image
#1. OS update page
#2. Ambience page, accessible via settings
#3. I selected the "Silent" ambience, this page allows me to edit/pre-set the ambiences' volume and other added activity

Attached Image
#4. Speedtest
#5-6. Shortcut menu accessible by pulling down from the notifications/events page

.:. Due to the inconvenience of not being able to use the primary camera, will be changing phone soon.

Seems the seller didnt even shipped the tablet as he said he was using non-trackable package which is bullcrap for me. Waiting for 1 month then I ask for a refund. After currency exchange, I lost RM2. laugh.gif

Now to think of it, lucky I didnt get the tablet. No future update for the tablet is a waste. But I still have the Jolla Smartphone which is good enough. The spec cant coop with its OS, so im really looking forward for Turing Phone.
